"and the jews should not care about a real tragedy! " of course, should. But not in such way like if you don't want to participate you go to jail.
32. Rejoice
Asher ,   Yerushalim   (07.24.07)
"Israelis" I am sick of their sick attitude. Those who mourn the destruction of the Batai HaMikdashim will be around to rejoice their rebuilding.
33. Reading all these postings...
David ,   Los Angeles   (07.24.07)
It is very clear that we have learned nothing from the destruction of the Temples that we mourn on Tisha B'Av. There is so much sinas chinom (causeless hatred) posted here, both from the religious (who are intolerant and self-righteously attempt to control the thoughts of others), and from the secular, who don't have any respect even for the private views of the (truly) religious. Sinas chinom was the reason for the destuction of the 2nd Temple and the exile of the Jewish People. If it continues, how can we think ourselves even worthy to possess Eretz Yisroel, let alone build another Temple.

"The mourning on Tisha B'Av is strongly connected to losing sovereignty over the Land of Israel, that's what I don't emotionally endorse it. " Not so. Before the Beis HaMikdash was destroyed (both of them), there was no Jewish sovereignty over the land. Israel was a vassle state for quite some time.

Firstly, secondly and finally, Israel is people who live in it. There are different people with different 'level of education'. Moreover, some of these people do NOT want to be taught the education you suggest. We are all the citizens of the Holy Land. So, if one citizen bothers other one, the only solution is a court. But! But, very important to live out your own life and do not be slave of someone else's ideas.

Uri, see lead article. Now the air-headed secularists want to become German citizens. Soon you'll hear '"Shoah? whats that? The land "spits out" certain people. Maybe ignorance and stupidity are criteria.

The same problem is in the US. While Jewish Jews fast today, the vast majority are not choosing not to fast, but are totally unaware of the day. Non-traditional Jewish education here and in Israel have created Jewish gentiles.
39. Tisha B'av - It's about love.
Berger ,   Lakewood NJ   (07.25.07)
The Bais Hamikdash was destroyed for sinas chinam - baseless hatred - Jews should not hate each other - but It's not only about loving or hating _ we want to love all Jews, but you know as Jews, we have a responsibilities to our creation as a nation and i can't see how you can take G-d out of that picture. It might be more poliitcal to be secular, but it can't hold up in the long run - We are G-d's nation and if we want to forget it, history has shown us that G-d won't let us forget it. I repeat! Leshana Hazeh B'Yerushalayim habenuy'ah!

How the temple could be build if You, Mister, still have been wasting your time among, so to say, goish (gentile) enemies. Or, there is OK for Jew to "live through" somewhere in the States?

Failure of Education? - No, rather of politics.
42. A Purposeful Deconstruction Of Jewish Roots
Adina Kutnicki ,   US   (07.25.07)
The ignoring of this bitter day in Jewish history within Israel (of all places) is a direct result of the deconstruction of Judaism from the ethos of Israeli society. One can thank the secular left rulers of Israel who have left this 'legacy' for its citizens. Those who do not know their history, and those who wish to forget history (like Peres) have no business leading the Jewish nation. None!
43. Secular...
Simon ,   Malha   (07.25.07)
Being Secular, I know one thing that I do want to see and that is the rebuilding of the Temple. What I don't get is why you hve to be religious to want it.. its simply the Buckingham Palace of our people, it will unite all Jews from across Israel to across the world, all of us have on thing in common our Jewishness, thats enough bseder! We should build it and clear the land of those living here who want to kill us.
44. Secular Jews are just Israelis in name only.

By Sharon and the gang that runs the government. Religious outcry let them put it off for a day.
46. Memory is key to survival
110743 ,   Israel   (07.25.07)
I would not consider myself Orthodox by any means, but I do fast on Tisha b'Av. I was rather taken aback when someone asked me, "Why do you fast; you're not religious? What does it concern you?" It concerns me because as a Jew, I value Jewish memory. More than any other trait, it is our long -- and sometimes extremely empathic -- memory that keeps us Jewish. On Erev Pesach, we "consider ourselves as if we ourselves had left Egypt." It is this empathy with our past which allows us to learn from our history. And we *must* learn from history if we are to survive. But memory gives us not only the means to survive, but also the reason to survive. In our memory we find values and ideals that are worth sustaining. So yes, I fast on Tisha b'Av. When we can no longer remember our history, there will be no one left to say Kaddish.

So what if there will be nobody to say kaddish for you . Do you think that those who were your loved ones need to say kaddish to remember you ? You don't need to say kaddish to mourn your deceased , you can remember them in your heart , without prayers .
48. Tisha B'Av: Sorry about Smulik
Abraham Bohadana ,   Nancy, France   (07.25.07)
I'm really sorry abou guys like Shmulik. I don't feel better than him, smarter than him, or clever than him. I'm just sad for him.
49. Shmuliks and Chayas
Abraham Bohadana ,   Nancy, France   (07.25.07)
Once I lived in Israel. I've just found too many Shmuliks so I came back. I wish I've had found more Chayas.

You sound as an Holocaust denier . On one place you say it's childs play compared to 9 be'av . Here you say to talula get over it . Well i would compare you to this french one , Le pen , who said that the holocaust was only detail of WWII , you have the same ideas , but you are worse , you "pretend" to be a Jew , one of those iran visitors certainly .
