34. Funny, I mean sad, during the three weeks
in which we were punished for not being able to wait those extra few hours for Moshe to come down from har Sinai after he spent there 40 days and 40 nights. A golden Calf was set up - apropo inspiration of Erev Rav.
Now we waited for that book for years, and now those few hours till motsei Shabat seem eternal for many people here. Ridiculous, and may be we could wait till after tisha beav too to purchuse something so enjoyable. Oh! forgot that would be too much!....
Funny, I mean, sad the first set of tablets were smashed for the mere sin of NOT WAITING . So sad history repeats itself
On top it's the English version to be released, a large portion of Anglos are prettty frum in this country, so figure out. My guess is that people posting against the decision to postpone release for a few hours and avoid pandemonium are just doing it for no reason , my guess, they aren't agonizing over a half a day wait. ......

I happen to be from a European country - they have laws forbidding them to open shops on a Sunday and guess why. For historical reasons, since religion is something historical over there. Only provincial Israelis think keeping the 7th day holy is ridiculous.

36. Aviva , You proposed , so GIVE
How could i trust you ? To send you something , and then you will make it available to everyone , including my Email ? I can't trust you , you who do'nt believe others . It's not because you are an "alleged" religious "woman" that makes me have confidence in you .
Those two , Ishai and this other one , are only there to take money , bribes and so .
Now i see the way you talk , insults , first a liar , now stupid . This "intellectual" level is much too low for me . And i prefer to talk to HONEST people , you are not one of them .
I'm waiting for the name of your "alleged" brother and maybe also the place where you "allegedly" work , and "allegedly" give a hand to a man , who is a proffessional relation , what kind of profession ?

Shops in the UK are open from 10-4... because they realise that we have to provide what the people want. If you don't want to shop on a sunday then you don't have to...
anyway if you had read my post - you would have seen that the launch is at the weekend because kids don't have to get up for school in the mornign...

38. Shas should not be in the goverment at all
There is a clear conflict of religion and goverment here.
I want to buy something on Saturday and someone else wants to sell it on Saturday. This does not involve Eli Yishai in the least.
When people use religion to control the daily routine of others this is called oppression.
I don't purposefully sabotage the religious sector's efforts in living how they think is right and they should afford me the same courtesy.

40. good for him!
let's be honest - this is just a BOOK! Kids can't wait a few more hours to read a book? Ishai is absolutely right that we are not like every other country in the world, and we shouldn't try to act like it.

41. AM PM
well, I buy every friday night and staturday all day on AMPM supermarket and other 24 hours stores, restaruants and shops that are open those days.. are they being fined? no they are not, so why would they fine some shop over another for opening on shabbat???? its pretty ridiculouse how the ultra-orthodox sector has so much power in politics.

42. have a good Shabbat
Nobody forces anybody to go and buy the book on friday night. If you do not want that, stay home. Israeli politicians should stop enforcing religious behaviour on their citizens. This forces the same citizens to DAVKA eat pork and so on.

43. Too bad Hersel didn't promote Shabath observance
as a zionist virtue, as indispensable to the jewish state as the hebrew language. If he did there would be no debate today. Perhaps evangelical xtians should show isreal the way and start to observe the shabath and stop eating hazir, in addition to all the financial support that they give. Perhaps then respect for the shabath in the jewish state will improve.

44. it's just a book? #40
First it's just a book, then it's just a kippa, then it's just having to eat only kosher food, then it's just one hour a week at the synagogue.
It's got nothing to do with the fact that it's just a book. Selling this book or not has no practical effect on the ability of regious folk to practice their religion. The restriction is unjustified.
In fact I will say that it IS just a book and that this incursion on secular freedoms is minor in comparison with others that have been implemented, from public transport to freedom of expression and movement (gay pride parade last year) to marriage.
It's just my freedom, as long as I'm alive and healthy shouldn't that be enough???

I think that people could subscribe or order a copy of this book . If the booksellers received much orders , they are sure to have clients for it , and a good reason to open their shops at 02 01hours Shabbat morning . You are right , what a difference some hours make ? but you know people , be it a book , a new mp4 or something like this , they want to be the firsts to own it .
Have you read this article regarding fake ordonations ? Sad .

46. Of course they sell it on Shabbat
Why are some people here so offended that they publish the book on a Saturday? Isn't it quite clear why?
Saturday is a day off in most of the world, but stores are open. So people who want the book can get it early in the morning without skipping work or school or whatever and have two days to read it before the new weeks begins.
Jews who don't want to join the rest of the world in this on Saturday can still buy it on Sunday. We don't need some mullahcratic Shas to tell us what to do and what not.
After all restaurants and gas stations and I don't know what else are open on Shabbat. Why can't a book store be open once?
|
|
47. 42# Shloime
The store books will be forcing tens of employees to forgo their day of family and rest, even if they are not religious.
And they could be forcing a public desecration of Shabbat. Jewish religion is not individual, in most instances it affects clal (colective) israel.
Not selling Harry Potter does not FORCE anyone to eat pork, or are you tso carried away by all the magic already? , you have some imagination

48. The death of Harry Potter
Yes we live in a Jewish country but unfortunately being Jewish does not mean being religious, it does not mean eating Kosher and it does not mean keeping Shabbat.
It just takes two Shabbats in a row to bing the Meshiach which at present sounds impossible so it looks like I will have to fast next Tuesday.
Of course the Meshiach can come when the Jewish people reach the bottom level which just might be this Friday night because they can't wait till Motze Shabbat to buy the last of Harry Potters books.
All the shops are taking orders so you can be sure to get yours.
This is a Jewish country with goyish ways.
Shabbat Shalom and have an easy fast

57. Israel O' Israel
Elohim loves you as a nation so much, why do you turn to Molech? Have you not suffered enough from satanic wizard fables?
My pray is you will choose right.
"Now fear the LORD and serve him with all faithfulness. Throw away the gods your forefathers worshiped beyond the River and in Egypt, and serve the LORD. But if serving the LORD seems undesirable to you, then choose for yourselves this day whom you will serve, whether the gods your forefathers served beyond the River, or the gods of the Amorites, in whose land you are living. But as for me and my household, we will serve the LORD." Then the people answered, "Far be it from us to forsake the LORD to serve other gods!” Joshua 24:14-1

58. Not over yet
Meshiach will return to redeem a remnant of Israel but before this happens Israel will face what Zechariah terms Jacobs Trouble. Now is the time to seek the LORD afresh and not turn to the practices of the nations. Study Zechariah carefully you'll be amazed at what you will discover.
"Did you bring me sacrifices and offerings forty years in the desert, O house of Israel? You have lifted up the shrine of your king, the pedestal of your idols, the star of your god [a]— which you made for yourselves. Therefore I will send you into exile beyond Damascus," says the LORD, whose name is God Almighty.” Amos 5:25-27
