Will they agree to work on the buses and at the leisure outlets? yes? Then go man, go.
2. Then they should stay at home, and not prevent others...
The Doc ,   Haifa, Israel   (06.27.07)
...from spending Shabbat as they see fit. There is no reaon in the world that somebody should tell (or God forbid FORCE) somebody else to stay at home and not travel, buy, or have other activities just because they think that they are the emissaries of God on Earth. The last time they tried it, Meretz and other "human rights" party gained strength and the religious parties went down to the rubbles where they still are today. If you, religious people, contemplate another "religious putsch" then consider this - you will increase the power of the anti-Zionist Leftists and Liberals who will gladly bend over and kiss Muslim backsides just to be patted on the back. Are you ready for the tradeoff?

What was the real purpose of this survey? Most secular Israelis I know work 6 days a week, and would love to have both buses and malls open! Many of us work long hard hours and Sat is the only time we have to shop for groceries at places like Tiv Tam that saw the need for people to go to the supermarket then. Other have only sat the only day when they can take their kids to the mall for new school stuff or clothes that are needed because kids quickly grow out of them. Buses are needed to get the people from place to place who work for companies that donot give them a car to use. So stop the BS Once and for all and deal with the needs of the many secular citizens of this country and stop doing what the religious minority dictates all the time!

If Sunday were a day off with shopping available ----- wait a second. If shopping is available, who's working in the stores? Who's driving the buses? Clearly, MANY people are working. When do they shop? The answer is, there's time. Stores are open late in the evening. Malls are open afternoon and evening. Buying school clothes for your kids can be done in the afternoon or evening. Making Sunday a week-end day for those lucky enough to not have to work will play havoc with the economy. Maybe we need a "shopping day" or "family day" once every other month. (I know someone who looks forward to election day which is a day off for her since voting takes 10 minutes and she has the rest of the day.) Shabbat as a day of rest gives most people (except medical personnel, police, firemen, and a few others) a real day off. BARUCH HASHEM!

Those who are working on Shabbat , have an other day off , so they can go out for shopping . That's one , secondly , they most likely have a better pay for working this day . People go to work for money , not for pleasure , and some more shkalim are welcome .
6. working on shabbat is detrimental
johanna ,   tsfat   (06.27.07)
to family life, the klal as a whole and individuals in particular. all the best psychologists are now saying that in today's modern world we need a day with no shopping, no tv, no phones, no computers etc. just to be human. ie something like shabbat. well we have shabbat already. :) what we need here in israel is a sunday off as well. so lets have a half day on friday...as many people do.. and a free sunday as well as shabbat. and let the free sunday be for museums, the beach, entertainment generally etc. if people want to shop on this free sunday .. is that entertainment ? then let the workers be paid accordingly, and let us keep shabbat as shabbat. and on this free sunday we can all meet together, religious and secular on the beach, at the museums, on a hike or whatever... and maybe even at the mall.:)
7. what about schools?
mike ,   israel (formerly usa   (06.27.07)
i think that much would be solved if the schools would only be in session only 5 days a week. that would create problems for those working who have children, but that would be corrected over time. this system of 6-day-a-week classes here in israel really has nothing positive about it that i can see. and being a teacher here has to be the WORST job on the planet.

So only to work 4 and a half days ? Most business close early on Friday , you know this . And the schools ? They have already not much hours a week .
9. Shabbat
Yossi ,   Levittown, PA, USA   (06.27.07)
Unless people work 24 hours/day of the work week, there is ample time to shop without doing so on Shabbat. BUT, my main comment is this: If you're going to print the results of a "poll" or study, print the sample size as well. Data from 500 people is one thing, from 5000 quite another, in terms of validity.

Charles go and argue with the real problem makers ! Its people like you that have made Israel into the state its in today!! Its the Shabbat that has kept us for thousands of years not your liberal attitude and your blind hatred for all things Jewish. Shame on you!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

If i have a blind hatred for all things Jewish , that's at least a lie , You are certainly blind . Does your dog read my tb's ? Sorry , i can't write with braille on internet . Try to find someone who can read correctly all my tb's , and translate them in a language your small brains [ if you have any ] can understand

It is kind of ironic that on the same page of this article promoting the desecration of the shabbat ,there is an advertisement for artwork depicting moshe rabbeinu on mount sinai carrying the tablets stating ,remember the shabbos day to keep it holy. HOW TRAGIC.
