3. Don't forget we light fireworks on their disaster day(Naqba)
So they are only getting back at us. The problem here is that they live in Israel, not in some Arabaica province and they should respect and accept that. If they really feel bad about the creation of Israel and consider this as a disaster, they should leave and find a place that will fit them. You can be Muslim, Christian or Jew in Israel. You can be Arab, Maroccan, Russian or Polish in Israel. But most of all, YOU MUST BE ISRAELI and respect ISRAEL. Fireworks on rememberance day is inconsiderate and provocative and shows they do not want to live here in peace and harmony. Then they come and complain about discrimination and being treated as Type B citizens. What did you expect? START RESPECTING ISRAEL AND ISRAEL WILL START RESPECTING YOU. Otherwise, go live in a country more adapted to your expectations. Nobody is forcing them to stay here, but respect is expected if you do choose to live in ISRAEL.

8. provocation?
or a symptom of trouble? the arab population of israel has been alienated over the years to the extent that it now poses a real threat to the country: many support the "palestinian cause" and some have even helped carry out attacks. and when hezbollah rockets land on their villages, instead of blaming hezbollah, they curse israel. (for not installing the air raid sirens that they refused to accept.) it is time to reconsider israel's policies towards israeli arabs, to give them a fairer share in the life of the country and something to lose if israel is destroyed.

9. I saw them coming from Jaffa too!

10. what do you all expect?????
this is who you got to deal with. what do you expect from these folks? i do not condone it what they are doing, but i am not surprised either.

11. Did number 3 actually say:
"You can be Muslim, Christian or Jew in Israel. You can be Arab, Maroccan, Russian or Polish in Israel. But most of all, YOU MUST BE ISRAELI and respect ISRAEL. " now that's an oxymoron if ever there was one. Sigh...if I could list right here and now the Israeli talkbacks celebrating the death of Palestinians with "good work IDF!" I reach hundreds and would still be counting. Dont you get it yet, as long as you call it Israel they will call it Palestine
(04.23.07)
12. #11
They can call it whatever they want. Israel has been internationnaly recognised back in 1948 and everything that used to be Palestinian (including the Jews) became israeli. As I said in my previous talkback, those who don't accept this fact can move to a place they consider real. As for the "good work IDF" thing, I agree with you. It's a pitty that so much hatred grew up from the refusal to acknowledge Israel as a free country, and from so many wars waged upon Israelis. I dislike this just like you and do not condone killing innocent people. But do you believe French and British felt bad about the poor German civilians being bombed? Did the Americans feel bad for the poor Vietnamese peasants being slaughtered? Did the so-called "Modern Palestinians" feel bad about the thousands of victims of 9/11? Did any of us feel bad about the countless victims in Somalia? We are only humans and war creates feelings of hate and fear. Maybe if our Arab neighbours had accepted Israel at his creation, and had supported it instead of trying to destroy it, we would have nothing but good feelings for them, but the fact they tried to anihilate us from day 1 creates here a sense that it is either them or us. So if the IDF gets a terrorist, well done IDF. Not all Palestinians are terrorists but over 90% of them voted either for Fatah or Hamas, who both declare in their charter, up to this day, their ultimate goal to kill or kick all the Jews from this land. Should we accept their plans for us and embrace them with open hearts? Or do we defend ourselves as long as they keep on coming at us? I wish we could all live in peace and harmony but as I said before, when in the jungle, don't expect mutual respect. Get a gun and defend yourself. Do you expect the IDF not to kill a terrorist planning to bomb our children? Should we feel bad and cry for this terrorist who got shot while trying to infiltrate Israel with guns and grenades on his belt? Fighting for your survival might be a forgotten concept in Europe, but here we are reminded every single day that if we don't watch out, they will try to come and get us. WHO ARE YOU TO TELL US NOT TO DEFEND OUR CHILDREN?
Takan ,   Eilat   (04.23.07)

What do you propose then as a retaliation? We send them Belgian chocolates and an apology note for the last 59 years? GET REAL. Israel was created not from violence or war but from international politics. They brought violence to us and now they complain we're a little heavy handed. Next time, think about the consequences before you send another suicidal brainwashed kid to blow himself up. PS.: If they were smart, they would rather live with an experienced woman than die with 72 virgins.

nahhhhhh. insensitive- now there's a word!

18. DON'T BE SO SENSITIVE
We in the US have had similar issues for 150 years. The Southern states versus the Northern states in the way the Civil War is remembered. (On official Memorial Day all come together in memory of those who fought at times when our country has been united.) For 76% of the Israeli population this Memorial Day commemorates a tragedy of soldiers killed, but for the other 24% the occasion is quite different. Maybe if Israel, the entire country, had silence on Naqba Day for the Arabs they would reciprocate.
Arik Silverman ,   Milwaukee USA   (04.23.07)
19. They do it because they can.
They do it because you allow them to get away with it. BTW, nobody should be awaken at 5am because of neighbor's religious practices, not in a non-muslim country.
AK   (04.23.07)
20. #8 arab population has been alienated from date 1...
now they have the numbers to cause trouble. You don't buy off the enemy, you get rid of it. And no, you cannot buy off muslims, Israel has been trying do do it since its inception and it has never worked, except in limited instances. Israel has shown enough of good will, it's time we started seeing some reciprocity from the Arabs.
AK   (04.23.07)
21. Arabs set off fireworks after memorial siren
What struck me about this article was the hypocrisy ... when Israelis take about insensitivity of their Palestinian neighbours - over what ... fireworks! And so what if Palestinians want to celebrate a wedding ... it is their human right to do so any day of the week. Just like the Israelis who seem to enjoy the suffering of the Palestinians in Gaza every day of the week.

23. #18 celebrate and mourn at the same time?
Your suggestion is completely mental. You suggest that we mourn on our Independence Day out of our sensitivity to those that we fought to achieve our survival. If the Arabs would have won in '48 then we would have been silent forever. Your next suggestion: celebrate Yom HaShoah by memorializing Hitler.

24. #23 - Don't fall for that Jewish name
(04.23.07)
25. 11, 21 - some important contrasts
11- When Israelis say good job IDF on these talkbacks, they say it in response to IDF killing of gunmen - aka, foiling the plan of enemy combatants. Now, one might say that reciprocal celebration of soldiers' deaths is understandable, since they too are combatants. Except for two things: 1) This is a memorial day also for civilian terror victims. (BTW, as a general question, why are Arab-Israelis so reticent about condemning terrorists who choose to target children and elderly with nail bombs, so as to inflict as much damage as possible?) 2) During most of Israel's wars (48, 67, 73) the target of the Arab attackers was Israeli annihilation. This was an overt, stated goal mentioned repeatedly at Arab summit meetings. In contrast, while there are some Israelis (such as extreme talkbackers whom you constantly and erroneously cite as if they're representative of all Israelis) who want to expunge Israel of the Arabs, they certainly don't want to 'throw them into the sea' - as was the Arab litany regarding Israel for the first few decades that it was a state. In fact, the majority of Israel's population, including its government, calls for and attempts to advance a two-state solution (aka, the opposition of annihilation). On the other hand, as you yourself concede in your post, Arab Israelis and Palestinians want a Palestine not beside Israel, but INSTEAD of Israel. In other words, the Israeli side's policy indicates a positive sum end-goal involving compromise, while the other side's policy involves a zero-sum end goal at Israel's expense. Celebrating the death of combatants in this context is a little different, I think. 21 - Yes, people can celebrate weddings whenever they want. However, the article stated that fireworks went off only a few minutes after the memorial siren. This suggests a political statement of 'yay, we're happy you died'. Your comment about the suffering of Palestinians is irrelevant in this case, because the revelers were Arab Israelis, not Palestinians. The Arab Israelis who stayed in Israel and didn't attack Israeli soldiers in 1948 remained in Israel and received citizenship. They currently receive 50% of the state's welfare benefits and have several knesset members, one of whom is a minister. Is there room for improvement? Yes, but it's still a much better state of affairs than that of their brethren who ran to Jordan and Egypt in 1948 (at the encouragement of Arab league leaders, btw), who still have not been incorporated into Jordanian or Egyptian society. While we're on the subject, though, how do Israelis actively enjoy themselves at Palestinians' expense? Some extreme talkbacks notwithstanding, do they dance on the rooftops when Palestinian civilians die and hand out candy (as happened in W. Bank and Gaza after a number of suicide bombings)? No. They apologize and try to rectify military operating policy. Do they reject a two-state solution? No. They have a multitude of political parties and grassroots groups calling for its immediate implementation and increased rights for Palestinians (in contrast, at the same time, even the 'moderate' Fatah party refuses to condemn suicide bombings as MORALLY wrong). Just because Israelis celebrate Independence Day and the fact that they survived repeated plans to 'throw them into the sea' or the fact that they continue to survive Hamas' charter which glorifies suicide bombings and racistly calls to 'eliminate the Jewish state because of its Jewish essence' doesn't mean that they 'enjoy the suffering' of Palestinians.

26. jan, those Arabs are not in Gaza, they're Israelis.
If their loyalty is to gazans, they should move to Gaza. We ALL expect the citizens of our countries to be loyal... or at least to refrain from public displays of hostility and contempt. Come down to earth, Jan.

27. 2 important facts about Haifa yesterday (22.4)
1. We delayed our annual virgin Maary Patron of the Carmel procession by a week, it usually comes at the 2nd sunday after the easter. We're gonna hold it next sunday, everybody's welcome. Looks like you like to hear only a propaganda against us. 2. Yesterday was a memorial day of Haifa's fall, when jewish forces atacked the city and "liberated" it from it's own inhabitants, using terror managed to ethnically cleanse it from almost 72000 palestinians (only 3 thousands remained). It's important to emphasize that it was defended mostly by haifaites who didn't occupy or attack the jewish neiborhoods. Also some Haifa jews called for the palestinian population to stay, but they were few and they didn't do anything like go into a neibours house and not allow the hagannah (which later went home by home) to expell it's people. Tirat Carmel held under siege 3 months and surrendered in July, it was also cleansed! Happy Atzmaut
