31. # 14. We are still here. 59 years later.
Helene ,   Israel   (09.10.07)
Thank you!
32. #18. That's exactly what I mean. Let's stop guessing!!!
Helene ,   Israel   (09.10.07)
No use. Let's look at results. Let's indeed leave it at that!
33. #16, I'm sure it was the first; - )What do you say iaf wife?
Helene ,   Israel   (09.10.07)
Are we on the right track here? - ))) Go give your hubby a hug! He likely deserves it...
34. Bashar = COWARD Chinless Dictator
wissam ,   falasteen   (09.10.07)
The fate of all Arab dictators who fail to protect their people is the dumpster of history, followed by hell, god willing.
35. All who responded to #4!!
Nelson Muntz ,   Springfield   (09.10.07)
did any of you trolls even notice the fake pseudonym? 'W.al-Moallem' R E A D T H E A R T I C L E LOL! Just gos to show you what brainless goats you are - i'm not even an arab in Syria. HA HA!
36. Rally Round the Flag Boys (pt 2)
Dave Levy ,   Burbank. CA USA   (09.10.07)
Decades ago, military experts agreed that the Golan is the best tank trap in the world. However with missiles (Scuds), Syria can hit Israel virtually anytime it wants with b/c warheads. Hez can fire those 20,000 rockets AND Hamas has Qassems and Grads. So, what's an Israeli planner to do? It's all about policy, foreign relations, the EU, the UN, the big 4. If Syria understands the consequences of an attack on Israel, AND Israel fights like a modern army (not as in Lebanon), once those Scuds are fired, Syria has nothing left. Yes it has 600,000 troops, but these are meaningless against Israel's airforce and it's own missiles. It would be a slaughter. Israel's backup are of course 100-400 tactical and strategic nukes, with high fusion explosives (more than Hiroshima). Iran would have to show it's cards. It is not ready to take on Israel and maybe the US. Bottom line: Syria is huffing and puffing right now, trying to mitigate it's problems in Iraq and Lebanon. It's a losing game for it. So sorry, as the Chinese actor used to say.
37. #35: Man, what a sharp eyes you got!
The Doc ,   Haifa, Israel   (09.10.07)
Pity you don't have the brains to match! You're giving too much credit to the post writer, Nelson. The answers were warranted and have nothing to do with the writer's alias who in the best case suffers from a mild case of an unwarranted superiority complex, in the worst, he/she just wasted some bandwidth trying to intimidate people from writing. He's far from the tongue-in-cheek witty writer you seem to allude to. BTW, are you the same Admiral Nelson from Trafalgar? Don't think that his family name was "muntz" though. See? I've noticed! Does THIS take me out from your "list of brainless goats"? Bah! You're a waste of time.
38. land for war
(09.10.07)
you keep the land, you get the war. Israel couldn't have dropped bombs on Syria, but Syria could have. Israel's act is casus belli, but Syria's act is self defense to get its occupied land back. That is simply what the people, other than "normal" Israelis, see.
39. who says israel didn't jettison the fuel tanks ON PURPOSE?
mike ,   israel (formerly usa   (09.10.07)
is there any reason that israel wouldn't do something like that in order to send a message to the syrians? it seems that the fact that syria is so angry and flustered is because they understand perfectly the message israel was trying to send them.
40. Signs of desparation!
Maurice ,   Montreal   (09.10.07)
The Syrian government is so desparete and frustrated with their incapacity to get the Golan back that they are now using totally absurd arguments to save face. As if it works! The world is not fooled. They are just making themsleves look ridicilous.
41. #4 is right! you do not have depth for your "insight"
observer   (09.10.07)
you can seen beyond 2000 years, but you can not see beyond the British mandate. Unless you want to reclaim the rest of Great Syria, go and read what the American friends thought about the southern "toe" of Syria; Palestine: "For the initial claim, often submitted by Zionist representatives, that they have a "right" to Palestine, based on an occupation of 2,000 years ago, can hardly be seriously considered." http://www.gwpda.org/1918p/kncr.htm http://www.ynetnews.com/Ext/App/TalkBack/CdaViewOpenTalkBack/0,11382,L-3447135-3,00.html
42. The Syrians have to say that
Chaya ,   Bat Yam, Israel   (09.10.07)
In order to ratchet down the winds of war, they have to say that we failed. And this is why the Russians joined in the chorus with their condemnation of us - their defense system was reduced to little toys. They know very well what happened as #18 not so subtly told us (hope you didn't expose too much!). We have the best pilots in the world!!
43. #38 before 73 is different from after 73
(09.10.07)
before 73, Israel could see only the objectives and means. After 73, Israel has to look after the Right, as well.
44. #41 the British mandate; the cause or effect
(09.10.07)
those who claim the Golan due to the British mandate; they have to see the mandate as a counter move to the Zionists' greed, and not the reverse.
45. #35, Dear, we all know it's a fake pseudonym AND that the
Helene ,   Israel   (09.10.07)
writer is not an Arab from anywhere. HAD he been one, he would have filled this page with talkbacks since yesterday. His disappearance from the page was clear already yesterday night. I was happy, though, to see in the morning, the discussion springing forth to reply to the writer's stated opinion... so many good and well thought-through talkbacks! Please, don't think that you are the only one with brains around here - it is clear from the quality of the talkbacks, that we ARE ready for whatever is to come... at least mentally!!! Thank you all!!! Especially "Doc from Haifa" and "idf wife" (whoever they really are)! (I actually thought it was a friend of mine who wrote this, therefore the short reply, without going into depth, was the way I chose to reply.) Yours sincerely,
46. Assad likes to talk tough
zionist forver   (09.10.07)
Little Assad really is desperate to turn this thing around in his favour. Israeli jets were testing the system see how good it is there was no way at this stage the government was going to authrosie a direct attack against Syrian infastructure it would have led to the all out war Olmert is scared of. So instead of Syria saying Israei jets managed to penetrate our airspace before going home in one piece they say that the Israelis tried to attackj us but we brave Syrians with our great millitary capabilities stopped them and sent them running. Poor Assad trying to live up to his fathers repuatation as a strong leader who wasnt afriad of Israel the little boy fights his wars by getting terrorists to carry out operations out of Lebanon so when Israel gets dragged into a war it will be on Lebaese soil and against terrorsts and no risk to Syria, Face it Bashar you make a better optomotrist than president and unlike your father unless somebody kills you then you wont be a president for life because you will be overthrown the days of the Alawites are coming to an end.
47. Syrians continue to be professional liars!
DR ,   Florida, USA   (09.10.07)
They lie to their people, they lie to the world and they lie to each other. This is why Israel will always defeat the Arabs in wartime. Who knows why Israeli jets were flying there??? Probably to gain inteligence? It doesn't really matter. Syria will spin everything to look good and string when in reality they are a weak nation, run by weak leaders who are puppets to Iran.
48. Perhaps the IAF released them on purpose to let them know
stacey ,   Jersey   (09.10.07)
we were there. Much like King David did when he crept up on Saul while he was sleeping and cut off a piece of his robe. It wasn't until the next day that David told Saul of this and Saul had to stand there with egg on his face as he looked down and saw that sure enough, a chunk of his robe was gone.
49. FAILED MISSION
NEUTRAL ,   USA   (09.16.07)
Bill, quit drinking that swamp water. The mighty IAF failed. Simply put!. That is why the pilots had to depost it fuel tanks because the Syrian air defense put so much heat on the IAF's ass.
