1. Nice try Alex but...
Jeffrey ,   Boston, USA   (06.16.07)
...the way Abbas will forment more violence is to wait until the west showers him with 100s of millions in cash and then Abbas sends some to Gaza for "humanitarian assistance". Hence the trap for Israel and the west. What will Israel do then Alex, huh???
2. One Problem
David ,   Israel   (06.16.07)
This theory has a fatal flaw: the assumption that fatah's leadership have the practical ability to orchestrate such a plan. They lost in gaza because their forces wouldn't cooperate, and they might find hamas better prepared than they expect. What's more - it assumes Israel's leaders have the courage to step in, which has been dramatically lacking in the past several years. It may well be Israel's policy will be "do nothing."
3. BS
Israel   (06.16.07)
"So at this time, the Hamas victory is a military win. The movement has not captured the hearts of the Gaza street. It still does not have the street on its side". Then who the F#%^ voted for them?!?!
4. Try this scenario...
J. Johnson ,   Turks & Caicos   (06.16.07)
Hamas solidifies their hold on Gaza...disarms the various gangs and militias...ends quassam attacks on Israel..and gowes about building a viable and workable Palestinian state. Now wouldn't that scare the sh@t out of Israel.
5. Thel people of Gaza want Israel back!
Chaya ,   Bat Yam, Israel   (06.16.07)
6. Nonesense
John ,   Chicago   (06.17.07)
It seems this guy thinks that Hamas and Fatah gangs are fighting because of ideology. This is not true. They are fighting for money and property. Like gangs fight everywhere in the world.
7. terrorist leaders and their supporters.
yahn goodey   (06.16.07)
name any leader of any terrorist group/country in the m.e. and they all have this one thing in common(besides hating us with a purple passion)they couldnt care less about their own people no matter how many suffer or die-as long as the leaders get their way.iran/syria/hizballah/hamas/fatah all the same.their people are used as expendable pawns in a chess game that olmert/bush/un/and eu cannot comprehend how many moves they are behind in trying to figure out whats happening or what to do.its plain to any with common sense-israel is being surrounded by armies with one goal in common-to annhilate us-once and for all.
8. #4 Say, Mr Johnson you not related to Allan ,bcos U write
Alan ,   SA   (06.17.07)
the same type of Garbage that Allan Johnson spews out for BBC
9. #5 Chaya, you're right
enzo ,   london,uk   (06.17.07)
And those in the West Bank are terrified too! They want Israel in a.s.a.p.!
10. More Complex Than the Author Thinks
Dave Levy ,   Burbank. CA USA   (06.17.07)
No, no, no, Israel must not "go back" (reoccupy fully) either Gaza or the W. Bank. They would then be caught in an Iraqi type quagmire, where RPGs and Iranian supplied IEDs, would be the order of the day. This is an absolute mistake. Israel should: isolate the Strip, which it can do. Stop the smuggling at the border with Egypt. Control the main crossings with tanks if need be. Use those 5,000 IDF troops not being used in the strip to guard 8,000 tomato growing settlers with Med. views. Hamas is trying to tell the world that the one state solution (absent Israel of course) is still their goal, no matter Fatah and Abbas. This is a desperation move on thie part sort of a 2nd phase. They will do everything to unite with Hezbollah, Al Qaeda, Iran and Syria, maybe even make treaties. Israel will then have to act quickly, before Irans Revolutionary Guards take up permanent placements., and Syria moves in some forces. This is the Hamas goal. It's more complicated than the author thinks.
11. "Handle Gaza like South Lebanon" WONDERFUL
Daniel ,   Formerly Israel   (06.17.07)
So Israel should allow enemy forces to army and entrench themselves in Gaza as they're doing in south Lebanon; don't worry, they've been doing that for two years already.
12. The Hamas Pyrric Victory
Joseph Kaufman ,   Sunnyvale/Jerusalem   (06.17.07)
I'm astonished that under the cirumstances, Israeli political leaders feel the need to make humanitarian gestures to an organization that is pledged to Israel's destruction and the murder of jews for the sake of being jews. Let Hamas assume full responsibility for feeding the Gazans, making sure they have water and electrical power. Tax their supporters in the surrounding Arab states or in Iran to finance the Gazan's dealings in food and power. We owe Hamas NOTHING except bullets, bombs and mayhem. Let their knees buckle under the enormous responsibilities they have to their people now that they've seized control.
13. J Johnson, you are so dumb
Korem ,   New York, USA   (06.17.07)
If that scenario were to happen, Israel would be glad, not terrified, and peace would finally come in the region, but that won't happen, not in a million years. You think Hamas is some kind of loving organization..lol. How pathetic. And who are you to judge Israel's response to such a situation when she has never faced a week without an attack or threats of an attack or an attempted attack?
14. #4 We WISH - or perhaps you were joking?
Israel   (06.17.07)
The "Palestinian"s' lack of ability to thrive and create peace themselves has long predated the Jews' return to Israel, and is responsible for much of their hatred - resentment based on jealously and dependence. Our all-too-rare, but wonderful experiences of cooperation have showed us all we all can gain by individual internal strength.
15. gaza
leo solomon ,   nahariya   (06.17.07)
Is it concievable that Israel may have to ,take over in gaza to liberate the palestinians from Sharia oppression? How will the Palestinians like having their worldly pleasures stripped away.Having had a taste of western freedom and affluence under Israeli rule will they enjoy their trip into the distant past .
16. thank you
Fadi ,   Beirut   (06.17.07)
i am thanking here president Bush and olmert .. MR bush is trying very hard lately to have something happening at the pal-israeli front ..well he finally did .. with his no-action policy ..Hamas won the elections and with the continuation of his no-action or mis-action we have a seed of something very big ..a seed 10 times bigger than the one in the north .. the people in Israel should realize that sanctions will NOT work .. the people in the west bank will not sit and watch their brorhers and sisters in Gaza starving ..otherwise you will be paying the price .. your politicians should have mercy on you by now .
