31. #26, why?
Danny   (07.11.07)
Why would the fact he is Austrian make him an "anti-semite" or hater of Israel? I would say that as an Austrian - or German - that he is much, much more likely to be sensitive to Israel's concerns than say a Frenchman, a brit or an Irish man. Nothing I have read in this article strikes me as even vaguely anti-semitic or anti-Israel, rather I would say he has a rather contemptuous view of Syrians.
32. Syria's proxy, Hizballah, changed the rules first
Zvi   (07.11.07)
and Israel is clearly only responding to those changes. Of COURSE Israel is now patrolling outside the fence. Syria has explicitly said that it intends to repeat Hizballah tactics, which includes digging bunkers up to the edge. Idiotic UN guy is easily fooled, isn't he? Syria is counting on rockets to do the heavy damage, not tanks.
33. Syria
Jackie ,   ElReno   (07.11.07)
Sorry, but Assad told Isael to give up the Golan by peace or he will take it by a war .So if their is tension their then that is their , falt not Israel. And if they go to war then , Syrian will get what is coming to them , for alowing Hezbollah and others coming from their own country to hit Israel . A nd we all know that Syian has very good weapons , that came from Russia .And Assad said that they will hit Israel in Aug or Sept of this yr.
34. Why are critics of Isreal automatically branded antisemites
Brian Finnegan ,   Ireland   (07.11.07)
I really find it unbelievable that still every time somebody criticises the state of isreal or its actions are automatically a racist antisemite. Its just a pathetic attempt to avoid any real debate on the issues .
35. An expert
Victor ,   Toronto Canada   (07.11.07)
If this gentleman does not understand that antitank and antiaircraft missiles could be used in the offence, he had hit his level of incompetence when he was promoted to the rank of corporal
36. It was reported here 2 days ago
buphagus ,   ny,ny   (07.11.07)
Israel has gotten fair warning that Syria is agitated by what it says and its rearmament after waiting 30 years with no action on giving the land back; it seems pretty obvious that Israeli milltary movements indicates it will resist the transfer back. That just makes the Syrians more nervous, especially with so many of its citizens at now at risk having moved to the area. It looks like Syria will be forced to pay again and again attempting to get just this tiny sliver of land. Syria is being prevented from achieving its natural boundaries; , The Great Sea, Suez, Red Sea and the Gulf.
37. STOP THE COMPLAINING
DAN ,   USA   (07.11.07)
General should be ready to lead their forces to victory and not worried about rising escalations It seems in Israel today that it's Generals are often quoted worrying about everything but training and winning. Not a good sign. The same problem exists with American generals who have won a war since WWII.
38. 34 latest craze is to have real "Debates" on Israel Issues
Alan ,   SA   (07.12.07)
What is there to debate ,Mr Finnegan? Why dont you debate what your Muslim Heroes are doing For instance TODAY 11 July 1Bombs in Algeria 2Assaualt on Red Mosque in Pakistan 3Philipino Marines beheaded 4 Usual suicide bombs in Iraq 5Four African Al Quedas sentenced to40yrs in UK Need I give u more. Many killed in the above "issues" You dont want to debate if Ireland should exist . Your countrymen didnt want to debate Irish Independence in the 1920s so why debate Israel today. It IS anti jew tactics
39. #34, in what way is he criticising Israel?
Danny   (07.12.07)
it seems he is expressing an opinion. Some of it seems like nonsense - anti-tank and anti-aircraft being defensive - but otherwise he seems fairly thoughtful and not in slightest bit reflex anti-Israeli. I don't hear any "issues" raised here. In terms of Syria not wanting war, our deputy chief of staff agreed with him.

Waldheim was never involved with an Abu Graihb. Look yourselves in the mirror before posting such nonsense.

mannstein ,   USA   (07.12.07)
The USA won in WWII because the Russians took the brunt of the conflict. Had that not been the case the war might have ended quite differently.
44. Antitank , Antiaircraft missiles "Offensive"
Andrew ,   St. Catharines Canad   (07.12.07)
LOL , Just how can these weapons be considered "offensive". Most AA weapons systems are stationary and can only be used againest low flying aircraft and all these AT weapons are used by entrenched infantry to defend themselves againist advancing armor . The Israeli military has hundreds of offensive aircraft and thousands of offensive tanks. Its not Syria's fault that they can't used them effectively. The ghosts of 1967 and 1973 are dead.

don't embarass yourself. your lack of historical facts is shameful. ww2 was won by england and the usa mainly. it was english and us troops that liberated the camps and set first foot in germany and poland. shame of you! also, the russian army was not involved in AERIAL ATTACKS AND BOMBING. which really won the war anyway.
46. Israel up to old tricks again
Michael (UK) ,   Oxford UK   (07.12.07)
It is exactly the same story in regards to the Lebanon, daily violations of the border by Israel in the 5 years preceding the pre-planned and unprovoked attack on Lebanon. Any remaining doubts that Israel is, or was ever, interested in peace are quickly disappearing.
47. This guy is not an anti-semite
daniel   (07.12.07)
and Syria is no match for Israel
48. # 45
Livia   (07.12.07)
It is not a matter of shame, but a matter of facts. Stop talking about shame then you start seeing the facts. England and USA had no chance without the Russians. The Russians defeated Hitler first and with enormous sacrifices in human lives. When they were on the march to Berlin, only then, the race began. And it was the Russians who reached the bunker of Hitler first, too. Hitler's mistake was to fight on two fronts, and also to take on the "russian bear". No one ever succeded in that. Not even Napoleon. The winter is more then chilly there..

Alan wrote: "You dont want to debate if Ireland should exist . Your countrymen didnt want to debate Irish Independence in the 1920s so why debate Israel today." Sorry Alan trying to get my head around the comparison you allude to between Ireland of the 1920's & Israel & the Occupied Territories of today? I was under the impression the Irish people had actually freed themselves from the grips of a sometimes brutal occupier (black & tans etc..) & the Irish militias of the time did indeed resort to ambushes and other such 'terrorist strikes' against the occupying forces, however unlike certain armys of today women & children were not targeted... ...actually now that I think about it I do see the comparison - not the one you meant though I'd be thinking! And please don't slander me with the usual anti-semite slur, I believe everyone should have equal rights no matter religion or race...
50. @ 18 & 20
anon   (07.12.07)
@ 18 - are you completely crazy???, have you any idea what that site's about? @20 - Where do you get your news? - a bit of balance is always good - What about all the cluster bombs the IDF 'chucked into civilian houses' at the end of the war last Summer?
51. anti-something
Sara ,   US   (07.12.07)
The overall comments are either everyone is an anti-semite or a denier of some sort. Israel is at war with everyone! They have the most equipped army in the region. Wonder what would happen if the other sides were as well equipped? Peace?
52. #43 - Russian Brunt
Buphagus ,   NY,USA   (07.12.07)
Of course given the reputation of Joe S, you know he would have violated moral principals and launched his own German invasion. That would have meant a violation the treaty that he signed with Germany with G_d as his witmess. But Russia profitted before the German invasion from the invasion and partition of Poland in '39. Gaining the start of its east europe expansion and Russia profited from the welfare handout given by FDR, called Lend-Lease. All those American boys dying in the icy artic seas when their lend lease ships were torpedoed by Germany. Maybe the US would have dropped the Fatboy on Germany instead
