Why do Christians of whatever ilk "blame" Jews for killing Jesus? Technically, the Romans, after they had convicted him, could have gotten some Visigoth, Gaul or a Pict to do the crucifying, but why would they have? I saw the interview on MEMRITV.COM I lived in Egypt and in general the Copts were not as antisemitic as the Lebanese / Syrian Christians who were the worst.

The Coptic leader is a dummy who has never actually read the New Testament or has no understanding of it. Somehow the Coptic leader misses the part about Jesus being the Paschal Lamb. Now what is supposed to happen to the Paschal Lamb! The reference to Jesus as the "Paschal Lamb" can only mean one thing - Jesus is supposed to die. Can it really mean anything else? The New Testament also states unequivocably that Jesus is dying in the place of all sinners! And that God loved mankind so much that he gave his only son. So Jesus' death has a purpose and is effectively the sacrifice of the Paschal Lamb according to the New Testament authors.

If I'm not mistaken, the "history" presented in the New Testament (which is, of course, largely myth) claims that Christ was executed by the imperial Roman rulers at the instigation of indigenous religious authorities, presumably Jews. This is in itself not necessarily an anti-Semitic claim. It may be taken as historical fact, or it may reflect a propagandistic bias on the part of the early Christian writers. Anti-Semitism was introduced when the Roman Catholic church subsequently spread the blame to all Jews for all time. Now we learn that some Coptic Christians share the same benighted view. I shall remain a benevolent and bemused atheist, thank you.

The difference between the Catholic & Coptic churches is that the Pope isn't at risk for being jailed and tortured by Italian leaders. Copts have complained repeated to the UN about Egypt's bias and often about the involvement of their clergy, who help the Muslims in order to hold onto their power. In the New Testament, the writng is that the Romans killed Jesus at the instigation of the Jewish Priethood. In the Talmud, Jesus is referred to as Amalek. The question for the jews, which I have never seen answered, Is " What did Jesus do that was so bad that the Jewish Priesthood wanted him dead???

First, Arabs Christian or otherwise can't be anti-Semitic because they are Semites as well. They can be anti-Jewish. Second, you have to realize that Arab Christians are in a difficult position. There are some who recognize Jesus as the Jewish Messiah who came for the forgiveness of sin for all, but these are the minority. It has always made me stop to think why Christians Palestinians side with the Muslims, seeing that the Muslim PAlestinians ki8ll and discriminate against the Christians. Yes, it was Romans who actually killed Ribi Yehoshua. But *way* beyond that, it is clear from the NT description that the Jews who called for his death, and his blood to be on them and their descendents (the critical point of misojudaic charges), were Sadducee kohanim (priests) in the Beit ha-Miqdash (Hellenized to "Temple"), *not* Pharisees (forbears of today's Orthodox Jews). Those familiar with Judaic history will realize the most critical point: that the kohanim (Sadducees) became corrupted shortly after B.C.E. 175 when a rabid Hellenist priest, Yehoshua (Hellenized to "Jason") Ben-Shimon II Ben-Tzadoq, enlisted the support of the foreign occupier, Syria (Antiochus IV Epiphanes), to displace his Torah-observant brother, Yekhonyah (Hellenized to "Onias") Ben-Shimon II Ben-Tzadoq, as Kohein ha-Jadol (High Priest). This marks the watershed between the last Torah-true Sadducee Kohein ha-Jadol (Yekhonyah Ben-Shimon II Ben-Tzadoq) and the Hellenist succession of Hellenist-Sadducee "High Priests" who followed his Hellenizing brother, Jason -- and the resulting split between the original Torah-true Sadducee kohanim (later "Essene" Sadducees) and the reform Hellenist-Sadducees who expelled the Torah-true Sadducee kohanim from the "Temple."
