1. I don't think it happened in the cafeteria over donuts
Akiva ,   Maaleh Adumim   (08.16.07)
These morons don't have the moral legs to stand with that generation.
2. Those brave people that fought for this country are haning
j ,   usa   (08.16.07)
their heads in shame the way the current heads of government(Israel included), are giving the land away to those who hate Israel. Israel will be judged harshly for this. This should not be a celebrated event. Hashem didn't require the spilled blood of those who died to make this happen for Israel only to have these mental midgets give it away. Shame on you Israel, shame on you.
3. Instead of acting, try taking action on Israel's problems
Zvi   (08.16.07)
4. WE'RE THANKFUL FOR THE PARTITION????
stude ham   (08.16.07)
Or are we thankful for the state of Israel? The partiton itself was as foul and perfidious as the treacherously imposed India/Pakistan separation also at about the same time. We must not recognize this date as partition ... because it plays too much into the hands of our enemies. We must recognize this date as the creation of the modern state of Israel. Partition? that was a catastrophe.
5. 34 not 33
amihai ,   tel aviv   (08.16.07)
at least one country split into two - czechoslovakia. to host venezuelan ambassador of anti-israeli hugo chavez would be funny.
6. UNGAR 181 Only made recomendations to the SC
Mr. Knowitall ,   Frostbite Falls, MN   (08.17.07)
UNGAR 181, like the 60+ general assembly resolutions that Israel ignores to this day, do not have the power to partition Palestine and did not legitimize Israel's unilateral declaration of statehood on May 14. 1948 as the partition expired. Because of Israel's unilateral move and the immediate recognition by the US, the UN has no choice but to terminate the commission and appoint a special envoy to be sent to Palestine and to make recommendations to the UN, unfortunately the Swedish envoy, Count Folk Bernadette was murdered by Jewish terrorists shortly there after. So I find it hard for Israel to claim the UN had sanctioned Israel's creation in 1948, when in fact it did no such thing and especially since Israel's founders murdered the UN’s envoy.
7. Making it really authentic
Mike G. ,   Toronto Canada   (08.17.07)
What would make this recreation really authentic would be that as soon as the nation of Israel is announced into statehood the Arabs would attack again!
8. 60 years.
colin   (08.17.07)
There is no festivities this years. This corrupt government has brought the country to a stage of disrespect and abandimant. The survivers live in poverty. The youngetr generation are leaving Israel for better pastures, the education of the children is undermined, the politicians fill thier bank accounts ,the nation is overtaxed--HOW CAN ISRAEL CELEBRATE.??
9. #4 - Yes, we're thankful now and we were thankful then.....
Andy ,   ramat hasharon   (08.17.07)
It wasn't a catashtrophe. It was the world acknowleging Jewish sovereighty in Eretz Yisrael. It was a state for us after 2000 years. It was our position of compromise with the arabs, which we accepted. It was alot of things we are happy about here.
10. White hat, gloves, purse, and shoes on Mrs. Ben Gurion bring
Rivkah   (08.17.07)
back memories. What a wonderful occasion to celebrate.
11. #4 Visualize the alternative from a political correctedness
Israel   (08.17.07)
point-of view: if the Jews had just said "we're back and all of this is ours," we wouldn't be receiving an ounce of support from the international community. Just a thought.
12. #11, we didn't get an "ounce of support"
Danny   (08.17.07)
from the international community in 1948. We got some weapons - which we paid for - from the USSR via Czechoslovakia. The international community imposed an arms embargo on the fighting parties - Britain helpfully shipped massive amounts of arms to Iraq, Egypt and Jordan immediately prior to imposing it. The international community spent the next 19 years trying to shave bits of Israel off. It was only in 1967 when we conquered the territories that 1948 was finally accepted. All the UN partition vote did was kick off the war that Israel eventually won. For that we can thank them, we can also thank Ben Gurion for ignoring all the UN attempts at "supporting" Israel duing that war and after. What a contrast with the current administration.
13. #6, hmm interesting "interpretation" of history
Danny   (08.17.07)
Partition was dead in the water from the moment it was passed. The Arabs attacked straight away. "Defenceless" Palestinians would kill nearly 2000 Israelis before the declaration of independence in May 1948. Partition didn't "expire", the date 14/5/1948 is the date of the withdrawal from the Mandate. Bernadette was killed by the Stern Gang. The "founders" you quote wouldn't be serious parts of the Israeli political system for a further 35 years. The actual founders condemned the murder. Any more BS you'd like to claim?
14. Change our flag to "kick me"
Ilan ,   Ariel   (08.17.07)
Without doubt this will only lead to more international abuse of the country. After half a century of Arab countries and their oil dependents pushing that Israel is a mistake most of the world has fallen in line with that. Our small politicians can't resist the temptation to stand up before a camera even if it will only lead to abuse of the country.
15. Oh really! Why not invite Hamas & Alqaida
Ariel ,   London UK   (08.17.07)
Who dreamt up this nonsense? Is this Israel's teenage crush on the UN? I would have thought that Israel was well past puberty by now. What they're going to get, is the inevitable diplomatic slap in the face! There are better things to do, like improve the welfare of the holocaust survivors and prepare for a possible war with Syria, which by the way, the UN would everything within it's power to not help Israel.
