1. And our religious leaders?
Dorothy Friend ,   Tel Aviv   (08.27.07)
One for the Chief Azkenazic Rabbi and one for the Chief Sephardic Rabbi?
2. this is the place they'll be running the country BADLY from
aaron ,   ra'anana   (08.27.07)
its interesting to note Olmert is investing so much in his own personal safety and the safety of the other incompetents in his gang while the children of sderot get the old "maccabiah bridge" treatment
3. But there is no money for . . . .
(08.27.07)
the protection of Israel's citizens in Sderot and surrounding communities.
4. Preemptive Strike On Iran A Better Idea.
Terry ,   Eilat, Israel   (08.27.07)
While it's nice to know the gov't will survive a nuclear attack, it would also be nice if the country survived. I don't deny that we need to take these kind of measures but it does not reassure me one bit - as a reflexion of our gov't's thinking, it is less than inspiring.
5. i hope
paulo2006 ,   lisbon,portugal   (08.27.07)
I hope the place wont be handled to the PA in another peace process, lol.
6. Bunker Mentality
Logic ,   Israel   (08.27.07)
Seems like Israel's waiting to absorb strikes instead of screwing over the enemies. Some in the government establishment are busy protecting themselves, while the finance ministry nickles and dimes the homefront. Some rich families are (wisely?) buidling underground nuclear flats instead of pools, hoping that any strike will come with ample warning. What I really want to know is: will the 6th fleet come and evacuate the survivors?
7. And what about the rest of the Israeli people?
Richard ,   New York, USA   (08.27.07)
Where will they run to?
8. Great, all 3 of you will survive while the rest of us roast!
Shiloh ,   Jerusalem, Israel   (08.27.07)
Enjoy the ride!
9. new pm offices
chava ,   yerushalayim   (08.27.07)
I don't know whether this underground bunker is necessary --- I think not --- but hidden in this article is the statement that new Prime Minister offices are being built. I remember when this was discussed, and many many people were opposed to it. People here are hungry, sick people need medicines, Sderot schools need to be protected, and on and on. The Prime Minister does NOT NEED a new office complex, even if there are those that WANT one. At the time it was said it was a matter of having something that Israel could be proud of and could bring people to, similar to the White House. I would hope Israel could instead be proud of spending her money on her people's needs, rather than on fancy buildings. Let's get our priorities straight.
10. well then, I feel safe!
ronit   (08.27.07)
we'll all be vaporized or die of radiation, but Olmert will be okay! PHEW! What a relief!
11. Right on #3
Lila ,   Jerusalem, Israel   (08.27.07)
The good people of Sderot live in fear of getting blown up every day and the Prime Minister only cares for and spends millions on himself!
12. Question,,,,
Truthmonger   (08.27.07)

13. BUNKER

15. Specially for Olmert? What travesty of Justice
Obama ,   Washington DC   (08.27.07)
16. bunker
megs ,   amsterdam   (08.27.07)
I would expect that most countries have facilities for a government to survive in case of nuclear disaster. Although I dont necessarily agree that politicians who might be part of instigating it should be the ones to survive it, I think there should be some sort of government left to coordinate things...what kind of things I don't know actually...:)
17. National Command...
Micha ,   H. Hasharon   (08.27.07)
Once again its them and us.....so whats new? Bet the Prime Ministers "guest list " will include the rich and infamous.
18. To 1.
Papsen ,   Earth.   (08.27.07)
Well… Since they have the right contact by being religious leaders, they should not fair radiations…
19. PM's Bunker
Martin K. ,   Ginot Shomron ISRAEL   (08.27.07)
I agree with other talkbackers that even if the PM and his Cabinet survive a nuclear attack, it is unlikely that the State of Israel will survive, so really what's the point. It probably won't require a nuclear attack to finish us off anyways given the barrage of missiles that enemy states are likely to unleash in the next war. This form of attack can destroy our entire infrastructure in a matter of days leaving us in no position to respond. But it's summer, enjoy the good life!
20. I think we're going to need it before 2011!
AJ ,   Tel Aviv   (08.27.07)
21. Jews Being Slaughtered With Rockets
ys ,   Israel   (08.27.07)
Open to all dangers and the self-serving godless government only looks after itself. Putrid, disgusting, evil politicians, worse than our enemies.
22. National Command Bunker being built
Carolyn   (08.27.07)
What will happen to the rest of us? Are we going to be left to die like dogs in the event of a nuke attack on Isreal? If they are going to build bunkers then they should be built for all the citizens not just the politicians and their families(just like I am sure the politicians & families all have their new gas masks already as well as the best bomb shelters that Israel can build). Seems to me that either the entire nation should have access to nuke shelters or noone should, because without the citizens of Israel,Israel will not exist! Who will the Prime Minister be the leader of if the rest of us have been wiped out by Nukes? So Cut the Baloney, and start being a government of the people ,by the people and for the people! Not just a government of politicians for the politicians! Supply the nation for what it needs to survive any war, Gas masks, chem suits, proper bomb shelters that can protect against nukes/chem gas, and fortify hospitals that we all can use, not just the ones the Government ministers use!
23. Cockroaches can survive a nuclear attack without a bunker
Alan ,   SA   (08.27.07)
24. and the...
(08.27.07)
citizens of israel? where is our nuclear bunker....or are we going to save olmert's ass, the village idiot so that he can continue selling israel to the arabs
25. #14
(08.27.07)
then i suggest you take your own advice. start packing your people and ancestors who came to palestine from egypt, arabian peninsula, syria, and all other filthy arab countries to squat on the israeli settlements and benefit from them.....migrant workers, that's all your ancestors. migrant workers under the ottoman rule, who were so poor and saw and opportunity for a better life in the new israeli villages and towns in jewish palestine. from time immemorial by joan peters. read it. it'll open your eyes to who you really came from.
26. Rabbi Yosef declared
Sagi ,   Israel   (08.27.07)
If you pray you won't fry.
27. #7: USA, EU, NZ, ...
Tobias   (08.27.07)
Some weeks ago, I read here that the number of Israelis who try to get an European passport is increasing.
28. #26, #1
Tobias   (08.27.07)
#26: This explaines why Olmert+buddys think they need a new shelter. Rabbi Yosef obviously doesn't need one, because from what he says you may conclude that he must be absolutely fearless. #1: I think that the government and the army chief of staff don't want religious leaders in the bunker who tells them (and the soldiers) not to fight on shabbat. And the religious leaders don't want to go into the nuclear shelter because that would be a sign of unbelieve in divine protection.
29. 26-he also said if you vote for shas, you will have a place
Shiloh ,   Jerusalem, Israel   (08.27.07)
in the world to come. Such BS, he has lost all credibility like the rest of the crownies.
30. You forgot to print the GPS coordinates or blueprints 4 Nasr
meir elazar   (08.27.07)
You forgot to print the GPS coordinates and blueprints for Nasrallah's next hiding place. Some stories might better not be published and this is certainly one of them.
