1. Crime and Punishment
joe ,   debyshire.uk.   (05.31.07)
So,it took 6 years for him to get convicted;and he only got 4 years.Anyway,he'll probably appeal and get let off.
2. Lynch mob justice
Ilan ,   Ariel   (05.31.07)
The building in question was built a decade before the Pal Kal method was declared "unsafe", post-construction modifications removed floor supports as well. It is "feel-good vengeance" and not justice that motivates this sentence.
3. Harsh? for 23 deaths?
Dorothy Friend ,   Tel Aviv   (05.31.07)
"This is a harsh and disproportional punishment, but it matches the attitude of the judge, who was against Eli Ron from day one. I hope the Supreme Court will be open to listen to our claims in the case," he said." Well, it'll be less that 3 years if he does serve time - almost everybody who doesn't kill a guard gets 1/3 off for good behavior. The infamous "Polite Rapist" got 2/3 off for becoming a born again Jew.
4. To #2 Ilan
Lenny ,   Carmiel   (05.31.07)
It 6 years for this guy to get sentenced. I'm sure he got to say what you say in his defence, but his method was criminally stupid and failed in a number of other places, and was under suspicion at the time it was used at the Versailles. This negligent engineer, along with the others killed a lot of innocent people. He didn't get lynched but should have. He should be happy with what he got.
5. #2...what would serve justice?
DR ,   Florida, USa   (05.31.07)
Should we go after city officials, building inspectors, Legislators? The only way to serve justice here is to punish those who were negligent... they were trying to save some money by buiding shoddy structures and human beings lost their lives in the process. This is irresponsible and morally corrupt and these people have to pay.
6. Hey Lenny (Nr 4)
leon ,   Grand Rapids USA   (05.31.07)
How so you know that this method is criminally stupid ? PalKal has never, to my knowledge, been described in any news medium, and we only have opinions delineated, not fully reported. Nne of the readers responding know.
7. Shameful Scapegoat Verdict
Nicole ,   Israel   (05.31.07)
The Palkal method has been proven to be safe. This verdict means that other perfectly good buildings will be destroyed for no good reason, just because they were built using PalKal. The unscrupulous people who hung a 1 ton chandelier from the ceiling below this floor, and removed the columns that supported the floor were the criminals, they were criminally negligent , they caused the disaster and they were the ones who should have been punished, not Eli Ron. Such a disaster could occur when any building built by any method is abused and made unsafe by unscrupulous irresponsible people. A traditional floor would also collapse if its supports were removed. This is not a just verdict. The judge should have excused himself, he was not objective.
8. The wedding hall owners
Boaz   (06.01.07)
They were criminally negligent because apparently they saw that there was a problem with the floor and they added sand in the shallow part and repaved over the floor, which only added even more weight on the unsupported floor. This is a criminal action. At a wedding the week before, the father noticed there was a problem and reported it to the managers, who ignored it. Both these actions on top of the actions of removing the columns and adding the chandelier, show criminal negligence . There was awareness of the problem, and intentional covering it up.
9. a bit late, but dont you have any bodies controlling
eporue ,   europe   (10.14.11)
and supervising a construction ? in europe such steps have to be confirmed, approved by someone... who was this ? what about the architect ?
10. something wrong with your courts... jeez...
