1. Let's have a little Civil War, instead...
Secular anti-corruptionists against Everyone Else.
Failing that, enough people will die due to bad roads and drivers to make up for another war's death-count.

2. Preemptive Action Is Always Better Option
Allowing our enemies to choose the time of an attack is a poor strategy. The risk of war, according to the "experts", was slim in 1973 also. Allowing a bad situation to evolve into a dangerous situation is what politicians do best. You have only to look at what happened in S. Lebanon over the six years since we withdrew. Look at Gaza since the withdrawal where a bad situation becomes worse by the day. Look at the total lack of progress in stopping Iran - more than three years of useless talks. Syria is no exception.

3. Syria. Who calls the shots?
Assad? NO
Baath? NO
IRAN YES
If Syria is not careful it could find itself overnight a Shia Satellite of Iran and Assad and his Baathists eliminated.
And is you think thats fanciful, just take the trouble to find out or talk to RG's about what their officers say about Syria, Lebanon and their vision of an Iranian Empire.

4. Terry Has Valid Points
No one expected the 73 war, when Egyptians were out in the sunshine, basking. It was a great rouse. Personally, W/O Egypt, I cannot fathom Syria going to war, even aided by Hezbollah and Hamas. It needs a big Muslim country to assist, like Egypt or Iran. Iran won't attack before it gets one nuke on a Shihab Missile as a deterrent, or offensive weapon. But in the crazy M.E., anything is possible. Israel would have to basically destroy Syria to win., no half-measures. Damascus would be history. Assad may be myopic, but he knows where his bread is buttered. Syrian Scuds with bc warheads vs Israeli nukes. Nah., I don't think so.

6. disagree
((Our deterrence power has dropped, but not to the level required for Syria to embark on war.)) days before the 73 war, the question of war was absolutely null as Israel was supposed at the acme of "deterrence" and rectifying the flaws began later after the Agranat.
((it was highly successful in destroying all medium and long range rocket launchers happen to be the rockets in Syrian hands.)). Do you that it's not only the quality but also the quantity which matters. Syrians had the time to rectify the flaws in protecting its rockets. Most importantly, the huge number ! do you know what makes a flu epidemic deadly; it's the number.
((Israel would not play with its hands tied behind its back)) Sadat said in 73: "a depth for a depth". The painful hits of Hizbullah to the north is just like finger pricking to what Syria would opt to.

7. There won't be a war because Israel won't start one
It was not Hizbullah that started the war. Israel started the last war. The lebanese merely captured prisoners for exchange. Now Israel is in no position to start another war and that is the only reason there will not be another war. Israel has never sought peace. In fact Israel can have true peace tomorrow if they exchanged all the prisoners and returned all illegally occupied land in lebanon, syria, and the west bank. You are all so afraid of the Arab peace proposals because you don't want to give the land back because you believe that god gave it to you. As do the islamists. These expansionist policies and not the Islamists are the true threats to Israel's survival. I will also add that the US government is not being a friend to Israel by supporting it in expansionist wars. A friend would work to help you make peace with your neighbors who have been seeking it since the early 1970s. Instead, the US is playing on your post holocaust paranoia and using Israel as the big bad wolf in the neighborhood to control the region and dominate the oil contracts. In fact it was the US that wanted this last war and coerced Israel into it. Not much coercion needed. Your prime minister and our president deserve each other. God help our peoples.

8. Can Iran endure active chaos ?
I have to admit that I try to deploy here a suggestion made by Uzi Landau, though I am not a member of his circle, nor his party.A distinquished personality like you maybe bothered, I think, with a question which botheres me both morally and practically : if Iran becomes a major instigator and supplier of terrorism in the world, can there not be institued, in an informal way, a manner of warfate which counteres those tendencies on Irans own soil?
After all, Iran is a big country, with a huge population. Infiltration into its human infrastracture can be quite feasible, and not unlike in the situation in Egypt, when we succeeded preventing Germans from neuclear exploitation, and just bits of action may hinder their projects quite effectively, or possibly so.
Let us agree that we, the Israelis , will not deal with that, but other powers in the world. Is it possible to spread the idea of acting in this way, or is it just a figment of my imagination?
Thanks, Professor Be-Israel, in advance for enlightment.

12. IDIOT
Israel will be gone soon if such such 'defence analysts'' are to be taken seriously. just read:
"Even overtaking Damascus and toppling the Syrian regime would not be automatically disqualified."
They say never underestaimate your enemy. And never overestimate your power too.
But all this is good for those who want the Zionist entity to become a part of history sooner than later.
