WHAT?? Give Hamas a chance - have you lost your mind? Give them a chance to kill more Jews? No thank you!!
32. Re: Give Hamas a Break......No Way !
Cesco ,   Canada   (07.05.07)
"Hamas is a vicious, terrorist bunch who kill indiscriminately, men, women and children"... I guess killing men women and children is not the problem you are pointing at, but, the "vicious" part of it. I'm saying that because guess who else kills men, women and children: - americans in Iraq and Afghanistan - nato in afghanistan - israelis in the occupied territories - russians in Chechenya - Sudanese in Darfur - ...etc. Not the same thing? I knew you'd say that ...Think again.
33. Re: Hamas - Jerry in Atlanta
Cesco ,   Canada   (07.05.07)
Question 4 you, dear Jerry: How many innocent israelis have Hamas killed in 2007? Now, how many innocent palestinians have been killed by the israelis in 2007? Please, get back to me ... we'll start from there
34. Smoking Weed?
Mary Roberts ,   USA   (07.05.07)
Look, whoever wrote this article needs to put down the crack pipe. Dialogue does NOT work with people who are funcitonally fixed,or with madmen taught from infancy to hate. Sometimes those who are members of the intelligencia are unable to understand "the street", for the bridge from cerebral fantasy to the facts on the ground are immense. This poor dear needs to take the rose colored glasses off, or maybe get another job.
35. An intelligent article, laying out all the possibilites.Hamas
lakshmi   (07.05.07)
has brought law and order to Gaza, they show signs of compromise. They had already done that with their formation of the Unity Government and if israel is serious about final status talks they have to accept Hamas' presence.A CNN poll done yesterday shows that the Fayyad government's popularity in the WB is 13% and Haniyeh's is 51%.The Palestinians won't accept a truncated state. And,as the article points out a hudna may help Hamas to realise its stated goals:self determination, evolution of civil society, modernity, economic development, access to free markets etc,(See Ahmed Yousef's article 'Engage with Hamas'in Washington Post,June 20,2007).He is Haniyehl's Political Advisor.
36. Please Stop playing one with the other. every now and then
Simon Mohammed ,   Falls Church, VA USA   (07.05.07)
And also think about a lasting final deal with the Palestinian not Movement by name. It is time to Cut a deal with the Palestinian "1967" Abbas the elected president and the movement should go under his order. and more then that a better deal with the Arab word/muslim one. what this scare? because it is so simple and no one had the simplicity to look at this way. Put the Arams down and start enjoying life facing human and develpement challenges. Thank you and good luck
37. To all who want a dialougue...
DR ,   Florida, USA   (07.05.07)
Have you not learned anything from the past few decades. I am talking back to WW2 when England signed a peace trreaty with Hitler. Are you still that naive??? Hamas does not want peace with Israel!!! Get it through your thick skulls. They want a Palestinian state to replace Isrel and they say this all the time. Why don't you believe them? There have been enough (too many) chances for them to make peace and try to live like civilized neighbors, BUT, they always shoot themselves in the foot. Israel needs to think about Israel, not Hamas. Do whatever it takes to make people safe and end terror...that's it!!!
38. Cheese to Mice?
Lou ,   New York   (07.05.07)
As a veteran negotiator, I can tell you, in my humble opinion, that giving in to Arab religious terrorists whose only interest is in wiping out Israel and the Jews, is mass suicide. The only avenue these fanatic murderers understand and respect is militant force. The only reason they want a hudna is because their leaders are being wiped out. Negotiation with fanatics that want to annihilate our people is absolutely useless and dangerous. We have a golden opportunity to get rid of some miserable scumbags and this guy wants to negotiate. I say, continue to get rid of thev Hamas leadership and put in leaders that we can negotiate a true calm. Peace will never happen with the Arabs. Just not realistic.
39. End Israeli retreat forever!
Chaim   (07.05.07)
Leftists like Dror Zeevi possess an endless capacity for deluding themselves. Israel has suffered far more than enough from their lunacy. Coddling terrorists, retreating from our land, putting our faith in worthless paper signed by terrorists. This sick conduct has brought rockets and terror to our cities and caused tens of thousands of our people to be maimed and murdered. Every single Israeli retreat has been a total disaster. This is our land to defend, love, build and massively settle forever.
40. #39 - Chaim - Very well said!

41. #12 Hams charter
(07.05.07)
do you mean that Hamas has a constitution like any democratic institution. Then, why calling them terrorists? Start studying what is wrong with the other party.
42. To Cesco
Jellybean ,   Chicago   (07.05.07)
How many Arabs will kill their own? When they Hamas and Fatah have no respect for human life..they kill their own and then hide behind unarmed women. men and children.. Please, get back to me...we'll start from there
43. Lakshmi
Jellybean ,   Chicago   (07.05.07)
How?? Hamas does not even recoginize Israel's right to exist. Both Hamas and Fatah can not even control their own people..instead you have militias all over the place..acting as a "militia of the week" nobody takes the PA government seriously because their words are empty and their actions are always opposite of what they say.
44. #39
Gary ,   USA/Israel   (07.05.07)
You are totally right. Israel must go on the offensive against the terrorists. And not just a little bit here, or there: invade Gaza in force, and get rid of them. Unless that happens, they will continue with their murderous ways. Why doesn't everyone believe them when they say they want to eliminate us, instead of hiding heads in the sand?
45. #33 Cesco - Wrong Question!! How many did Hamas try to kill?
meir elazar   (07.05.07)
Cesco, Your premise is totally faulty. The questions are: How many Israelis did Hamas try to kill and how many Palestinians did Israel try to kill? HAMAS remains committed to Israel's destruction and heavily engaged in terrorist actions to that end. But fortunately they are not successful due to Israel's major success at counter-terrorism. The containment measures are working to minimize infiltrations, transport of suicide bombers along with explosives and weapons. The targetted assasinations OF TERRORISTS AND THE LEADERS OF TERRORIST ORGANIZATIONS keeps them in hiding and adversely affects their ability to carry out terrorist attacks. It also eliminates terrorists. However, due to population density and the fact that the terrorist deploy from amongst civilian populations, hospitals, schools, and mosques; the terrorist jeapardize the civilian population and invite collateral damage. While Israel has killed bystanders, it was not their objective and efforts have been made to minimize this (e.g. DIME, operational changes, etc.) It may also be noted that Gaza gets its water supply and electricity from Israel. If Israel wanted to hurt civilians, this would not be difficult. On the other hand HAMAS has done nothing - ABSOLUTELY NOTHING - to prevent loss of innocent Israeli lives. Finally, if we saw what HAMAS did to FATAH in Gaza, one can only imagine what they would do to Israelis give the chance.

47. Golden opportunity and time to finish off HAMAS
meir elazar   (07.06.07)
Never have the prospects of dealing a deadly blow to terrorism and promoting peace been greater. than since HAMAS made a catastrophic blunder. HAMAS's coup in Gaza against FATAH actually backfired. HAMAS govt evicted from the govt. Everyone regrouped to recognize and support FATAH. Moderate Arab nations dumped FATAH. Millions of dollars are being directed to Abbas which will allow him to pay salaries of govt workers and bolster the economy. Hopefully there will be investments in the infrastructure and improvements to the quality of life. All of these improvements may help advance peaceful/non-belligerent relations with Israel with the hopes that the PALs would not want to regress to previous difficult situation. But most of all HAMAS and Gaza posed a serious problem in peace negotiation- the geographical disconnection between WB and Gaza along with how the "bridge" the two PA entities. Now the problem is a non-issue. Gaza has been effectively "removed" from the equation. Gaza has always got the short end of the stick and this time is no different. They will have to watch their brothers' situation improve dramatical as they envy the improved economy and quality of life. If Gazans learn, they will dump HAMAS and then try to follow a course towards peace and abandon the terrorism. This picture may be optimistic with respect to Gaza but not unrealistic with respect to WB which is the most important issue today in order to move the peace process forward. In any case, the thesis of the author is reminiscent of Chamberlain giving Sudetenland to Hitler in exchange for world peace. We know what happened and to expect different from HAMAS is irresponsible.

50. Give Hamas A Grave
Civey ,   New York USA   (07.06.07)
I writer of this article is an absolute fool. Why in the world would any rational person opt for anything less than complete desrtuction of one's sworn enemy? Even the Bible says about the Cananites "Do not let even one of them to remain alive". I say Amen to that. Hamas Delecta Est.
51. #47 - Typo should read "Arab Nations dumped HAMAS"
meir elazar   (07.06.07)
52. #50 Civey is taking the torah out of context
(07.06.07)
Civey says:"Even the Bible says about the Cananites "Do not let even one of them to remain alive". I say Amen to that. Hamas Delecta Est. " abdulla: What Civey misses is that the torah commandments were given to the children of yisra'el and not to the state of isreal, and that the palisitinians are not canaanites. For all Civey knows there are children of yisra'el among the palisitinians, as well as among isrealis. And given that the cannanites were not wiped out, it ispossible that there are canaanites among isrealis. So keep the torah quotes out of this conflict, unless in the context of promoting the kind of peace that saves lives.
53. Are you insane?
Eric ,   Pittsburgh, USA   (07.06.07)
How do you work with a group that has placed the destruction of Israel in their mission statement? They were given MILLIONS in farm equipment and land, but they have destroyed them. Israel should relearn how to fight and destroy the entire PA and HAMAS, since they are both their enemies. Quit being so stupid and believing that they will live peacefully with you!!
54. Drooling idiots already had their chance

Does "Oslo" ring a bell? Dror Zeevi has short term memory loss.
55. Give Hamas a Break.....Why I hate Liberals !
Bobsplace ,   Boonies, Texas, USA   (07.06.07)
The situation of Hamas In Gaza reminds me of the Prison Gangs in Pelican Bay (toughest prison in US). They all control their little areas, they have their leaders (shot callers), they all are killers and rapist; but they aren't going anywhere outside the walls (of Gaza). The Man (Israel) totally controls what happens to to them in the near and far term. And Like the prisoners in Pelican Bay, Hamas has gotten themselves into the Gaza mess. Hamas dug its own grave. Treat them like convicts. They surely qualify......
56. Our taxes pay the salary of this Hamas spokesman
Beth Landau ,   Tel Aviv, Israel   (07.07.07)
Taxpayers shouldn't be required to pay his salary. If universities want to preach ridiculous Pro-Hamas propaganda for political agendas, they have a right to do so, but when they confiscate money from taxpayers to fund such fanatical left-wing rhetoric, and dress it up as objectivity, they lose their credibility in the eyes of the majority of Israelis. Which explains why only a tiny minority of Israel's population considers itself leftist. After all, their party Meretz has not gotten more than 5 seats in over a decade..Says alot, doesn't it? :-)

59. #57 PAL - Ma Inta Mazubut, Ma Intum Bidkum E'Salaam
meir elazar   (07.08.07)
#57 PAL - Ma Inta Mazubut, Ma Intum Bidkum E'Salaam Sorry PALy but you are definitely wrong. It is the PALs who initiated the terror against us nearly 100 years ago with the massacres of Jews in 1920,1929, 1936, etc. We have tried to lived in peace and you slaughtered us and collaborated with the Nazis (e.g. Haj Amin Al Husseini) aspiring for our total destruction. This is still the cornerstone of HAMAS' charter and the only thing that the warring Hamulot have in common - war and hatred of Jews/Israelis. You initiated hijackings, planting of bombs in public places, driveby shootings, stabbing, and suicide bombings. As a result we have devised very effective but also very punishing counter-terror measures. We like in a flourishing economy leading high tech innovations around the world while you live in poverty in slums. You invest all your efforts in destruction and terror while we focus on building and positive social and economic growth while also creating new innovative defensive methods and technologies. Unfortunately, PALs/Arabs/Moslems are not very good at understanding cause and effect relationships and are not able to comprehend that it was the terrorist actions committed by PALs that resulted in the Fence, roadblocks, border crossings, incursions, targetted assasinations, etc. You reap what you sew. Too bad. When you figure it out and change your course from terror, maybe you might have a glimmer of hope. Ma'ah Salame Meir (Nur fi Lurha el-Arabi)
