1. distasteful, but unreasonable?
Avinoam ,   Tel Aviv, Israel   (08.05.07)
Firstly, I think that the majority of the population is with the survivors on this point. I for one am disgusted at the abuse they have had to suffer at the hands of the goverment. I think the survivors should be given what is necessary for them to live comfortably. Is Israel not THE refuge for the oppressed Jew? Was the country not founded on the ashes of the Holocaust? The whole situation is ridiculous. I do think that wearing the yellow star is bad taste but then what right do I have to judge? I wasn't there. I don't agree that there is a parallel with Gush Katif. Misuse of the symbols of Jewish oppression for political gain is abominable, unethical, and I have no respect for the protests of Gush Katif as such, whereas here it is the very people who once wore those stars who are protesting, it is completely different, perhaps distasteful, but not unethical. Perhaps it is good that we feel distaste at such a protest! After all, is this situation not absurd?
2. "conduct of the authorities" the atrocities
Ben Temalion ,   Shiloh, MO USA   (08.05.07)
Those who had stars put on them should be able to wear them with pride in the mornful eye$ of those who give 10$ and hundred$ of million$ to those who were complicit with the nazi shoa and the pogrom$ before and after. The "authorities" ARE complicit in the pain of Jewish lives. It is not an "even if" hier klieger. Your "authorites" under the guise of "democracy" took power without being elected after the mosser leader of the Likud implemented not only the the latest incarnation at the time a pogrom against the Jews known then as the mitzna plan, the plan of the opposition, and indoing so subverted the will of the people that voted against said pogrom. He further disengaged from his party charter and oath by his mouth to uphold his party's referendum against such pogroms. The pain of the pogrom has continued to this day as does that of the survivers of the Shoa tdue to your un repentent, unmitigated self-indulgent "authorities". You would hold Shoa victims accountable, other Jews who have had their lives destroyed while million$ go to the training, arming, feeding, housing, providing utilities for when they should have their right of return enforced to their homicidal Hamite peninsular homeland so the Jews can find some peace in their ancient homeland. Abbas even admitted churches were there long before they arrived. You have much bigger problems with your "authorites" who hate Jews and go to the bank with your murderer's. I would bet you give more to museums than to those who love the land that protects all of you. As if it is vaccination for your Jew hatred. Your hatred for those who love the land that protects you all. Those who actually conduct mitzvot ha eretz Yisroel.
3. When the history of the Holocaust is finally written
Debbie ,   Seattle   (08.05.07)
it should not end in 1945 or 1948. The story continues throughout these years, with the survivors' unsuccessful expectation to have their very own Jewish home recognize their rights to be treated with respect. This chapter, shameful as it is, of the Israeli government misusing European compensation money, and then allowing the survivors to live in poverty and neglect, must be added to the History of the Holocaust - a final and very shameful for Israel final chapter.
4. to provide assistance to survivors, government should sell
its volvos & cut bak ,   large gov pensions!   (08.05.07)
5. The author is wrong
Marty ,   USA   (08.05.07)
Actually it is only the survivors who have the right to wear the yellow star.
6. Yellow star
Yonatan ,   USA   (08.05.07)
I think it would be appropriate to wear the star when it is directly related to Shoah. Not just any protest. This is just my opinion.I don't mean to offend any of our survivors or their relatives, G*d bless them.
7. Gaza and Holocost survivors displaced
Steve ,   USA   (08.06.07)
B"H I had no idea that the two groups were in such a close situation when some from Katif donned a star. But now I hear that some holocost survivors are not cared for the state and are donning a star, perhaps those of Katif who did so are sympathetic to the cause of those from the holocost who do so now. But you know if you want to protest someone's wearing of their yellow star from the holocost, remember it is THEIR yellow star. The person went through the holocost and is a much better judge than the person who writes about the holocost but did not go through it. If the holocost survivor feels vitimized by the system and needs medicine to live, their protest to wear their clothes is their right. To supress peaceful disengagement protest with Kassam units is a low. But to suggest that holocost survivors do not have the right to wear whatever to protest their right to live is absurd. Quote: Two years ago, when a handful of Gush Katif residents used the yellow Star of David to express their protest against the disengagement, I thought that their conduct was inappropriate. I don't think the situation is any different where Holocaust survivors are concerned.
8. tell them they cant have their tatoos as well why dont you?
jack bauer ,   usa   (08.06.07)
if its a protest, how is the star, or their striped pj's not relevant? Noah, get the log out, its blurring your vision. Its not as if they are marching at the homo parade with them....it IS relevant. And it seems especially relevant to them!
9. blue and green star Dawid had and has green eyes.
jlynch ,   USA   (08.06.07)
Pslams 23 and the emerald green rainbow in Revelations.
10.  youre unapropriate
yaqov ,   jerusalem   (08.06.07)
for trying to stiffle debate they have all the right in the world to wear the yellow badge
11. Why not? Their plight is a result of the Holocaust
David ,   Karmiel, Israel   (08.06.07)
People who went through what our Holocaust Survivors survived are entitled to use anything they like to bring this miserable government and our "couldn't Care a Damn" Prime Minister to its knees! How dare we, the people of Israel, allow our elderly, the people who built this country so that Jews can stand proud, be so humiliated? I would also suggest to the Editor that YnetNews look into the bureaucracy that these people have to go through to get their compensation from the German Government and how the compensation is reduced if they have income in Israel, including National Insurance payments. Nothing that is world has to offer can compensate for what they have been through and we have an obligation to make sure that they can live out their lives with the dignity and respect they deserve!
12. No one else has the right to wear that star.
Rheachel ,   Manchester,Tn.   (08.09.07)
I for one would never presume to tell a Holocaust survivor when, where , or if that star should be worn.
