A drug addict child is one you love and want to help, as is a gay child. Those who say that gays are born that way are just plain wrong. They may find that in their society they have a predeliction for GLBT relationships, but they aren't genetically gay. And what about people who are genetically male or female and the GLBT crowd thinks it's okay to physically "change" their gender. Why aren't they male or female if that's the way they were born? I'm a little confused as to who is making what point in your dialogue. First, just because consenting adults do something does not make it right. It may be that it is not something that can be made illegal, but it may be that it is not socially acceptable. Binge-drinking, as long as one doesn't drive or commit a crime is legal, but not socially acceptable, and one certainly would not start a binge-drinking PRIDE movement or have a parade. Still the drinkers may enjoy it together and be consenting adults (remember college days?). By the same token, their inability to control it may depress them as may the reaction of the greater society. If they are alcoholics, we don't accept that they are "born this way" and that it is okay. We, as a society, try to change their behavior, as difficult as the process may be sometimes. If it were your child who is binge-drinking, you'd still love him but surely would do all you can to normalize his destructive and anti-social behavior. Finally, as to why anyone would want to choose a lifestyle that provokes hostility? This is a rather common choice. The hostility of the greater society creates a very strong bond among those who feel oppressed and different and it can be very satistying. Regarding binge drinking , they certainly cause troubles , and even if they do'nt drive , they are a danger on the streets . I have seen enough of them in the early sunday mornings hours .
