Please look at the figures, a limp half-arsed resolution gets a total of 158 votes out of 12,000 members and these are people such as Sue Blackwell who are doing precious little "research" let alone with Israelis to start with. It is now the third time the same bunch of losers have tried this. First time they picked Passover, thereby guaranteeing no Jews, and when it was re-voted on it then it got overturned. Then they tried to use the last ever meeting of the predessor to this union to vote a vague "boycott" - and it expired almost as soon as it was voted on. Now they have a resolution calling for the branches to to "consider" the implications. Not exactly a boycott and YNET should be more accurate in their headlines which would be "just over 1% of UK lecturers willing to consider implications of links to Israel". The charge of anti-semitism is a very serious thing. Yet, not every condemnation of Israeli-committed atrocities is directed at 'semites" or Jewish people. On the contrary, we are in an era where states should not be congratulated on their single religion foundation (e.g. pakistan, saudi arabia, israel...etc) Sacred geography is an ancient belief that should not continue.. look at the modern world and how it serves as a melting pot. all races, all faiths.. this is what we should aspire to become.. Israel doesnot only contain jews... this should be always noted.. This boycott wants to exert pressure on the israeli govt in order to stop it form building the wall, separating people and continue the occupation of 1967 territories. We should be brought closer to a solution not distanced from one.
