However, keeping to the analogy, you might want to consider the following in making a better diagnosis. Like with every contagion, there is the pathogen and environmental/social conditions that nake people more vulnerable to catching and spreading the pathogen. One must try to deal with both the pathogen and the enviro-socio-conditions that help it. Sometimes it is easier to deal with the latter. IMHO, the latter in this case, is a perception of injustice in the muslim/arab world and an a perceived sense of muslim/arab weakness to correct this injustice in conventional ways. The "pathogen" is hard to identify. But if I were to hazard aguess it is a hybrid of unenlightened western domination of the middle-east and morally bankrupt middle-eastern leadership. So to deal with the pathoden begin with more enlightened western domination that supports leadership that more closely identifies with tehir constituents. To deal with the "unhygienic" enviro-social conditions: well work towards justice in the middle-east, and ideally in the whole world. That is "tikkun" in ivrit. Spiritual teachers and political leaders that intentionally provoke, and indulge such emotions, thus enslaving others to perform the sins of obsessions, are the practitioners of the darkest of arts, as they cause the soul to be earth-bound.
