1. Why do we publish this?
Gil ,   Tel aviv   (04.04.07)
Its either false propaganda but more likely irresponsible media. If it is true then how does it help us to give away information like this?
2. to #1. the last war showed the dangers of complacency
aaron ,   ra'anana   (04.04.07)
for 6 years, since Barak's folly of the unconditional retreat from lebanon, Barak, Mofaz, Sharon, Olmert, Halutz and Yaalon all whitewashed the danger Hezbollah poses in lebanon as well as the danger Hamas poses in Gaza now that they have been given free rein there's no time like the present to get all of these failings OUT IN THE OPEN so the public can make choices about their representatives in the Knesset which ones are complete INCOMPETENT which ones are TILTING AT WINDMILLS, which ones have no PERCEPTION OF REALITY, and which ones are SELLING US OUT TO OUR ENEMIES
3. To #1 How else do want the enemy to learn

about our problems? The first thing the govt should do is to train the soldiers properly and to make sure that all units are supplied with the best. There should be not excuse that there is no money. There is money to over pay civil servants and to bring in elderly and sick immigrants. There is money for pensions of people who have never worked here a second in their lives. There is money to pay welfare and yeshiva students. There is money to send people overseas to teach foreigners health care and agriculture. But there is not enough money to have the reservists trained for ten days this year. There is money for everything but our reservists and the defense of our country.

Shai ,   Israel   (04.04.07)
Because the current Defense Minister needs this kind of knowledge to be spread to save his neck. He is blaming the previous Defense Ministers for ignoring the training, and thus he can't be blamed for the failure to meet the objectives in Lebanon.
5. Talk of war will lead to it.

6. #1 --not like it is some state secret,,,
Yael ,   tel aviv   (04.04.07)
Hello! Anyone who was alive and conscious during the war last summer is more than aware of the fact that our reserve soldiers are not adequately trained or prepared. Recall how we did during that war, yes? I don't think anyone is dumb enough to think that in the few short months since last summer our reserves troops have miraculously gotten up to speed and now are battle-ready experts. 5 days of training in a year is a joke, but so is 10. sure that is fine for those who only recently became reservists but for those who have been out of the IDF for 5 plus years? No way. Every 5th year out post compulsary service should see a full 2 months training, IMO with the 10 days sufficing for the years between those intensive "up to speed" years. Obviously though, it is going to take us years before the reservists are back in top form.
7. Here in the green and pleasant United Kingdom
Adamush ,   UK   (04.04.07)
All military-age males (over the age of 14) are required by law to attend an hour or two's archery practice every Sunday. I can't see why a similar scheme shouldn't be adopted in Israel.
8. Anyone else notice...
Ayelet Chen ,   Israel   (04.04.07)
that Israel in 2007 is run by corrupt politicians and military staff, even more corrupt histadrut committees and greedy religious authorities and business-persons. Nothing here happens if it does not provide a profit to one of those groups or their selected friends. All of the donated billions from abroad is at the discretion of corrupt filthy histadrut members who see all donors and offshore zionists as freiers (suckers). Israel has plenty of money. Israel is bereft of ethics and the Reserves were a large number of the losses suffered in the 2nd Lebanon War. The author provided an accurate description of the plight of the Reserves.
9. Reserve soldiers will die if inadequately trained

10. I have to agree with #3

11. 85 percent ready!
Hansje   (04.04.07)
So what. 15 percent not ready means 85 percent ready. And believe me, even those 15 percent "not ready" know much more than the so called standing regular armies of Nato who's only knowledge is the difference of the taste of beer brands. I know that, I was in one of their armies...
12. the top men believed the legends and got negligent
zionist forever   (04.05.07)
This is a result of year after year of politicians using the millitary budget as the source for funding all the high profile civilian projects but you take from the same source all the time eventually its not going to have the capability to do the job properly A few million here and there nobody notices that the millitary are suffering as a result they just see the high profile civilian projects being completed so nobody complains untill you need to fight a war and because you havnt been spending the money the army is not capable of defending the country properly. The insitution has come to believe in the legends of previous victories that suround the IDF legends are fine for enemies and ordinary people to belive in but the people in charge of the IDF shouldnt start believing in the old legends and get negligent as a result of it. In todays IDF the equipment might be more hi-tec but whats the point of hi-tec equipment if the soilders dont know how to fight properly and make best use of this equipment both the politicians and IDF top men should be ashamed of the fact that they have allowed things to sink to this level. Attitudes must change the IDF must be given the money by the politicans and the decison makers in the IDF need to be spending this money on buying the ground forces the equipment they need and giving them the training they need. Before Lebanon the IDF was surounded by legends of previous victories but today as a result of all this neglect of the IDF has gone from being the legendry force that everybody respected to the laughing stock of the Middle East an army of amuters is now the new impresion that Israels enemies have. The IDF should also not be making this kind of information public its not something to be proud of and its something that needs to change enemies should not be officialy told that 15-20 percent of the reserve forces are not traiined well enough to fight wars.
