1. Some Self-Criticism Is In Order.
Terry ,   Eilat, Israel   (05.13.07)
The mayor should examine the role of haredim in making Jerusalem an unattractive place to live for many Jews. While certainly not the only factor, it's high on the list.
2. hehehe
(05.13.07)
No one (almost) recognizes J'lem as a capital of Israel and they still insist, they will insist untill they get Abu Ter as a mayor. ahaaaa re-unification allek, this is what we call IsraBluff
3. The Arabs of Jerusalem
Chaya ,   Bat Yam   (05.13.07)
They don't want to live under 'palestinian' rule. They see what is going on in Gaza and they want none of that!
4. Are all E.Jerusalemites Hamas?
Ahmad ,   Jerusalem   (05.13.07)
The remark that mayor Lupolianski made is very dangerous and ill-intended! He wishes to pront in the minds of the Israeli society that al East Jerusalemites are affiliated with Hamas which is not true by any means. Stereotyping an entire community like this is not ethical as well since the mayor is supposed to be neutral in serving all the residents of Jerusalem which, as all mayors before him, he is not (Just visit both parts of Jerusalem to discover for yourself)!!!!!!! Stope this crazy campaigns against East Jerusalemites and treat them on equal basis as they are NOT Hamas and their NOT the enemy! They are living there for generations now, remember?
5. Do wat u gotta do to be the majority in ur capital city
TTT ,   Melbourne, Australia   (05.13.07)
If the Jews want to preserve their city, then they should encourage more property investment for young couples. I think any capital city of a country should contain the majority of the nation's demographic makeup. The alternative would be to wait for the Palestineans to actually DO SOMETHING constructive with what they have in Gaza, so all the Arabs in Jerusalem would migrate there. But of course, that's just asking too much.
6. All Jews will come to Zion...
Gidi ,   Jerusalem, Israel   (05.13.07)
and then the demographics will mean nothing like they always meant nothing. Just come, another million or so, back to your homes, and it's an easy victory for us. Even if demographics are lower, we can always rule, Israeli flag will rise high.
7. #3, you're wrong
Talk Back   (05.13.07)
They suffer repression on a daily basis, starting from traffic lights which keeps them stuck in jams to allow all the jews from neibouring settlements to come in easily... ending at unpaved streets, having to pay extra for garbage collection and of course no construction permissions. This is also why they abstain from voting for the J'lem municipality. J'lem (east) is socially and economically a part of the west bank, and the situation in Ramallah is sometimes even better than in some places in E. J'lem. Stop comparing everything to Gaza.
8. Jerusalem and demographcis
yosef ,   Jerusalem, Israel   (05.13.07)
Mr Mayor the solution is simple: urban planning and quality affordable housing. The more we encourage high luxury homes the less chance you have of keeping average middle class Jews of remaining. Also, it is time to declare Jerusalem the capital of Israel and instruct embassies to move here.
9. Cant u get more racist?
Ali ,   Lebanon   (05.13.07)
racist to full extent. Read the line "removing Arab neighborhoods from the city's municipal area...". Am sure the israeli leaders will come up with a better solution just like in the past, ship them off to jordan and egypt. Too bad u cant take them to lebanon this time.
10. to # 4
Yosef ,   Jerusalem   (05.13.07)
hey Ahmed! do you remember a vote that took place 2 years ago? the majority of east jerusalem voted for HAMAS! so if you want to say that they all dont support them fine but the fact still remains that the majority do support HAMAS!
11. jersualem
sas ,   israel   (05.13.07)
ohlmert did NOTHING for Jeruslam as mayor except neglect it. do you really believe that he will do something now??????????? then he was only interested in his future. now he is ony interested in his chair. SAD.
12. #8 is right! as is #1
rpc ,   modiin, Israel   (05.13.07)
For sure, the Haredim scare off the secular from Jerusalem, as does the real estate scene. Reinvesting in a revitalized "downtown" central Jerusalem, DECREASING the borders of the city and instructing foreign nations that Jerusalem is the capital of Israel where embassies MUST be located is definitely the way to go. Now, if we can move past that and start attracting some dot coms to the area...
13. Advise to Lupolianski
gabriela ben ari ,   jerusalem   (05.13.07)
As I wrote a few days ago in a similar blog in YNET, Mr Mayor: pay attention and LOWER real state prices in Jerusalem. Prices are unaffordable by any standard for any "regular" israeli. Young couples move to Beitar, Efrat, Adam, Maale Adumim, Jerusalem is simply unaffordable. And still people commute daily- so DO SOMETHING AND FAST Demography is dictated by prices the lower the prices the higher the Jewish population- and please don't say you can't do anything to help reverse this trend Quality large appartments (for lage jerusalem families) are needed in the capital. If government does not regulate on some level - housing projects and potential buyers - well then live to the concequences
14. Jerusalem--Eternal Capital City
Brod ,   USA   (05.13.07)
Jerusalem is the Eternal Capital City of Israel since ancient tiime. Israel's great King David ruled in Jerusalem. "Thus David the son of Jesse reigned over all Israel. And the period that he reigned over Israel was forty years; seven years he reigned in Hebron, and thirty-three years he reigned in JERUSALEM." 1Chronicles 29:26-27.
15. Solution: East Jerusalem West Jerusalem
mark ,   usa   (05.13.07)
16. Face it...
Joshua ,   Jersey City, U.S.A.   (05.13.07)
...if Israelis want a Jerusalem that is Jewish majority, they will have to cede the Arab portions of the city to Palestine. The Jerusalem issue is a microcosm of the Eretz Yisrael issue. Israel can claim all the land but not have a Jewish state, or a state without all the land. This has been an issue since Ben-Gurion faced it. One other thing. Settlers in remote portions of the West Bank who think that they are fulfilling the Zionist mission may want to reconsider whether it's a good idea to spread themselves so thin. Those settlers should focus on the big prize, Jerusalem, and leave the settlements and move to the capital.
17. Impossible to predict
Meir ,   Beit Shemesh   (05.13.07)
It is impossible to predict. Could anyone have predicted 41 years ago, what happened in fact 40 years ago. Our prophets of doom are just playing into the hands of Hamas by such statements, showing we are panicing, instead of just continuing to build, have families settle, and just live in Israel and in Jerusalem. Less talk, more action.
18. Jihad includes demographic jihad
bob ,   potomac md   (05.13.07)
If Israeli Jews don't play their cards right--they will end up like Lebanon's Crhistians. Jihad takes many forms--military (just one form) as well as economic and demographic--as we see in Europe--. Multicultrualism and self-loathing are apparent in the writings of isreali ilberals, who are in denial that Israel is one of the key fronts in the worldwise resistance against jihad. Unless we all resist--our fate is sealed---dhimmitude and and enslavement and death. Isalm's political ambitions should be treated in the same way that the allies treated the political aspects of Shinoto following WW II.
19. In your dreams
tOM ,   BSAS,ARGENTINA   (05.13.07)
YOU HAVE ACHIEVED NOTHING SINCE 1948. NOTHING. 12 YEARS?'' JAJAJJA WHAT JOKE! LONG LIVE ISRAEL
20. Difficult Alternatives
Tracy W   (05.13.07)
So as not to get censored again, I can't be more explicit, but the situation regarding the percentages of population in Israel are so alarming, that it is time to rethink issues concerning residency. Israel is fighting for its life. There are difficult decisions that may have to be taken very soon. It's a matter of looking at the only two alternatives: do we want to save Israel or do we want to watch it dissolve little by little until there's nothing left but just another Arab country with a dwindling Jewish minority. Will Israel do what it must do, or will it continue trying to please the world at a heavy cost to itself..
21. Your Extremist Islamic Jihad is just a air bag before

22. Divine Herald
ben ,   singapore   (05.13.07)
I put it this way .." jerusalem is like a weighty stone that will cut or lacerate ANYONE who attempts to dislodge it. G-d lodged Jerusalem and the Children Of Yisrael are the air to the throne of the City of David. No one can DISLODGE Jerusalem. Jerusalem is the center of Hashem's heavenly kingdom. Look at Isaiah 8 :4 which affirms that jerusalem is a aprominent place in stting up the Kingdom of G-d. Zec 12 is both canonical text for Jews and a Divine Herald. You CANT TOUCH JERUSALEM NOR YOU CAN TAKE HER AWAY FROM THE JEWS - In MY G-d I TRUST !THIS IS THE TORAH TRUTH . I PROCLAIM AGAIN and AGAIN from the HOUSE OF YISRAEL : - ) DIVINE EDICT, DIVINE HERALD : - ) DIVINE MERCY ; - ) Divine Justice : - ) Jerusalem is Divine Demograph of the Kingdom Of The Lrd G-d of Yisrael of the people of Yisrael : - )

24. 'demographic shift' or occupier it all depends
John ,   Raleigh, USA   (05.13.07)
Is it not interesting that when HAMAS moves in it is called a demographic shift and when Jews settle in the west bank they are called occupiers.
25. If Olmert Stays, I Give It Much Less Than 12 Years!
David ,   Marietta USA   (05.13.07)
Say what you like about arabs, they are very, very patient people.
26. The Palestinians will conquer Jerusalem for peace
Ahmed ,   Cairo Egypt   (05.13.07)
because if no solution is found to make Jerusalem a city for two states, this land will never see peace
27. 2 Yes, true just like no one recognizes Bethlehem
freedom ,   canada   (05.13.07)
