John ,   Amsterdam, Holland   (04.20.07)
Though I think it would be difficult for the population to accept Judaism after such a long time and the most, not even experiencing Judaism themselves. Would be great though.

Not far from Cape Verde is another ex-Portuguese colony called Sao Tome Principe, an island of 170 000 people. Many of the people there, also practicing Christians, who talk of their original Jewish roots, very proudly. They are the descendents of 600 Jewish orphans banished by the Portuguese to this island during the inquisition in the 1400's.Following geneology more closely would reveal suprising Jewish ancestory popping up all over the the Christian & Muslim world.

M.Mitchell Serels ,   New Rochelle USA   (04.25.07)
The ambassador should have looked into his library in Dakar and found my book from 1997 on the Jews of Cape Verde. He would have also found the records of the Cape Verde-Israel Friendship society founded in 1996, during my isit there. He might also inquire abou the cape verde association here in t he USA.
10. From Adilson Varela
Adilson Varela ,   Aveiro, Portugal   (04.27.07)
Mr M. Mitchell I’d appreciate and I’m sure that I will enjoy reading your book “The Jewish of Cape Verde”. I’m looking for it. Besides, I’d like to tell that the news “Jewish roots in Cape Verde” needs a little clarification: taking Luna Ben Shimol as a reference (one Shlomo Ben Shimol’s granddaughter), it is easy to see that he didn’t came to Cape Verde in 1904, just because Luna was born in 1895. If it's possible I' d like so much to know the activities organized by the Cape Verde-Israel Friendship Society. Cordially and my capeverdean greeting. Adilson Varela
