Mark from NZ   (04.17.07)
U.N.Resolution 242 calls on Israel to withdraw from Gaza,West Bank,East J. and Golan Heights. If Israel does not come to the table then Syria has a right of resistance according to the Geneva Convention.

65. July 2007
Jack ,   USA LA   (04.17.07)
Well, in july 2006 Isreal was smashed down...I don't see why the same thing will not happen in 2007 in a war against Syria
66. This is black mail
Daniel ,   Israel   (04.17.07)
"Syrian information minister says Damascus wants peace, but will resort to violence if Israel rejects peace proposal" This is total blackmail Mr. Bilal. Who started the whole thing and why? "It was all started by Arabs around and beyond Israel; right? What was the Aim then? To wipe out Israel; right? If you had to succeed and you won Israeli land; would you have ever thought of returning the land? No; right? Then why are you crying now? Dictating terms? And provoking and forcing Israel to another disturbance? Or is this a part of Doha conference? Is this; what was discussed and agreed in camera at that conference?

Please; Go ahead and try to liberate the Golan heights. This time Damascus will become Israeli occupied territory.
71. What To Tell Syria
Reuven Brauner ,   Raanana, Israel   (04.17.07)
In 1967, Syria attacked Israel. A war broke out, and Syria lost. They also lost the Golan Heights. This is the risk a country takes when it goes to war. It risks losing land if it loses the war. If a country does not wish to take that risk, it should not go out to war. Because of this, the Golan Heights now belong to Israel and Syria has no claims to it any longer. If Syria begins war again, and again loses, we will just take another chunk out of "Syria" for ourselves. Those are the rules.
72. Unbelievable.

Yesterday, Yom Hashoa, I wrote in a talkback, about the treachery that made Britain party to the crime in the extermination of European Jewry during WWII. I explained that by imposing the White Paper policy, in total breach with the decisions of the League of Nations in 1922, Britain as mandatory closed the borders of Palestine to Jews trying to flee Europe, and had no other place where to go. But this was not the first treachery of Britain. This country became the Mandatory of Palestine, a territory that included the Golan Heights, due to the same resolutions of the League of Nations voted the 24th of July 1922. I quote article 5: "THE MANDATORY SHALL BE RESPONSIBLE FOR SEEING THAT NO PALESTINE TERRITORY SHALL BE CEDED OR LEASED TO, OR IN ANY WAY PLACED UNDER THE CONTROL OF, THE GOVERNMENT OF ANY FOREIGN POWER." Nevertheless, in total breach of article 5, Britain ceded the Golan Heights to France, the Mandatory of Syria. This illegal act by Britain should be considered as nil and void. Consequently the Golan Heights may be considered legally as Israeli territory. I am convinced that the Syrian information minister knows the history of his country, but takes advantage from the inertia, the flabbiness and the cowardice of the Israeli triumvirat (Olmert, Livni and Peretz) who don't dare to come forward and defend the rights of the State of Israel. Since years the Israeli leadership became a master in transforming a good cause into a bad suit!
73. Dilusional Syria
Caroline ,   London   (04.17.07)
needs to get hit over the head againa and reminded of where it's place in the world is-nowhere.Feeling a bit safe at the moment but one big 'BUH' by Israel and they will be shaking in their boots and running as usual.
74. the great misuse of words
alef ,   herzilya, israel   (04.17.07)
"when a nation is under occupation it resists" - syria is not a nation under occupation - the syrian nation does not answer nor live under israeli rule - they may feel they had land taken but they are far from a nation under occupation - lets face it, one of the biggest allawite (assads ethnicty) towns begged israel to make rajan part of israel - not even the natives of golan want to be syria!!!
75. Get a clue,#5 not real
Libby   (04.17.07)
Of course #5 is a joke. Muslims typically are not interested in hockey and if they did play would certainly not be wearing a turban. The letter is so poorly written as to be comical. Even recent immigrants would be capable of better grammar than used in this feeble attempt at satire. Just some yahoo trying to be funny.
76. #5 "COMMENT OF THE YEAR" :-)

77. Mark; #61- WRONG
Doc Holliday ,   Detroit   (04.17.07)
Put simply your wrong about 242 it does not say what you alluded to.A simple Google search will show your common error. What is the meaning of resistance? Show me where the Geneva Convention it says you can target civilians! If it is a straight up war fine, although sad, If it is walking into a cafe and blowing yourself up to kill people who are no immediate threat to you that's called murder. Even the UN has a resolution stated that. In fact it is murder in all civilized countries. Only the maniacs around Israel say it's not! Is that the side your on ? A rose by any other name is still a rose.

80. Golan was liberated from SYRIAN OCCUPATION
Gidi ,   Jerusalem, Israel   (04.17.07)
The Golan was it and will be Jewish territory forever, that is, belonging to the Jewish people and their country Israel. Don't dare to think you'll get it back, ever. You'll have to forget about it end of story.

I agree that a raod to peace points possibly to Damascus. Cerainly not Damascus alone but via Teheran. How are we going to solve this problem.? By cutting the money/ supplies of The Armed Forces in order to ground a great nation like the U.S.A.? IThe U.S.A. is the only country in the world who has always protected Democracy and and our way of living.... and the courage to fight for it. The same for Israel. And i am afraid that the short vision or better the total lack of a vision of some Democrats will accelerate the down fall of the U.S.A. and Israel. Are we blind for the build up of The Hamas. The Hezbollah, The Syrien Army on the Golan Heights , the war in Iraq, the terrosists supported and supplied by Iran and so on and on. Do we really think there will be peace by retreating The American Forces from Iraq . I do not believe it. If this happens a much bigger war in the Middle Eas will come and this will certainly be the end of Israel. Little knowledge is a dangerous thing. There is no substitute for Victory.
