With clenched teeth    Amos Oz
1. Another load of leftist nonsense from the Wizard of Oz
Dudu ,   Kfar Sava   (07.31.07)
2. But Barak already offered them that in 2000, REMEMBER???
Oz should stick to writing silly fictional stories - leave the politics to others
Jo ,   karmiel   (07.31.07)
3. Oz's problem is that he lives in a parallel, pseudoreality
where another final little Israeli concession will do the trick. The Jihad/Abbas/Hamas will then recognise us and we will have peace, to live happily ever after.
Naomi ,   Netanya   (07.31.07)
4. This dreck peddler is at it again...
I suppose no one is reading his books. Get a friggin life moron, better yet walk thru a minefield and do us all a favour.
aL   (07.31.07)
5. So says the Wizard of Oz ....
Make-believe is so much more pleasant than reality but believing fantasies like this article will only lead us into a worse situation.
Terry ,   Eilat, Israel   (07.31.07)
6. More fantasy news
Our very Wizard of Oz inventing the news again. Tell us all, what compromise have the Arabs EVER made? Can you name a single one? I bet not, but you might invent one. Can you name a single obligation that they have EVER fulfilled? I know that you can't if you are honest. Another left-wing moron
Gee ,   Zikron Yaakov   (07.31.07)
7. Mr Oz, allow me to mention a few details
You say: The Palestinian cabinet's manifesto has finally dropped the clause calling for an armed struggle ..." Ynet just reported a couple of days ago: "Palestinian Prime Minister Salam Fayyad has said Palestinians have a legitimate right to resist Israeli occupation, even if the phrase does not appear in his new government program." http://www.ynetnews.com/articles/0,7340,L-3431611,00.html As for the rest, you expect that another Oslo would be the basis for a Palestinian state. And how would that solve: - Arab opposition to Abbas and Fatah both in the WB and Gaza. - terror by Fatah factions now in the WB - Hamas determination to take over Fatahland - most importantly, the complete lack of democratic spirit in the PA and Gaza. Everything leads to an Islamic state, whether by elections or by a takeover. How do you expect a future Islamic state to regard any agreement reached by the Abbas regime and Olmert? You can't prop up Abbas or Fatah forever. Didn't the Gaza takeover teach us anything? The extremists' fight will continue. The solution is not a another terror state next to Israel.
Canadian Otter   (07.31.07)
8. professional tripe writer
nothing new or interesting from him.
Ilan ,   Ariel   (07.31.07)
9. holocaust denier
how can you believe any commitments made by a holocaust denier Abbas? The peace process is the cause of the terrorism Thus oslo has led to the establishment of Hamastan in Gaza and thousands of Palestinian and Lebanese and Israeli deaths .The responsibility for these deaths can be laid fairly and squarely at the door of the peace camp. They have this blood on their hands
alun ,   london uk   (07.31.07)
10. Oz
Amos Oz has an other delusional seizure. His obession with gaining favor with the Leftis of the world has caused him to engage in hallucinogenic fantasies.
Kate Harrington ,   London England   (08.01.07)
11. Why is a second-rate fiction writer writing political essays
Cheese Eater ,   Paris   (08.01.07)
12. Mr. Oz, would it hurt you to admit you've been wrong
all your life? That there's no hope of ever living in peace with the Palestinians? That they don't live in peace with anyone, whether it's the Lebanese or the Jordanians or the Iraquis?
Sandra   (08.01.07)
13. I know that Oz is a fiction writer, but...
I would still like to hear Oz's definition of 'a moderate.' Somehow I get the feeling that Oz has created a distinct and separate category of ' moderate Arabs,' who have characteristics and attributes, quite different from those we are accustomed to consider and call ‘moderate.’ As a matter of fact, I doubt it very much that Oz would refer to anybody, but Arabs, displaying those characteristics, beliefs and actions, as ' moderate.' The first lies begins with the language, and how it is being used, we are reminded by Orwell. Oz is a wordsmith, he knows all about words.

16. This guy said all Jews must be taken to US
In El Pais, Spanish socialist newspaper. Besides, it is urgent to create one more arab state, according to him.
Ignacio ,   Zaragoza, Spain   (08.01.07)
17. Oz
One must have compassion for Oz. He and the far too many who think like him are suffering from "battered Jew syndrome". They are no different than a women who, after being repeatedly attacked and beaten by her violent and abusive husband, refuses to confront him or leave him and instead goes into denial and convinces herself that "he doesn't really mean it" and that it must have been something she did which brought upon the abuse upon her. If she just makes additional concessions to him, he will stop beating her. Similarly, when confronted by people whose visceral hatred for Jews emanates from three generations of being raised to accept as true the Nazi-inspired belief that Jews are vermin to be exterminated like cockroaches, the minds of many Jews can not cope with being viewed as vermin and convince themselves that it must be their fault and if they just make one more concession, the Jew-haters will stop seeking to destroy them. The important lesson to be learned is that just as denial doesn't save battered women, denial will not save the Jewish people or Israel. The delusion that just making one or two more concession to the Arabs and they will let the Jews live in peace is the same sort of delusion born of denial. If the majority of Israeli voters suffer from "battered Jew syndrome" then I fear the worst.

18. stick to writing fiction and leave intellegent
political observations to ppl with brains and vision and ideology. Just cause u write good novels does NOT make u a political observer and i dont have to listen to yo blabber on this idiotic proposal.
hordling ,   and puking   (08.01.07)
19. #17 - Martin - Excellent comment (pls. see Book reference)
And the sad thing is that this ailment affects anyone, no matter how intelligent, educated, and with actual experience living in Israel and knowing the reality first hand. There's an excellent book on this subject: The Oslo Syndrome: Delusions of a People Under Siege, by Kenneth Levin. And here's an interview of the author: http://www.frontpagemag.com/Articles/Read.aspx?GUID={F66256B6-688A-45AE-9252-CF9758750035}

20. #13 (AK) and #16 (Ignacio)
AK, very excellent point with devastating implications for Oz's morality. Ignacio, do you have a link/cite for when and where Oz said this? I don't disbelieve you--I'd just love to be able to link to it in the future.
Cheese Eater ,   Paris   (08.02.07)
21. #19
Thank you, Tracy W for the information. I read the transcript of the interview and I am on my way to the bookstore to buy the book. One of the things that worries me about my belief in "Battered Jew Syndrome" is that its analogue among battered women has demonstrated that absent the active intervention of trained third parties, the battered rarely escape their fate and often end up dead. If the body politic of Israel can not get rid of the delusional "Battered Jews" which currently make up the government, I fear that the same result may obtain.
