1. Well, can you really blame them????
Marcell   (07.20.07)
2. poll shows Israeli youth would rather live elsewhere
roxy ,   israel   (07.20.07)
Can you blame them, the educational system here is below par with the EU and American schools, there is a constant threat of terrorism and war. The gov is corrupt here, job opportunities are less than what there is abroad, and abroad they pay better. Many of the kids are probably echoing what they hear at home as well, many Israeli families desire to move abroad now and frankly I don't blame them, who wants to live this way!
3. Half the kids are too spoilt........who cares what they want
freejay ,   Israel   (07.20.07)
4. just about says it all
Daniel ,   Jerusalem, Israel   (07.20.07)
which is why i don't want to bring my kids up here and will leave when i get the chance
5. Israeli Teens
Jacques ,   Jerusalem   (07.20.07)
The survey shows also a degree of sophistication not easily found elsewhere. Israeli teens tend to be more mature with a high sense of commitment and social solidarity. After all, these are the intelligent and brave IDF soldiers of the future. Teens are, however, poorly served by the Israeli system, educational and otherwise, when it comes to preparing them for meaningful careers. Israel should invest in its youth, preparing them through sound secondary and higher education education and giving them equal opportunities for jobs. Other countries, for example Tunisia, devote a high percentage of the budget to the development of their human resources. Isn't time for Israel to wake up and invest in its future ?
6. You wont ever be happy because you are living on STOLEN land
MyProperties   (07.20.07)
7. #5 is correct.
abdulla ,   ashkenaz   (07.20.07)
8. Government and Media Responsible
Aharon ,   TA   (07.20.07)
Of course these teens don't feel safe and want to run! Why shouldn't they? The media are blowing Iran and Syria WAY out of any logical proportion, and are TERRIFYING the people. Netanyahu and his wonderful economic reforms caused this terrible social situation we see today, and yet he is leading in the polls! OF COURSE ISRAELIS WANT TO RUN AWAY! WHAT SANE PERSON WOULDN'T! Our leaders are traitors. We need a Jewish nationalist party that looks towards a realistic future. Instead of spending billions maintaining these horrid settlements, invest it into our EDUCATION and SOCIAL PROGRAMS. These settler leeches make up 10% of the population and meanwhile they waste hugely disproportionate sums of money on unsustainable religious dreams.
9. greener grass
rj ,   engladn   (07.20.07)
unfortunately the youth of Israel believe the green is much greener on the other side ....but in reality it is not...living here in Britain which is supposedly teh 4th richest country in the world you hear the same moaning from british youth about no oppertunities and social unrest....america is not a bed of roses either as americans work longer hours and have only small ammounts of social times each week...believe me the grass is definately not greener elsewhere and staying and making Israel work is and always has been the best option...why throw away what is quickly becoming one of the greatest countries in excistance...AM YISRAEL CHAI...
10. rubbish
Rupert ,   UK   (07.20.07)
All kids of that age think that life is better somewhere else. This is totally misleading and is just an excuse for people like Daniel to be yordim and blame the system rather than their own failures.
11. Simply they wanna go back where they came from
basel ,   Jer.   (07.20.07)
All JEWS CAME FROM ALL OVER THE WORLD TO LIVE IN PALESTINE, BUT NOW THEY DECIDED TO GO BACK....GOOD CHOICE.
12. No problem! Join the US Military and get US citizenship...
WANTED:ISRAELI YOUTH   (07.20.07)
in six months with just one four year tour of duty! They will even be near their families in the Middle East in all likelihood. Serve IDFor National Service first and then the US Military! You will be almost guaranteed a "personality discharge" certificate if wounded so you will be prevented from getting a pension. No problem! Hold onto Israeli citizenship and get free medical care for wounds in Israel! Or you can live out your life as a war wounded veteran at an underfunded American Veterans' Administration Hospital! You can have your own pet rats! Why stay in Israel when you can be an American war wounded! Exception from IDF callups if wounds are severe enough! AND YOU GET A PURPLE HEART MEDAL AND RIBBON TO PUT ON YOUR DRIVER'S LICENSE CAR PLATE! What? Israel, not so bad? Decided to stay in Israel?
13. FUTURE OF ISRAEL
HANZALAH NAJI ALI ,   ALSHAJARA   (07.20.07)
just peace can save israel , peace can solve economic problems, and stop comunity from electing corrupted leaders, security will be a result. which will give more trust for the coming generation in their institutes. if israel continue like this the negative imigration (outgoing) will increase and the demogrophic problem will explode. lol may be wealthy arab countries like saudi arabia will think to make other jews agency to fund those youth who want to imigrate. just peace is the solution.
14. rj , england , no words but deeds !
charles ,   petach tikva   (07.20.07)
Israel is so great in your eyes , but you stay in England . Come on , enough words , make Alyah ! Baruch Habah !
15. Reverse gear
(07.20.07)
make the poll after telling them "if the obligatory military service is nulled". I'm sure the other half would want to live abroad.
16. To Jacques:
Yaron ,   World   (07.20.07)
Are you kidding when saying: "a high sense of commitment and social solidarity". Ask most of the Israelis to give some money for a good cause, to volunteer for something, if they would give up something for somebody else to live better, you will get the following answer: Ma ani freier? Ask the same thing in other parts of the world and you will see.
17. Biased Survey
Zeev ,   US   (07.20.07)
The questions highlighted in the article indicate that the survey questions focused on "social justice". Usually this phrase indicates a strong attachment to the concept of redistribution of wealth. This idea is especially attractive to young people who have little wealth a doubt their ability to achieve. If you compare the schooling and opportunities to achieve academically, financially, and socially in Israel to other countries I bielieve these students are fortunate to find themselves citizens of Israel. I make this statement as someone who has been a frequent visitor to Israel and many of the most "fortunate" countries in the world.
18. Olmert's consecuence: you won't live in a trumbling country
Ignacio ,   Zaragoza, Spain   (07.20.07)
Why 90% of Spanish Jews do not see any future in Spain, but consider even France as places to run?
19. 11. Jer, most Israeli kids parents are from Arab countries!
Nannette ,   London   (07.20.07)
There are millions of Jewish refugees from Arab countries living in Israel. If they had their stolen lands and property in Iraq, Syria, Kuwait, Bahrain, Libya, Jordan, Egypt, and Lebanon returned, then they would have somewhere to go back to!
20. #14 charles , petach tikva
rj ,   england (working)   (07.20.07)
I am an Israeli but working in britain....my home is Israel (Ramat Gan) my parents (Tiberias)....i come home for 1 month every 3 months until my work contract has finished then i shall return home....britian is only a work place and not a country i would want to live in due to obvious reasons....i think there is nothing wrong in working abroad if the time is right but i see no reason in staying out of Israel after the work contract has expired....plus while here myself and other Israelis tell the british Jewish youths and elders how great Israel is and how they should make aliyah sooner rather than later...
21. Secular-Zionism Failed...
Aaron ,   Israel   (07.20.07)
Zionism without Torah and understanding the spiritual importance and grace of the Land of Israel is doomed to fail. What do you expect from kids that weren't taught this? If one does not truly believe that this is the Holy Land- it makes it very hard to stay...
22. Leaving Israel?
vicky ,   Ashkelon   (07.20.07)
I left England because of the anti-semitism. My son loved the army and wanted to stay but he could not get a job. The army makes these spoilt brats grow up. They soon change their mind. Instead of doing all theses questionaires they should be teaching them the grass roots of their heritage. Their parents obviously are not. Whats happening to us. Are we all mosocists?
23. #10
miri ,   gan yavne   (07.20.07)
no, not all kids that age think it's better somewhere else. put your money where your mouth is and come live here. then you can talk. the system here stinks, from a corrupt PM, to corrupt rabbis, to corrupt politicians and police and a lousy school/academic system in which i have been working in since 1975 and watching it go from a wonderful system to an inadequate one. this is not the same country i made aliya to in 1974. had it been then the way it is now, i would have turned around and gone right back home. sadly, this country has been going downhill fast and no one seems to care enough to do anything about it.
24. Poll Contradtictions!
Hansje   (07.20.07)
One poll contradicts the other. I've seen polls in Israel stating that 85% of Israelis are very happy with their life in Israel...!
25. this is the future of secular Zionism=deadend.
Yisraeli   (07.20.07)
26. I would like half of Israeli teen to live abroad too
rh ,   Modiin   (07.20.07)
27. So What? 54% of UK ADULTS would consider emigrating!
Andi ,   Israel   (07.20.07)
As usual we latch on to a statistic and think Israel is much worse than elsewhere. http://www.icmresearch.co.uk/reviews/2006/BBC%20-%20Emigration/BBC-emigration-july-2006.asp
28. I'll pay towards the farewell party
