marcel ,   florida   (03.09.07)
Could it be that Iran already has a nuclear weapon, gratis from N.Korea or the Ukraine. What about Russia's plans in rearming Syria and Iran. Is Russia pulling the strings behind Iran and Syria ? Of course.and Israel is the target..
4. I have proof those Maps&Plans are genuine!!
Alan ,   SA   (03.09.07)
They are signed with an X and two Thumb Prints- The Mossad told me that: The X is Amajinebad's signature and the Two Thumb Prints are the Two Top Ayatollas signatures

marcel, of course russia is involved in all of this. do you think the arabs have a tech knowhow to develope and build missiles, fighter jets, etc... yes, it is mother russia, who after suffering a complete defeat and humiliation by president reagan, now see the opportunity to become again a major power and player.....in the mid east!, not in the world, though. and.....it is giving it back to the usa in three folds by using israel as its target. perhaps, just a joke gere, russia wants communize the middle east???? or appease their chechen rebels and muslim territories in russia? who knows, right? anyway, i do sincerely hope that the iranian top general has all the maps of the entire atomic and uranium enrichment labs burried underground. now, that would be a feat for the west and israel. israel already knows what russia sold the iranians, but we have to find out where the bombs, if any, are hidden.
8. YAH! LIKE Asharq al-Awsat KNOWS SOMETHING!
stude ham   (03.09.07)
As if that pulp rag ever carried reliable info from reliable sources... and could say something that was not already pre-fabricated by everyone else who still know nothing about this guy's whereabouts. But I do because I saw him with Elvis at the quik-e-mart and they were buying milk!
9. this general. how honest is his mission?
(03.09.07)
if a top lever, the one with lots of "maps", knowledge, etc.... defects from iran, it can only mean that he himself doesn't trust the iranians to prevail in all this conflict, doesn't trust the regime there rto stay in power, doesn't trust anything ahmadinejad is doing and doesn't have faith in his country's survival. he is running because he's afraid of what's to come.....and i hope israel and the usa are listening v ery closely. on the other hand, this new development of the general's defection may be just a ploy and trick by the iranian mullas and ahmadinejad to provide the western intelligence with false information. him getting money to defect is not the issue here. he was living a great life in iran compared to his populace and public who live in poverty, etc... after all he was an integral part of the government and they feed them very well while the popolation suffers food shortages and opression as well as severe unemployment and drug addiction. no, this guy either ran on his own or was sent by the iranian regime to fool the west.

AR ,   USA   (03.09.07)
America wants to "democratize the middleeast" hows that working out. How long is it gonna take for people in the states to see what is really going on here. America wants control over oil. Duh. America dosnt care about the Iraqis or the Iranians or the Afghans heck Iran has given more money to Afghanistan than America has. You guys are all delusional if you actually think this is a war on terror. America has funded terrorist from its inception. The contra's in Nicaragua. Al Qaeda. ring any bells?

14. CLASSIFIED DOCUMENTS
MAHMOOD ,   LONDON-UK   (03.09.07)
If and only if the gentleman has been so successful in carrying 'classified documents' with him and fled on his own, then I can see the weakness in Iranian Intelligence. However, if not, then there is bound to be a different story altogether. We shall be interested to know that.
15. #4 Alan
Mak ,   UK   (03.09.07)
I absolutely agree with you. I saw the same documents on the coffee table in my friend's house .The only trouble was that it was stained because the local chip shop had used them to wrap fish & chips in them. But it made fascinating reading & I took it to the US embassy in London myself. The man in the chip shop looked exactly like that Iranian spy! Isn't it amazing?
16. #12: it's not about oil, douche
Mario ,   USA   (03.09.07)
Spend some time to actually think about it instead of mimicking idiotic liberal bloggers or brainless NPR activists. It's been 4 years, and we have not stolen any oil. We could have bombed the living crap out of them, rebuilt oil refineries and loaded tankers to take the oil. Hasn't happened, so maybe you need to think about something else instead of regurgitating hippie slogans. IT WAS ABOUT URANIUM CAKES FROM NIGER! Study world events from a real source and learn something.
17. #11. Ahmadinejad, We Will Rock You!!

19. The general has something to sell !!
John N. ,   USA   (03.09.07)
he has a bridge in Brooklyn, the price is right $$$
20. Be Wary
Ryan ,   Calgary, Canada   (03.09.07)
This could be the so called evidence that the bush administration wants and needs to get support for attacking Iran. Is this evidence legitimate? Is this all staged? Does it even matter to the regular Joe? Not that I agree with Iran, I think they could pursue other means of energy, such as wind and solar and become a dominant figure in the world with new technologies, cause they do gloat about their scientists, they don't need nuclear, but I also don't trust the Bush adminisrtation. The average citizens will be the ones incurring losses in a conflict, I guarantee Bush would not be there, nor monkey man. I bet a dollar to a nickel that Olmert will be safely tucked away too.
21. Hope he not an Iranian agent "mission: mislead the west" !!
KMR ,   Middle East   (03.09.07)
22. WMD Again?
Dave Levy ,   Burbank. USA   (03.09.07)
Our illustrious leader gave WMD as the main reason for invading Iraq. This gave Saddam opportunity to destroy, hide, or ship them into Syria (trucks were seen going across the border). Now, an embolden Iran, seeing the obvious reluctance by the US to duke it out with them, is "negotiating" with US, while they continue to foment trouble all over the M.E. The bottom line: the US and Israel, for the survival of Judaism and Christianity, must decide when, not whether, to take out Iran's nukes and military arsenals. That decision must be made soon, no matter what this patriot for freedom has confided. Syria, also looking for conflict, is boosting it's weaponry along the Golan, thanks to the Ruskies. So, during the flight of our B1s to Iran, a short stint over Syria will do no harm.
23. Defectors
rickmd03 ,   bmore   (03.10.07)
Prior to and during the second Iraq war the US was sending messages to various figures in the Iraq government. The messages would simply popup on their screen. This guy may have been appoached in the same manner.
24. Viva Zorastrians/Bridges
Hinda Blas ,   San Francisco, Calif   (03.10.07)
To those who thought the "spy" and the late Queen singer are related - I like how you think. And to the ones who was talking about bridges, I'm the realtor on virtual bridges and the one going from LA-LA Land (Los Angeles) to Honolulu is up for grabs now - but you need special glasses to see it. And to the US, the country of my birth and of my parents birth -- ummm who's side are you on? Is the Bush(ed) Administration similar to the Carter Administration in where they sleep with the enemy?
25. Mario i seriously hope you were being sarcastic.
AR ,   USA   (03.10.07)
If you were serious then your an IDIOT. If you were serious. Yellow Cake? Yellow cake was bs and everyone knows this. It is hard to believe you are not joking with a statement like that. Even bush has said that was untrue. Douche. First of all we have bombed the crap out of that country. Second a new "iraqi" law ( i put it in quotes because maliki is a puppet government) says that american and british companies can come and get Iraqs oil. Guess what these companies are Chevron and BP. If you knew anything about what was really going on in Iraq you would shut your mouth and get in your corner where you belong. You and all americans who support this war should be ashamed of themselves. Psychopathic fools who believe anything they see on tv. OF COURSE THE WAR WAS FOR OIL.
26. Dave did you actually believe Saddam had WMD's.
AR ,   USA   (03.10.07)
We were bombing Iraq at the same time we were on a "diplomatic track" with them. We were bombing Iraq in 2002 idiot boy. This war wasnt started by muslims. Do you think it started on 9/11 please this war started at the end of the second world war. By the way Ryan actually said something i agree with for once. It is sad because if this story was on television americans wouldnt even question it.
27. i wish peretz would defect
(03.10.07)
28. FREDY MERCURY !!! is not dead !
(03.10.07)
Look at his picture :D
29. AR you are such a dear
(03.10.07)
Too bad that Iraqi oil is nationalised and has been since the 1930s. Oil Companies are also wary to invest into Iraq. Why> Because genius, getting Iraqi oil isn't as easy as flipping a switch. You need infrastructure - billions of dollars worth. With rebels hitting oil pipes and refineries (you know the places that give iraqis jobs and money), investments are lost. So the Iraqi government (not a puppet govt since poeple braved bombers and violence to get their voices heard) is trying to entice oil firms into joint partnership to pull the oil out of the ground (kinda like whats done in Saudi arabia) But Oil companies cant be coaxed, with the violence, the kidnappings and so on - the insurance is through the roof, not to mention that ROI wont be a reality for a decade or two. If this was really about oil nimrod, it would have been cheaper to simply bribe Hussein. He would have towed the line for greater acceptence in the intl community and all the perks given to other ME dictators. Think about it, really think (and research) what it takes for oil to be extracted - the amount of investment, the security needed, etc. Your argument falls flat. There were even oil execs in 2002/2003 saying that they would be fools to try to invest in Iraq after a war with no stability, rule of law, banking laws. But go back to your leftist propaganda media were realities and fact dont mean much... Shabbat Shalom
