I would like Mr. Rubinstein to enlighten us on his "knowledge" on pre-Mandela Apartheid South Africa. I grew up in South Africa and lived there for 40 years. One must point out that the Palestinians are, by their own definition, enemies of the State of Israel and many have sworn to destroy the Jewish State. Indeed, some of Israel's Internal Security Laws regarding terrorism might be viewed as somewhat draconian, however, they are no more so than the Patriot Act of the United States of America and the Terrorism Act and the Prevention of Terrorism Act of the UK. Like Apartheid South Africa, the British 2005 Law was passed to circumvent the decisions of the Court of Appeals to allow detention without trial. I can't find the phrase or even a quote of any sort from Danny Rubinstein and I don't believe that he would say that Israel was an "apartheid state". As for the rest of his comment that is a fact: 1) East Jerusalem is annexed to Israel, Arabs in that part are Israelis but a number have Jordanian citzenship as well. 2) Israeli arabs are Israeli full-stop 3) West bank Palestinians have Jordanian citzenship 4) Gazans have no citzenship as Egypt denied it to them in the 19 years they "administered" - note not "occupied" - Gaza. I'm replying to you in conjuction with 47 here. First of all there are no "Jews only" roads anywhere in the West Bank. There are Israeli only roads (IE- Israeli Arabs can use them too, so it has nothing to do with race), but they exist not to subjugate or cause inconvenience to Palestinians, but to get settlers or people travelling from Israel to settlements (not that I support the settlements) to bypass Palestinian villages or towns where they will most likely be stoned, lynched, or kidnapped, as has happened multiple times in the past. What Israel does to the territories, however horrible you want to make it sound, can never measure up to anything lke apartheid. I already proved that the system is not racially based but based on nationality. But on top of that, the best word to describe the territories would be the "o" word, occupation, and nothing even remotely close to apartheid. SA apartheid was so horrible in so many ways that the choice by people to compare Israel to it so readily shows a distinct ignorance in the knowledge of how apartheid, real apartheid, worked. And boycotting Israel to "stop the apartheid" is even more inane, since a boycott will drain Israel of resources necessary for any West Bank pullout.
