31. The Psywar Perspective
Rowan Berkeley ,   London, England   (05.14.07)
Most Israelis appear to realise that a military clique runs the government from behind the scenes, which removes the possibility of meaningful knesset enquiries. The psywar perspective is not about what is true or false in itself, but about the mass psychological effect. From this point of view ihe Israeli public as a whole is much stronger if it defies the taboo on questioning the veracity of army communiqués.
32. racism is legitimate and, what about Iran's MK
Doron Katz ,   Tel Aviv   (05.14.07)
I dont recall Iran's jewish MK being allowed to go to israel, or talk against Iran and side with America to wipe iran off the face of the world. Or any other arab country allowing jewish mks. Fact is, we dont need arab mks or constituents, racism is what makes Israel exist and strong, and should be fostered
33. Better to Reel a Spy In than to Arrest Them - !
Reuven ,   Israel   (05.14.07)
There is reason to believe Bishara had access to classified info - because the Shin Bet would have ALLOWED Bishara to access classified info to see what he would do with it --- and also to feed false information to the enemy. Now there's an arrest warrant for him because of what he apparently did with the classified information (giving it to Israel's enemies). Bishara figured out that he was set-up, and he fled the country to avoid a trial. Amnon Levy obviously doesn't understand that spies and traitors aren't handled like common criminals, because it's more useful to manipulate them to feed false information to the enemy, and to follow the trail of the information to see where it winds up.
34. Where Did Ynut Find This Idiot?
Dan Friedman ,   NYC USA   (05.15.07)
Berserkely, CA & the esteemed University of Wollongong, to name two.
35. Amnon Levy knows quite a lot about ...
Marie-France ,   Brussels, Belgium   (05.15.07)
Amnon Levy knows quite a lot about the Rabin assassination. That is what allows him to declare that the Shin Bet is unreliable. He is right of course. The Shin Bet is unreliable, and the day the Shin Bet's role in the Rabin assassination will be revealed, the country will be shocked. Concerning Bishara however, the Shin Bet is probably right.
36. Don't trust someone who starts an article with to tell you
Carlos Murphy ,   Red Hill Australia   (05.15.07)
Never trust anyone who starts a sentence with, to tell you the truth. Does that mean that all other times they are lying.
37. it is any citizen
suha ,   jerusalem   (05.15.07)
if this shin suspect of any one they may destroy its life or its freedom or its security .. itis in the name of the security of all .. sometimes it is a lie and in all times it is only suspection // this is the truth which many know ,seldom to tell becouse they afraid to be under suspection so they will lost their freedom or their security or may be their life .. so when the man want to tell he needs courage // and i think azmi has this courage to tell ,it is the only story
38. To bad we had to let Pelosi back after her Syrian trip :-)
Stewart ,   USA   (05.15.07)
39. traitor
rooney ,   Jerusalem   (05.15.07)
He may have been an elected official but he went to enemy countries (eg syria) on more than one occasion and advocated the destruction of the country in which he was elected (by a traitorous segment of the public). That is treason enough.
40. Try different approach to Arabs.
Hugo ,   Israel   (05.15.07)
Weighing Amnon Levy’s arguments – in Bishara case - transferring them into facts of life which would bring to the following picture: A) Retain the goal of the Jewish State of Israel including the “Hatiqwa” as a spiritual value. As a consequence of the following B) and C). B) State of Israel has slightly over 7 million inhabitants of which are closely to 20% Arabs, Christians of other countries and in addition a considerable number of non Jewish parts of immigration couples. Furthermore the Jewish part consist of more than 50% secular people. Consequence is that nearly 3 quarter of Israel inhabitants are living in the present state of Israel. - The Jewish State of Israel is an ideal but for the foreseeable time not obtainable. C) Concerning the fact that about 1/5 of the Israel inhabitants are Arab of different origins are being considered of political / security unreliable stature on account of their religious and family ties to the surrounding Arab countries. To enable an acceptable nonbeligerant life for people in Israel and those across Israel borders a positive approach to these 20% is urgently needed. They have to be made into real Israeli citizens to provide at more distant times a possible bridge for understanding and accepting Israel as part of the Near East. Of course the first, real strong efforts must come from the Jewish side in the form of education and including them in the general life picture of the State. This will wetten the appetite of this group to achieve finally complete equality as full citizen of the State of Israel. Patience is needed and this “plan is to be nourished along.” - Time will tell.
41. Bishara traitorous activities
Steve Katz ,   USA   (05.17.07)
THere's more than enough public information to convict Bishara of crimes against the state (of Israel). He went to visit enemy states without permission AND against Israeli law. It's about time that the Arabs were held to the standards of the law.
42. Thank you for taking sense....
Richard Silverstein ,   Seattle, USA   (05.22.07)
Thank you for writing this article despite yr doubts & hesitations. Many of us who have observed this case feel the same way. It stinks. It reeks of intimidation & a hidden agenda. And it will ultimately fail. No Israeli Arab will be intimidated by this ploy. And BIshara some day will return to Israel & a heroes welcome. Then the Shin Bet will have created a monster they hoped to slay.
