With the British Mandate there would be no Israel if not for the Irgun, Haganah and general weakness of the British post WW2. The British had tried everything to prevent the establishment of Israel, including, but not limited to, training and leading the Jordanian units in 1948. Do you truly believe that this current hostility of the Brits towards Israel and the mainstream belief that Israel is a historical error is something new?

The Brits played both sides at the same time and helped to create many of the problems - just like they did in Kashmir, too. Churchill was a great man, yes (one of my favorites), and Britain has done many great things for the world. Personally, I think that British colonialism was a good thing. They helped to modernize the world, and they offered many primitive countries a view of modernity and practical lessons in how modern nations are put together and run. Unfortunately, many of the colonized didn't pay attention and ended up not taking advantage. That is not the fault of the British. HOWEVER, the Brits have long had a terrible problem with hating Jews. They still do, today - ergo the need for people to denounce the moronic British boycott. As to the fact that the Brits did nothing to help leave a calm situation in their absence in the middle east - that is without doubt. And they are not trying to solve the situation today, except to try and do whatever they can to insure the destruction of Israel. Just watch the words coming out of Blair's mouth in the next few months. In all, the world benefitted greatly from the British. They are a good people and have given a great deal to a large number - but they screwed the Jews over and continue to do so.
