1. Hamas mistreating animals
Debbie ,   Seattle   (08.15.07)
International animal rights group PETA on Wednesday condemned a "shocking and sickening" video clip produced by a Hamas-run TV station and posted on the YouTube Web site that showed the abuse of animals. PETA said it would protest to the TV station over the program that showed animals being abused as part of a program aimed at teaching children not to hurt animals. The clip prompted scores of complaints from viewers worldwide. http://www.haaretz.com/hasen/spages/893879.html Video: http://www.pmw.org.il/
2. While no animal should be abused,
Chaya ,   Bat Yam, Israel   (08.15.07)
the welfare of human beings should come first. They are not equal.
3. Peter Singer's philosophy - We're not more important
Gene ,   New Jersey   (08.16.07)
than other creatures. "The racist violates the principle of equality by giving greater weight to the interests of members of his own race, when there is a clash between their interests and the interests of those of another race. Similarly the speciesist allows the interests of his own species to override the greater interests of members of other species. The pattern is the same in each case. Most human beings are speciesists." http://www.animal-rights-library.com/texts-m/singer02.htm "But I would ask them to think about humans at lower cognitive levels, whether they're newborn babies or humans with serious intellectual disabilities and say, do we really want to ignore and overlook their pain just because they can't use language or are not able to tell us about their pains in detail?." http://www.mndaily.com/articles/2006/03/23/67657
4. it isn't true that ar activists have never harmed people....
concerned citizen ,   everywhere, usa   (08.16.07)
they have harmed people... just do some research..innocent people have been physically beaten by ar activists, innocent families have received death threats from ar activists, etc.. innocent people have been killed by ar activists..ar activists even dug up a dead woman's body and used it as collateral against a family to get their way.....and they are still terrorizing thru intimidation whether they harm people or not...ar isn't just about animal abuse in labs, etc...ar wants to take away all our rights to eat meat, own pets, have rodeos, circuses, hunt, fish, etc, whether the animals are abused or not.....the right to eat meat or own pets, or any of the mentioned should be a choice that is up to the individual...not something they are terrorized into not doing. For people that believe so whole-heartedly in the 'freedom of speech ' laws, they really shouldn't want to take other's freedoms away, just because they don't approve of their choices...that borders on communism.
5. A little aggressiveness in defense of animals
Canadian Otter   (08.16.07)
is not a bad thing. From today's news: "TORONTO -- Animal-rights supporters are set to rally today in support of an animal abuse investigator who was suspended for allegedly handcuffing the owner of a suffering dog to the door of his own SUV. Toronto Humane Society officer Tre Smith was suspended from active duty after the unconventional rescue of Cyrus, a 50-kg Rottweiler. Smith smashed a window of a car to save the dog he said was near death, but Smith said he was soon confronted by the owner, who was acting very aggressively. Smith cuffed the owner to the car, where he was allegedly beaten by a crowd after Smith left." http://calsun.canoe.ca/News/National/2007/08/15/4419315-sun.html
6. Singer's Ideas
John ,   Maaleh Adumim,Israel   (08.16.07)
I think Singer's ideas are often misrepresented. His idea is that you should not neglect an animal's rights just because they are an non-human animal. However, it is obvious that we should give more or less rights to beings based on their closeness to use - socially, family vs. non family, geographic distance; there are good Darwinian reasons for all of these. Animals are not as much part of the society we will live in (except for pets) and therefore the well-being of the humans do come first. But well-being comes first doesn't mean the right to abuse animals for our own amusement (including the huge amounts of meat we eat - even if one needs it for their health (and most can live with it but everyone is a little diferent and there may be some cases where its needed, I'm honesty not sure) its not needed more than a small number of times a week - in our society, many eat it every day, for the taste - i.e., for their own amusement, basicly.) We put our own society before other societies, but we don't condone enslaving other societies for our benifit (although, of course, we do - little kids in China make the shoes most of us wear, for example. Is this justified? Not an easy question to answer.) In the same way, we can understand that the humans come before the animals in our society, but they don't come so much before the humans that they have the right to abuse them needlessly. - John
7. I hope that now all animals lover wake up
Roy ,   Israel   (08.16.07)
we must help this pet's from being killed in this laboratorys. we all need to do somthing againts Mazor monkey lab.
8. True cause of animal abuse in laboratories
Hospital researcher ,   Israel   (08.17.07)
Poor management, ignorance, laziness, greed, burn-out, territory-hoarding, and apathy - and sometimes lack of funding to take appropriate internationally established measures. To make things worse from the human point of view, animal stress chemicals mess up the data and can create backwards research results that are at best useless and at worse, used to support harmful treatments. On the other hand, well-done research benefits veterinary medicine with minimal additional experimentation. "Human" drugs have saved many a beloved pet because they were already tested in that species. If all was done more carefully in the early laboratory stages, humans could be tested on more often, without so much fear of side effects. And in terms of the cosmetic industry, where animal-testing is an anachronism - since it is the worlds 2nd-oldest profession - Israel is a leader in rejecting it.

If you are in any capacity to document what goes on at animal research facilities, you have the moral duty to document it and report it. Even if you do it anonymously. Contact PETA and see how you can help. Please.
