Fighting West's Islamophobia     Rabbi Levi Brackman
1. The Rabbi is missing the point....
Which is that 'moderate' Muslims don't say a peep when their brothers and sisters bring death to total strangers because their 'holy' book tells them to. And if 10 percent of the general Muslim population support jihad, then that's several hundred THOUSAND just here in the USA. If you read the Quran and the US Constitution, you will not see many similarities. What you will see are the rantings of a despot versus the considered desires for the betterment of an entire people. 'Classical American and Muslim values' are not the same, no matter what the Rabbi would like us to believe.
David ,   Hartford, CT USA   (05.12.07)
2. Always the victims!
It is raelly amazing... "six Muslims were arrested this week for plotting a terrorist attack on an American army base" ... ..... "He was expressing concern for the safety of his community ...." WHAT??? Why are these people always the victims??? Why not come out and say, "These pigs!" No no.... "The back lash, the back lash...."
Stu   (05.12.07)
3. David from Hartford is correct
Almost every poll of every Islamic community in the west shows that the majority of muslims support the "jihadist" or "fundamentalist" fight against the west. The blindness of those who believe that the majority of muslims are not represented by the minority of active fundamentalists is alarming. Muslims, as an entire community, must be forced to understand that any support, vocal or non-vocal to the jihadist war currently being fought against the west is a crime, and should be punished as such. If inflamatory speeches are given in a mosque, that mosque should be shut down and its members investigated. If a muslim, citizen or not, even hints of supporting to jihadist approach, that person and his family should be deported, or the person should be tried under the criminal provisions of hate legislation. Unless such measures are inacted quickly, Islam will take over democracies through demographic change. For those who want to believe that Islam is like every other religion, that is a misguided and naive belief. The fact is that most muslims (not all, but most), support fundamentalist islasmist views. This is a fact. There are a few vocal muslims that I give credit to who speak publicly against fundamentalist muslims. They do so at personal risk. These are the brave few. The rest are a danger to the western world, no matter how many degrees they obtain in western institutions, how many smiles and lies they spit out about loving their country (while at home and at the mosque cheering on Sharia law and muslim advance), and how many debates they engage in trying to portray themselves as victims. The world is in danger of Islam. I'm not sure if it will wake up quickly enough

4. Part 1
I wanted to thank rabbi Brackman for his words of understanding, and wisdom, especially at these times of madness, at a time when people in the west become popular and win elections by bashing Islam and Muslims. It takes a true man of religion, to say this and a brave man also. Thank you! There are many heinous crimes against civilians that have been committed lately in the name of Islam. This is a very serious problem challenging the west and Muslim countries also. There are many reasons why the Islamic world does not do as much as they should to stop this… 1. The concept of an Islamic nation is really a theoretical one, there is no such thing, at least these days. So when someone from Pakistan blows him self up somewhere in the name of Islam, a Muslim living in Tunisia for example, does not care, an does not see it as his problem. Therefore does not see the need to act upon denouncing it……the other thing, is that unlike what the west media creates the image, most Muslims in the middle east are secular, their everyday life concerns involve making a living, and having a good time, building a house….like everyone else world wide, not living in caves thinking about dying for there religion. Think about it, when Serbs massacred Muslims in Bosnia, it the outcry was from the international agencies, and some western governments, but not from the Nation of Christians…. 2. There is also confusion in the Arab and Islamic world on how to deal with this issue. On one hand some of the causes that are used to justify acts of violence are absurd, such as the “western values”. On the other hand there are causes that are true and real, needles to say that the Palestinian cause is the main driving force for the hate of the west, and now Iraq is. These are genuine causes. So if Muslims absolutely condemn the violence against the west by their brothers, they give ammunition to the west that “the west is right” ….the west does not see the causes as real, the west calls the occupation of Iraq “freedom”(biggest joke ever) and the Palestinian cause “trying to wipe Israel off the map”. There is always this debate in the Arab world, “they kill our civilians and people all the time, they use their armies and power, and don’t care, we don’t have as much power…why should we condemn? “...some of this is valid….. 3. Arabs and Muslim societies are very complex; there are socio-cultural class systems, tribal systems in some areas, so many dominant cultural norms that usually mix with religion….there is no one standard set of rules that everyone adheres to. Each community /country has its own special conditions. There is also big pressure on society members to adhere to the norms of the society (this a key difference compared to the west)……….so if you stand out and say this violence is wrong, when you have a population that feels victimized and supports it, you are putting your self into trouble. 4. Governments and education systems: there is always a fear of government in Arab countries especially. Most governments spread fear in its citizens as means of control. The act of going to the street as a form of protest (unless government orders so) is not a common method of expressing displeasure. It not part of the education system also…… 5. Islam: we were also taken by surprise (as the west was) by the acts committed in our name ….a unified religious scholarly system is not in place, one educated imam says “violence should not be used”, on the other hand 10 uneducated ones says “lets chop their heads off”…..religious debate in Islam is missing these days,,,,,, and that is so hard to do at especially times of conflict, and chaos……… continues down ...
Abdel ,   Nablus, Palestine   (05.12.07)
5. Part II
6. Media, Media, Media: this goes both ways. Until al-jazeera showed up, very little political debate, or religious debate was broadcasted on arab and muslim tv. Programs that challenge all what people take for granted are starting to emerge now, they were not there before…..as for the west, the opposite is happening. The rabbi said the west needs more education about islam, and the middle east, the reality is that there are been educated by fox, jihadi circulated videos on you-tube, and hate tanks (sorry think tanks ) In the US. These people are responsible as much as our jihadi’s for spreading hate and fear……media -as much of an asset it could be, is playing a horrible role in both sides of this conflict……. 7. A reader over here replied to one of my posts once and said “the west is starting to hate Islam and Arabs” . that actually made me laugh…because ever since the bible was put together, we have been considered the bad guys. The west has always had it in for the Arabs and Muslims especially with the long history of conflict. The big difference is that we hate you, but we see you as organized, and admirable to a certain extent. You hate us but see us as back-ward, unholy animals………. We think of Judaism and Christianity as parts of a great tradition, you see our religion as a joke, and despise it way before any terrorism started……you actually hate us more than we hate you because it is easier to hate someone you look down upon….think about that On a hopeful note, we really only need some time, and some peace of mind to reorganize, and to rethink our issues. We can’t do that with conflicts and the west poking-us-in the eye all the time, back-off, give us a break, and stop trying to change us by beating us-up, change will come from within only, and I mean this, it is starting to happen…….. there is much more to talk about..this is a very complicated issue .....
Abdel ,   Nablus, Palestine   (05.12.07)
6. Uhh, CAIR doesnt even condemn Hizballah/Hamas BY NAME
Oh sure they do the annoying - "we condemn all acts" but if you ask them do you condemn Nasrallah or Hizballah or Hamas, they will menuvour around it. Keep your sympathy for those that need it, ugh
(05.12.07)
7. Share the same values?
Absolutely not. All that Muslims see is the lack of moral values in the West, and if a Muslim says he shares the same values as America, he's not telling the truth. They completely despise the moral decline in the West and our freedom, both the good and the bad. What values could they possibly share? Name one. Democracy? Do you realize that the first thing that Muslims do when given the right to vote is to vote for sharia law. Islam is not compatible with secular government. Freedom of expression? Don't you remember the thousands who called for decapitation of those who drew or published offensive cartoons? Family values? I won't even go into that. So, Rabbi Brackman, although you are well-intentioned, with due respect I must say that the very premise of sharing values with Islam is flawed. Islam is not compatible with Western democracy. Now, there are people who are nominally Muslim, because for reasons of upbringing they cannot dissociate themselves completely from their religion, but deep at heart they may have embraced, somewhat, our Western values. They are seculars. They are not true Muslims. They are rare. If they were true Muslims they would have to follow the Koran and we know the Arabic version, not the English one, has it all spelled out very well: its intentions and the means to achieve its goals, and they are both very disquieting to us, who care to defend our way of life. Finally, one last point. It's not about what they say to us that matters. It's what they mean. It's what they teach in their schools and preach in their mosques. It's what they say when we are not listening. It's what they do and who they support. It's what charities they give money to. Words alone are cheap and meaningless. Acts count.

8. Islamophobia for all the right reasons
If instead of radical Muslim terrorists being responsible for 9/11 they were Jews you would have found the Jews of America and Canada filling every stadium from east to west loudly disassociating themselves from the criminals who would corrupt their faith. Hey, did anyone see or hear of any assembly of Muslims anywhere reacting in this manner? Those monsters, dear Rabbi, were their champions.

"you actually hate us more than we hate you because it is easier to hate someone you look down upon….think about that" ....No, sorry - that is bullshit. We don't 'hate' Muslims at all. Its the other way around. You forgot the key words...FEAR & ENVY. We don't feel that Islam has anything to offer us, to improve our lives - that is better than what we have. We see the same faults in your culture as ours but AMPLIFIED. In fact we FEAR Islam in that it threatens to take away what we have. Yes, we are organized and don't want anything that Muslims have or aspire to (I'm not talking about commodities). We see Islam as primitive ,restrictive and as I mentioned earlier, full of faults. Suggestions that somehow we could be better off , be a better people and as a community are treated by us with DERISION. This breeds ENVY & HATE within some Muslims who cant stand the fact we could all live our lives 'over here' and never miss anything remotely Islamic. We see moderate Muslims allowing radicals to speak for them. They are not 'hijacking' your religion, but being allowed to take center stage.

16. Response to # 4 and 5 Abdel
I notice that you, Abdel, did not once criticize the Islamists who bombed Americans in New York or daily bomb their fellow Muslims in Baghdad, nor did you criticize Iran and Mahmoud Ahmadinejad for remarks about wiping Israel off the map and denying the Holocaust took place, nor did you criticize Hizbollah and Hamas for daily lobbing rockets into the civilian neighborhoods of Israel and killing each other in Gaza and the West Bank, nor did you criticize any of the suicide bombers who enter Israel to wreak havoc on Israeli civilians. Until Muslims start the conversation by condemning the killers among them who murder in the name of Allah, then you will get no respect from anyone in the West. If Muslims want to be respected as decent human beings, then they must speak out against their kinsmen who do acts against humanity. It's not up to the rest of us to discern the good guys, it's up to Muslims to go out of their way to show by their words and deeds that they are not a threat. Right now, being a Muslim is synonymous with being a killer in the minds of many, and with good reason.

17. Rabbi is wrong
Sorry Rabbi but you are either horribly naive or purposely a liar. I hope it is the former because I would hate to think that a rabbi was purposely misleading us to believe the unthinkable. Where are these moderate Muslims who hold the same values as Americans? Are they cowering in fear beause they sure aren't viable. I would hate to think that American believe in jihad and that Jews and Christians are descended from apes and pigs and do not deserve to live because this is what the imams are spouting from their platforms in the mosques and this is what they are teaching their children from babyhood up. You are only spouting the blatter of the far left because perhaps it shars their beliefs that Jews must be murdered and that Israel does not deserve to be. If this is what you believe then you do not deserve the title rabbi.
Hilda ,   USA   (05.12.07)
18. Ye all are missing the rabbi's point!
whoever is criticizing rabbi brackmans invitation for moslems to explain how they share american values - you're missing a point: namely, that they CAN'T by the very definition of islam !!! but let the onus rather be on them. as the rule in the talmud: ma'motzi me'chavero - alav ha'raya...

19. Christians living peacefully in Muslim countries
The latest: "A mob of Muslims in Egypt attacked Christians on Friday after being stirred up by a sermon and distributed leaflets that informed them that Christians were planning to build a church without permission. Following a Muslim prayer meeting Friday, Christian homes and shops were set on fire and ten Coptic Christians were injured in clashes in the village of Bamha, about 15 miles south of Cairo, reported Agence France-Presse." "Under Egyptian law, no church can be constructed without a presidential decree. In constrast, the construction of mosques in Egypt is almost unrestricted." From The Religion of Peace.com

24. The good rabbi is 100% WRONG
Basic, mainstream Islam has one goal - global domination, period. It is the only major religion that teaches that the ends (world conquest) justifies the means (deceit, murder, false truces, kidnapping, brainwashing children, etc.). In basic Islam, there are 3 spheres of existence: Islam (territories already conquered), War (open war against the "infidels" - that is, the rest of the world), and Truce (a temporary state during which Islam must arm and prepare to go into the sphere of War against a land too strong to attack immediately). There is NO SPHERE OF PEACE IN ISLAM. CAIR is a PR front for terror. See the sites CAIRwatch and www.thereligionofpeace.com to learn their true agenda. They are nothing but a fifth column to spread Islamism in America. "Islamophobia" is an inane invention by terror apologists to play the victim. Fear of global Islam is a normal reaction of civilized people against barbarity, plain and simple. Even peace-loving less-religious Moslems are afraid of this reborn militant Islam.... just look at how many of them are dying daily in Islamic areas at the hands of their so-called "brothers". Fear of Islam is right and unfortunately the Rabbi is dead wrong.

25. Darfur = Muslims killing Christians
by the thousands. And nobody reports it so, not even Ynet. People falsely say it is genocide but that means one race killing another. This is black on black violence. This is Muslims murdering Christians. Plain and simple. Share your values with Darfur, Rabbi. Don't ever equate the sinless Jesus Christ with Muhammed who had sex with a NINE YEAR OLD GIRL and dared to call it marriage. Jesus also never slit throats for a living.

Don't blame CAIR. They tell you what they believe, which is that US values are inconsistent with Islam's. Blame US press and gov't which blindly allow CAIR to claim to speak for Muslims instead of seeking out and enouraging true moderates.
