As far as I know there isn't an English word for this Israeli dish. However, there's an Italian dish that has some similarity to shakshuka and it goes by the rather quirky name of "eggs in purgatory."

Oh yeah. Even as a vegetarian I get many "exciting culinary experiences" (along with other exciting experiences) in Israel. The ticket's already booked, can't wait to go again..
