I do nor respect nor miss this overstuffed cabbage at all. He did enough damage to Israel and is time to forget about him. BTW is Omri in jail already?
2. Arik: yom khuledet sameakh -- you're still The King!
Michael Steiner   (02.27.07)
Dr. Sharon has dedicated his entire life to Israel: first as a valiant soldier, then as a shrewd politician. Most of all, he was man enough to admit he had been wrong about some things and it takes a lot of courage to do that, particularly for a politician. Furthermore, he took decisive steps to rectify his errors, which is why he deserves huge respect. He was astute and sensible enough to look years and decades, not days, ahead into the future, and this made him realize that Israel had NO future in the occupied territories. He had the vision and courage to do something about this and ensure that my generation does not end up with an Israel that is going to be unstable, isolated, under international sanctions and on a decline because of the stone around our neck in the form of the occupied territories. He took his few but very vocal opponents head-on and did what the silent majority wanted him to do. There is no leader anywhere on the Israeli political scene like him, let alone one who could fill his boots. We owe him a huge deal and history will show this unequivocally. Olmert got elected on the premiss "laderekh Sharon." Instead, he has become the Israeli John Major in terms of charisma, vision and resolve... ARIK MELEKH YISRAEL KHAI V'KAYAM!!
3. Re #2: Your affections are amazing
Steve ,   USA   (02.27.07)
B"H I understand you liking of Sharon and his moves. But I think some of them are miscast. I understand that he cleared Jews out of Gaza because he wished to distance the Jewish population from the Arab cities and he felt that there was no Jewish commitment to Gaza by the State versus the other territories. It was along the lines of Abraham and Lot parting. I understand his philosophy was that rather than negotiate areas that Israel is not certain on its full commitment now, it is best to withdraw from positions that Israel does not feel it will negotiate for and face these consequences sooner rather than later. I understand that there was some debate on whether Schmitah should be observed in Gaza and now that debate has been resolved with no Jews allowed there. Ever since Adam ate the Apple of the Tree of Good and Evil, it is true that with every measure of great evil there is some good and vice versa. I cannot fully understand the positive and negative aspects of Sharon's leadership. I can just see the Lebanon war and the rise of Hamas as the natural outcome of the witdrawal from Gaza which empowered that organization to devastate synagogues and emboldened the northern elements. That devastation saddens me. But the hearts of leaders are in the hands of G-d. I shall not curse this leader of the Jewish people at this time. I trust G-d has his purpose for this man as well as the current leadership which unfolds over decades, centuries, and mellenia. I see the devastation of many families, as well as the wellsprings of many others that benefited from the Sinai campaign, and I cry to know what this man did and did not accomplish during his political career. Some are tears of joy and ohters are tears of sadness. But in his honor, he would always say a positive word about those who could no longer be in power. May he not die but live for many more years to come.

6. What happended to Sharon
Boaz   (02.27.07)
Whoever messes with the land that G-D gave to the Jewish people, will have a similar fate. True he did a lot for Israel, but the blood of the disengagement is on his hands. Yes I wrote blood, because of him, terrorsists succeded, and boosted their efforts to kill our brothers.
7. To Arik
abe ,   manchester   (02.27.07)
To say that the state Arik is in right now, is a punishment for what he did, is wrong. Since we are not G-D, we do not know his workings. He is after all, a Jew, who did some bad things.

Gered   (02.27.07)
Your statement is an exaggeration, a simple product of arab propaganda. Sharon was controversial, but as a matter of fact was an elected leader elected by Israeli Arabs and Jews. Your statement therefore is is not different from saying that the people of Israel are the worse on earth. Conclusion: you are another one obsessed with the Jew.

22. Why should anyone hesitate to say...
Ben Temalion ,   Shiloh, MO USA   (02.27.07)
...Pikuach nefesh you acted against in your last of days that betrayed all the days before. The that protects you, the people that love the land you betrayed in your end of days. Now Ovadia abdualah yosef continues your plea to broker the land that belongs to all Jews past, present and future, he portends as you that there is a true peace through disavowing your covenant which you did if only against Likud's charter and referendum. You lied against pikuach nefesh as does abdualah yosef as he brought the thousands of wonds and death through ShasLo. The arelim are strong with unbound hearts who give support to making your defense smaller by paying the ransom to your extortionists who come to kill you. The betrayal of faith and corruption of morals is rife with what you have did and have left in your wake. To that which means the loss of land that protects all of you and the dreams created that cannot be created again by those long in years and attached to the land again, you betrayed all that is hope for a Jewish people who love the land. May you with bound herats find comfort soon and be as productive as possible in realizing eretz Yisroel Ha Shelama.
23. Arik Melekh Israel
shimon ,   madrid   (02.27.07)
yom khuledet sameah! You gave us strength and a vision...Israel without you is not the same. We miss you
24. Arik
Yisraeli   (02.27.07)
You who defended the Land of Israel, you who fought for our peoples survival, you who believed in Eretz Yisrael and hityashvut, you who encouraged mitnachalim to the hill tops, you who encouraged the building of many yishuvim in Eretz Yisrael, you who even had a residence in the arab quarter of the old city because you believed in our right to our land..........and then you who became our ultimate betrayer, you betrayed us, you betrayed Eretz Yisrael, you the first jew ever to expel fellow jews from their own land, homes and livlihood, you betrayed your party, you betrayed the majority vote against expulsion......and now the Land of Israel rejects you for a final resting place as you hover neither in life and neither in death. Your betrayel was so great that neither will have you, at least for now. May you live till 120 in your current state for your betrayel, in netherworld.
25. Disgusted at comments!!!!!
sabbageorge ,   Tel Aviv   (02.27.07)
How can you all write comment like that "overstuffed cabbage?" "rot" Often I look at the leaders of today and even at the time when I never agreed with Sharons policies, I Beleive the man madew history in the country! He will be loved for many for many years and is regarded as the grandfatther of Isreal! Those who hate him indeed hate their own people..that is a very strong word hate.and those who look at him like other negative leaders are just fool of envy!!! We love you Arik and wish you a speedy recovery!

Tarek ,   Damascus, Syria   (02.27.07)
it is not in our religion, nature or tradition to mock the diseased or sick ones. but i would like to say to #23, you are right, Israel wont be the same anymore, it wont be as violent and murderous as it used to be "however this Olmert shmuck doesnt represent the post-sharon era"
27. SHEM RESHAIM IRQAV! Who cares about the shrimp-eater and
HaDaR ,   Israel   (02.27.07)
SHEM RESHAIM IRQAV! Who cares about the shrimp-eater and DEPORTER of Jews? He already got his punishment: Hashem did not even allow him to do teshuvah for his HORRIBLE sin against Hashem and His People, and shut his mouth shortly after he said that he would re-do it.
28. arik melech israel chai v kayam
izzy d   (02.27.07)
Amazing how the Gaza disengagement managed to wipe clean arik's good deeds. like saving Israel twice from destruction. or perhaps for being a strong leader when there was no one else. perhaps we should forget the sacrifice the trauma the hardships that Sharon went through . these talk backs are from some of the most ungrateful human beings i know. when any of you can claim to be Israels savior but once, perhaps u have the minimal right to write what you want, until then respect those that are better then you will ever be. long live Arik
