Carter is trying to sell air conditioners to the desert dwellers. The air conditioners would be great, but there's no electricity grid to plug 'em into. The analogy is aimed at Carter's heart-warming wish for "justice and human rights for the Palestinians next door. " Aw, gosh, that sounds so down-to-earth grassroots golly gosh darn gee-whiz good, that it's just a given. Right? Wrong. The Palestinians do not have justice and human rights at the top of their list. In fact, they go out of their way to let the Carter's of the world know that they can't give themselves justice and human rights because of those awful occupying Israelis. The truth, however, is that the Palestinians are not interested in promoting human rights in their own society, and they are certainly not interested in a justice system that places the law above the clan, the family, Hamas or Fatah. Just like Carter swindles the public into thinking that Israel=ApartheidSouthAfrica, he's trying to sucker you into believing that Palestine=LiberalHumanist. Nothing could be farther from the truth.

I bought your book and could not believe what Palestinians are going through. I mean there I was finishing it and it suddently struck me...Put people in desperate situations and they will do desperate things! i finally understood why Arabs hate Israelis so much. I'm surprised not all Palestinians have become freedom fighters. I'll never see them as terrorists. They live in abject poverty and apartheid and all the AIPAC has to say is "it's their fault". Your book is eloquent, simply written, and solidly backed up.

Why is it that when someone makes a comment which is not 100% pro-Israeli, they are automatically accused of being anti-Jew? I don't agree with a lot of Jimmy Carter's views, however he does make some valid points. Especially his comment ""It's almost politically suicidal in the United States for a member of the Congress who wants to seek reelection to take any stand that might be interpreted as anti- policy of the conservative Israeli government, which is equated, as I've seen it myself, as anti-Semitism."

A person with something to hide will generally refuse to debate those who can easily prove them wrong. Carter knows this full well, which explains why he seems to be avoiding a debate at all costs.
