1. Suckers No, Just Being Abused
Dave Levy ,   Burbank. CA USA   (07.18.07)
The State, as the author likes to call Israel, has obligations to every Israel, not only soldiers, without which it would not survive for 5 minutes. This article is somewhat laughable. Obviously, Israel should try for full employment and finding jobs when soldiers leave the service. But reality is different. It seems that everything becomes a philosophical argument in Israel. 17 percent failure seems a lot to me., with the Haredi not even bothering to serve. So, large segments who serve perhaps are being abused..but sucker's NO.
2. Main problem
Itzik ,   Haifa   (07.18.07)
Children of PM Olmert did not serve in IDF. President of Israel Peres NEVER served in IDF.
3. Sharon's sons served in elite untis

5. CHILDREN OF OLMERT NEVER SERVED IN THE IDF.
MIKE ,   USA   (07.18.07)
AND THE REASON BEACUSE OLMERT'S WIFE ALWAYS TOLD THEM THAT IDF ARE CRIMINALS.THANK TO HER LEFT WING IDEAS.
6. Draft dodgers
Rod ,   Fargo N.Dakota   (07.18.07)
The large percentage of rich upper class secular draft dodgers is amazing but not suprising
7. charge the dodgers inn court
jack bauer ,   usa   (07.18.07)
Just because the present govt. is a failure, does not give one the excuse to shirk ones duty. The survival of the nation may be at stake soon and everyone will have to pull their weight. Even the haredim As for the refusniks and draft dodgers, they should have to pay for shirking their responsibilities in these precarious times. If they object to serving in the IDF, fine, but if they dont serve in some other way, they should be charged. If their belief system keeps them from fulfilling the duty required, then they should feel happy to suffer a stint in jail for their beliefs. If they skipped out for personal reasons, then throw them in anyway, or better yet set up a penal battalion, and put the dregs there
8. the state
JL ,   israel   (07.18.07)
more and more youg people choose to evade the army...more and more people are leaving this country...as this country whines about having no money...more and more peoplew are homeless and more and more people cannot afford basic commodities and yet the state keeps whining..in the end it will go down like the titanic...but the captain and the crew will abandon the ship and the citizens to fate
9. Itzik go learn history...
(07.18.07)
President Peres served in the pre-State Hagana and later was the director general of the Ministry of Defense in that position in did quite a few very important things. Further Mr. Peres was minister of defense. now the real question is can your service record compare with Mr. Peres' in other words -- what have you done for Israel lately (besides complain of course)?
10. most so-called draft dodgers do National Service
(07.18.07)
so like you know where's that stated out in the article
11. Why serve, so the left can kill us
Mordechai   (07.18.07)
There is no point in serving in the IDF. Olmert won't let it fight Israel's enemies. Any Jew who hurts and Arab goes to jail. The only job of the IDF today is to attack innocent Jews and destroy their homes.
12. You reap what you sow
Rachel ,   Israel   (07.18.07)
What can you expect when Israeli leaders use the security forces to transfer Jews against their will and destroy their homes, only to have them turned into terrorist training bases within a year or so? What can you expect when the anti-Zionist Leftist agenda does everything to erode motivation for the last 20 years and largely succeeds? What can you expect when a lawyer and a union leader start a war they aren't prepared for or motivated to win? I'm surprised that any young people are motivated to serve at all. When our leaders' own sons and daughters treat service with contempt they shouldn't be surprised. They reap what they have sown.
13. The suckers are the ones not serving
Lone Soldier ,   Israel-South African   (07.18.07)
I am a lone soldier and have just finished my officers course, i never volunteered for the army and when i made aliya i was not even sure if i wanted to serve. the army has been the greatest experience of my life, i have made friends that i trust with my life as must be in any combat situation and you learn to experience the small things in life. The true SUCKERS are those that refuse to serve for their own country and then bitch and moan about everything.
14. Last period of time Gods Kingdom
m   (07.19.07)
'unless God guards the city it is no use if the guards are awake.' Study of scripture shows that Nimrod was the first after the flood to set up a Kingdom in opposition of Jehovah. He was the first record of one invading 'Asshurs" territory using violence. This has led to wanting to understand where 'politics' comes from. In scripture we have recorded, many empires and we can learn from them how they functioned like democracy from Greek thought and Romes dominant power. God wants us to learn about the failed rulerships of men, and how men have 'dominated men to their injury'. War and violence comes from mans exaltation of himself and no state today can exist without a war machine. why?
15. go to ur dream land
falastini ,   nablus   (07.19.07)
go to your dreamland i know how israeli soldiers act when they have real fight .. they cry becouse they think they are the best and they will never lose but the fact all money your gov put in the army don't work with men like to die as you like to live ... psychologicaly yes the army make men and other stuff but man your army is corupted the Generals are corapted ... THE SUCKERS who think he serve to protect israel man the soldier now is more like gange boy he take his order from His god father jajajajaja
16. Hamburger Hill
Lemmings Hotline ,   sd usa   (07.19.07)
Who wants to fight a war that Olmert has no intention of winning. He just wants to gain some negotiating points to get a good deal at the UN. Then all the ground that was won watching your buddies die in the field will be given back to the enemies you just fought against.
17. I feel like a sucker
tma   (07.19.07)
When I made aliya, I was married with children and so never served in the army (I'm a woman). Upon hearing countless girlfriends fondly recounting their experiences in the army, I'm a little jealous. I feel that I missed out on something great. Of course, as a female, I wouldn't have to fight in any wars. It's much tougher on the men.
18. 75% of our youth are the best of the best
Ilan ,   Ariel   (07.19.07)
What society wouldn't be proud to have so many people committed to the service of the country? Certainly, if you add those volunteering through national service and other frameworks the number is much higher. One note: Arab youth are obviously excluded from this figure and that is troublesome as it misrepresents the numbers. I really believe that some form of national service would benefit everyone and that working in a hospital or school is no less important than serving in the army.
19. #14 "M"...No state can exist without a war...
(07.19.07)
because Exodus 15:3 in the Authorized King James Bible says Hashem is a man of war. King Solomon told the ancient Israelites when he dedicated the first Temple that the primary occupation of the people should be warfare, to defend the country. When the devil deceived Eve in the peaceful Garden of Eden, sin entered into the world and peace, even in the family, was taken from the earth. That is a sad reality every nation must understand. Even when the Messiah comes down from the sky and touches down on the Mount of Olives like the Prophet Zechariah says, he will come to battle the nations of the world that have come against Israel. After that war, there will be peace for awhile until there is a final rebellion to end all wars for all time.
20. Like if the army cared to bring CAPTIVE SOLDIERS back
gabriela ben ari ,   jerusalem   (07.19.07)
21. Looking at "leaders"
Itzik ,   Haifa   (07.19.07)
As you well know, Peres never served in IDF (or Palmah). He was a clerk in various ministries including the ministry of defence. He never participated in any batle or went to a basic training. He is known as expert in dirty tricks against his opponents in Knesset, in Labor party, etc. If you want to mention his greatest achievements, they are Oslo War and the Nobel prize with Arafat.
