Avraham ,   NYC   (03.28.07)
Orly, you're happy Saudis threw you a bone and let you come visit them after playing pretty hard to get? Is that like the pinnacle of your happiness?

Joe Example ,   California, USA   (03.28.07)
4. Is this all you can report from Riyadh?
Concerned Israeli ,   Israel   (03.28.07)
I would expect more of someone who ban ki moon fought so hard to get a visa for! Have you nothing more to report?
5. The issue was never about you...
Ben Hur ,   Manhattan, USA   (03.28.07)

7. Impressive
Anders ,   Oslo, Norway   (03.28.07)
Orly, some of the comments here are simply blind to the importance of you taking part. A bone? It is still very important - and certainly an encouraging move from Saudia Arabia. What more do your readers expect? Parades? Promises of peace and happiness?
8. Ban Ki-Moon is a good person
Daniel van Dalen ,   Jerusalem   (03.28.07)
He is really neutral. Even more so than Kofi Annan, who -for the UN- was already quite neutral. Ban Ki-moon is a very good man, and I hope that he will do everything possible to help us live our life in peace. His background from a country that is quite neutral regarding our conflict assures his neutrality. Ban Ki-Moon has my full support.
9. Thats it Orly.....
Ram ,   london   (03.28.07)
in the eyes of Mr Ban, and probably the western world, the Saudis have made such a huge sacrifice of their principles and let in one jewess. Meanwhile, over a million arabs comfortably reside within Israel proper, have voting rights, are represented in parliament and spit and plot against the state. Of course, in the eyes of the world, your admission into Saudi Arabia is probably viewed as a greater concession.
10. all of you
paul malykont ,   United States   (03.28.07)
Take the good and work against the bad. they let a Jewish, Israeli woman attend an official conference. They think it's a major step, we think it is only right. Respect their act and continue to work for more.
11. Crazy
Saudi ,   australia   (03.29.07)
Some of the posts here are so ignorant. Its these sorts of mentalities that are found on both sides of the conflict that causes as all the trouble. I extend a warm welcome to visit Saudi Arabia to everyone regardless of nationality, religion or race as long as they are wise and have good intentions.
12. Dhimmi Orly. Ugh!
Adina Kutnicki ,   US   (03.29.07)
Orly, have you finished kissing their turbans yet and polishing their boots? Are you pleased to be a good, obedient little dhimmi? You are insipid and a disgrace. If you had balls you wouldn't need to be castrated.
13. #2
Naftali   (03.29.07)
Man, you guys are amazing. You head is so far up your behind with your religious fanaticism, you cant even be rational.
14. #10
aboulafia ,   israel   (03.29.07)
couldnt have said it better myself. orly, kol hakavod lach. we need more women like u to serve as examples not only to fellow israelis, but to the world as well. surrounding nations may be unrightfully stubborn but you got thru, and i think that helps to pave the way (even in a small bit) for others, gd willing...
15. 2 Sure why is she wearing a scarf in the first place she
freedom ,   canada   (03.29.07)
certainly is not practicing Islam. Have you heard about religious freedom yet?? Its well known in many western countries. Cheers.
16. The Best Ambassadors
D ,   Belgium   (03.29.07)
Congradulations Orly on being part of this historic experience. Each time an Israeli or Jew encounters someone from the Arab world we have a chance to break the block in their minds about us! They see that we don't have horns and that we are human and not the monsters we are made out to be in their education and media systems.. You are the most important ambassador for us right now. Do a great job! Good luck!
17. #16. You are wrong!
Ram ,   london   (03.29.07)
My family and I have been surrounded by arabs all our lives as we either lived in arab countries or a country with a high arab population. Most of our business was and is done with arabs who will always speak to us in a friendly way peppered with blessings. These very same people did not hesitate to join in the frenzy of jew killing during the various wars between the arabs and israelis. I speak from experience.
18. #12 foul comment
Rustum ,   London, UK   (03.29.07)
Obviously you are not a person interestedi n the least in either news, truth or peace. One of the major difficulties with the rabid brain-infected supporters of Israel (who do not live there) is that they have a great inability to recognise between friendly overtures and respond only with inelegant, vulgar and neolothic hostility. Ms Kutnicki's comments about castrating the female journalist "if you had balls" falls into the category of a stinking reflection upon the poster of note #12.
19. spineless
incredulous   (03.29.07)
This woman claims to be a Jewish Israeli, but gladly defers to the imposition of arabic custom, and incredibly responds with "inshallah" when greeted by her hosts. If this represents Israeli Jewishness, then WE HAVE ALREADY LOST.
20. #15 Re Headscarf
Petunia ,   PNW, USA   (03.29.07)
"When in Rome, do as the Romans do." It is considered immodest for a woman's hair to be uncovered in Saudi (and Mea Shearim, for that matter), just as in my country it is considered immodest for a woman to dress topless in public. If someone from a tropical island where women can dress topless visits my country, she should wear a blouse out of courtesy and respect, just as I should cover up in Mea Shearim or Saudi per the local custom. This is not dhimmitude, but respect for local standards of dress. Oh, and p.s., the male journalists in Saudi cannot go shirtless---there are restrictions on how men dress in public too.
21. Ram's comment on Orly

You are absolutely right, Ram.

23. 20 Out to lunch. What you say implies that there is
freedom ,   canada   (03.30.07)
religious intolerance in Saudi Arabia. There is freedom to practice your religion in the west for the most part without any real conditions. So go and support the Saudis do we outlaw Islam in the west. Do we not allow those that want to practice Islam in the west not the chance to practice what they believe. Your attitude is what causes too many problems throughout the world. Equality and freedom is what we all need.
24. Israleis are NOT welcome in Arab Lands
Noora ,   Bahrain   (04.01.07)
25. Israeli journalist in Riyadh
Amy ,   New York, USA   (04.02.07)
So now Israelis are supposed to be "grateful" that the hateful Saudis have decided to treat a Jew like a human being for a change? Spare me, Mr. Ban.
