Why the BBC wanted to ax him is of much greater interest ? If they had come to the conclusion that he was presenting biased stories which of course he was then this is a significant step forward. One can now feel sorry for him at hope that he will get needed treatment when he's returned to the UK.

If the BBC had any integrity it would have published the Balen report. The report looked at the conduct of the BBC in reporting the ME conflict. One can only assume that if the conclusion of the report was that the BBC reporting was impartial then they would publish. Clearly that is not the case. The BBC could argue that they don't intentionaly appoint reporters with a anti Israel bias but what they do is appoint reporters with similar political prospectives. Under those circumstances you can never get impartiality. Finally older UK TV journalists have started to comment that todays reporters at the BBC spend far too much time putting forward there own views rather than report facts.

Sorry to see the honesty & objectivity of the BBC slowly decline to this point. The BBC used to set the standard, but now has fallen by the wayside.
