1. Missionaries , stay away . Friends
charles ,   petach tikva   (09.12.07)
of Israel you are WELCOME . Now to the Rabbis : first a question : do you have the number of Jews who converted to christianity ? i would like to know it . Secondly , why are you fearing those missionaries ? do you think that Jews , even seculars , will convert because of a friendly missionary ? Do you have such a low esteem of the Jewish strenght , even of seculars ? Do you think that thousand of those missionaries can convert me to their faith ? They can be as friendly they want , they can promise me what they can , but they will return empty handed , and maybe go directly to the Rabbanut in order to become Jewish . שנה טובה
2. Another Faux Pas By Rabbinate.
Terry ,   Eilat, Israel   (09.12.07)
With their usual backwards logic, the rabbinate seeks to alienate some of the few friends we have in the world. Instead of seeing this as bringing Christians closer to their Jewish roots, they push them away. If the Rabbinate had been doing their job, we would have nothing to fear from missionaries - but they've done their very best at alienating Jews from their religion with their generally bizarre & obscurantist positions.
3. mind control
mike ,   israel (formerly usa   (09.12.07)
afraid that people might think for themselves?
4. The limits of intelligence
Hiram ,   Paris   (09.12.07)
If the "chief rabbi" of Israel is really involved in giving such instructions,it will show the limites of religious intelligence ! Religion and spirituality is a matter of personal feelings in one's specific relationship with God . What kind of people issue "instructions" to attend or not attend such and such event, specifically religious ? Israel's religious community is looking more and more like "mollahland" in which " clericals" are trying to impose more and more restrictions to "civil liberties" in the name of a "god " , and in fact in the pursuit of their own influence and egoistic satisfaction. This is ridiculous, and certainly contributes to providing a distorted image of Israel and its people. But what to expect from "religious" who are still fighting day after day trying to determine who is elligible for the law of return, who is really an orthodox Jew, and who is really siphoning money out of the State, just because religion provides a daily living !!!! Shame, idiotic, it really show the similarity between Islam and Judaism , when ill-digested, and handled by narrow minded clerics who believe that they are on a mission from God !
5. good job rabbis! alienate the only friends we have left!
(09.12.07)
6. Sukkot Parade
Lou ,   Tel Aviv   (09.12.07)
Why do Israelis always take the negative approach towards the Chief Rabbinat. Israelis are so gullible, thinking these sort of people are our "friends".
7. Only too right
Tom ,   NYC   (09.12.07)
Yes, we still have a few friends in the world, let's insult them and drive them away - good job rabbis /sarcasm off
8. Jews can decide for themselves.
(09.12.07)
And they know how to say NO politely which is what I would do. I have no time for missionaries either but it wouldn't stop me from going.
9. A Plague on all their Houses
Michael ,   Haifa   (09.12.07)
The three major monotheistic religions have been, are and will be a source of conflict and violence throughout human history. If only they would disappear from the face of the earth !!
10. Missionaries must be deported.
Avraham ,   Netivot   (09.12.07)
It's about time that the Rabbinate wakes up & takes on all the missionaries in Israel who are trying very hard to destroy our Jewish neshamas. We welcome all friends of Israel to come & visit, but missionaries must be weeded out & deported, they are NOT our friends.
11. Too many masters
m   (09.12.07)
True is what Isaiah says " O' Jehovah our God, other masters, beside you have acted as owners of us..'And doesn't this go right across the board to all religions. Other men telling other men who they can and can't talk to. Grown up people are being 'dictated' to by men claiming to have authority over their souls. And the majority of them keep the people in ignorance of God's promised new covenant. And do you know why they hate it? because it says " no man will teach his brother know jehovah for they will all know him from the least to the greatest.' Have a look at all these so called religious leaders, even christians who should know better are told "As for the anointing that remains in you , and you do not need anyone to teach you..' God takes away their power. This is all religious leaders Jerimiah tells us " howl you Shepherds and wallow about you majestic ones of the flock, because your days for slaughtering and scattering have been fulfilled.' they want to keep people as their slaves and they break the Law in that it is written " that one replying to a matter before he hears it , it is a foolishness and a humiliation.'
12. What stupidity!
Jonas ,   SAD   (09.12.07)
Is Jews' faith so weak that they cannot face the misionary and tell him to buzz off? This is becoming paranoid. And offensive! I find it offensive that my rabbies don't trust I will defend my Jewish faith!
13. which law?
Tobias   (09.12.07)
"it is forbidden, according to law, for any Jew in the country or the world to participate in the events at the Convention Center or the parades..." According to which law? Certainly no law of the state of Israel, some of whose representatives are participating themselves. Perhaps "law"= Torah ? I don't know how the Torah forbids participating in a Jerusalem parade on Sukkot. Perhaps with much, much interpretation... But then, why took it 28 years for these rabbis to find out that the parade isn't kosher? Why did even a chief rabbi participate in the parade some years ago, if it were against halacha?
14. LUPOLUANSKI...........................................
AVROHOM BILGREI ,   ZION   (09.12.07)
MISSIONARIES ARE NOT A THREAT TO AUTHENTIC TORAH JEWS BUT, IGNORANT,APIKOROS,FILTHY BRAINWASHED CHAREIDI , STANDING IN THE STREET IN MEYER SHARIM ,CLOSING IT DOWN 40 MINUTES BEFORE SHOBBOS ARE A VILE CATALIST FOR WORLD CONTEMPT FOR ULTRA ORTHDOXY BY, VOODOO THEOLIGIST , SOCIALLY RETARDED ,TORAH DESICRATING SCUM ! TO HELL WITH MISSIONARYS, CLOSE DOWN THE PRACTICES OF TORAH DESSICRATING MORTIFYING MISSIONARYS OF TORAH FRAUD !
15. Senseless
OS ,   Israel   (09.12.07)
The Chief Rabbinate keeps showing that they have lost touch with the average Israeli and also with the modern Orthodox - they are doing everything they can to show the chareidim that "we're okay" and can be accepted by the chareidim - if the parade issue is not enough - look at the mess they made of shmitta - supporting Arab and foreign growers and going against "heter mechira" which was good enough for the great Rav Kook, but never good for the chareidim. I for one (and yes I am dati) have lost all respect for them - they are living in their own world, are out of touch with the rest of us, and are doing a great job of alienating almost everyone except for the chareidim who won't accept them anyway. Wake up and get back on track before you miss the train too. And Shana Tova to all
16. what about this!
ruth ,   haifa   (09.12.07)
Yet no one blinks that the lessons your kids learn are washed in Bhuddasim, Hinduism and other religions (esp. Eastern) that so many secular Jews are into these day. For goodness sake, wake up people of Israel and look around you, at your neighbour, your YOGA, YOUR Shiatsu, YOUR meditaional blah blahs and then tell me who is being converted to pagan ways! WAKE UP and smell the Messiah,
17. Avrohom
charles ,   petach tikva   (09.12.07)
They are not a treath , even to sane secular JEWS . What harsh words do you use against those charidim .
18. Terry, they have no "Jewish" roots
David ,   Jerusalem, Israel   (09.12.07)
Terry, once you study in depth the start of xtianity, you will see it is very similar to mithraism. To make a long story short, they took a Jew who taught Torah to only Jews and changed his story into something that resembles a pagan religion. They have been sold a lie. One day hopefully soon, they can come not as xtians but other peoples celebrating Sukkot along with us. In the Tanach Esav "xtianity" is not our friends. The further one digs, the more you learn how much they don't really like the Jews. Hang around a few messianics in the galut and you will see rather quickly. Shana Tova
19. Charles, they know their game very well
David ,   Jerusalem, Israel   (09.12.07)
Hey Charles, of course they have no hope in converting you. In the North American galut the missionaries have done quite a good job of grabbing Jews into their lie. Number I don't know, but the numbers of assimilation are very high and worrysome. I have personally had some rather heated discussions with them in the galut and they have their game plays down to a science. I could get rid of them quite easliy, but many Jews without a strong Jewish background fall for it pretty quickly using our Tanach. I don't exactly agree with banning Jews from the parade, I would say to teach them about the lie so they can defend themselves, but not be afraid to interact. I hope one day this huge mess will straighten out. Until then, Shana Tova

M. Hartley ,   Atlanta, US   (09.12.07)
I don't think it's the fact that they're monotheistic, but that they're "revealed."You have three major religions and all three insist that god revealed him/herself to them much more and better than to those other guys; if not from the outset, then with "improvements" to previous efforts. It's incomprehensible that despite our having come so far in the sciences, all logic goes out the window when it comes to the ultimate logic: god If you believe that god is the creator of the universe, and I do, then how can you believe that this same almighty god can screw up so badly when it comes to his/her creation's pieces de resistance, human beings, and that he/she, for love or money, can't keep his/her stories straight; not just from one group and the other, but worse yet, within those groups and that he/she is so inept getting the point across that thousands of "interpreters" are needed to make sense of it all or as is the case more often than not, to really muck up the works? Of course, if that doesn't do the trick, threats and torture are always good, too. I find it amazing that despite indications that whatever promises he/she is said to have made and either doesn't keep or ignores, nobody ever seems to come to the obvious conclusion that maybe god didn't make any promises, at all, but that, instead of using the good sense he/she did give us, we're mostly, simply and only reaping the consequences of our own stupidity. All hell usually breaks loose, when one bunch gets uppity and makes noises that god revealed him/herself just a little bit more to "us" than to "them." Well, "them" can't have that, and it's off to the crusades just to prove that overbearing bunch wrong. And if at first you don't succeed, try, try, try again. Until and unless you admit that my god is better than yours, my god will just have to keep beating all hell out of your god. Peace? Yeah right, when camels fly.
22. David
charles ,   petach tikva   (09.12.07)
i think that they can only take in their nets people who are already lost to Jewishness , not seculars who can have strong ties to their Jewish roots [ they have ] , who feel Jewish from head to toe , but marginal weak ones . נה טובה
23. Avraham 10 , you should be ashamed !
Hiram ,   Paris   (09.12.07)
Indeed, Jews talking about recommending deportation ! You of anybody , should know what means being persecuted for one's religious belief. Please, be sure to review the history of Christianity...and do not fear from "Missionaries"...Judaism has survived nearly 3 times as long as Christianity...and this in spite of all of the contacts with other people/other religious and cultural customs.....Is wearing Black clothese disturbing your mental balance or are you genuinely so intolerant that you could belong to these Jews being in touch with the Nazi commander of Iran who profess the same theories inherited from Nazi Germany in the black days !
24. SO, YOU THINK THE RABBIS ARE TOTAL BUFFOONS!
BILL HANDEL ,   BROOKLYN,USA   (09.12.07)
Such a characterization is not fair. You failed to observe the standards of good reporting. You interviewed the Christians, but you did not interviewi Rabbi Amar and ask for his rebuttal
25. Welcome, Friends of Israel
Kyle ,   Southpark, CO, USA   (09.12.07)
We should welcome the true friends of Israel and not shun them. Jews who know and understand Tanakh and are secure in their faith can withstand these lame temptations.
26. Religion is a delusion
Ali ,   Riyadh   (09.12.07)
Before any one trikes.. I am a proud atheist and a regular reader of Israeli newspapers. I noticed the talkbacks on the Khamenie masturbation subject which clearly states that this is stupid and so forth. Now, just like the Khameni mind control and theocracy, we see this.. banning a parade!!!!! This is far more stupid than the Masturbation issue.. Unfortunately we only see what w want to see.. Religion is a mas delusion.
27. Jews Follow the Orthodox Rabbis
JK ,   NYC   (09.12.07)
Jews listen to the Orthodox Rabbis, to do otherwise is a sin.
28. How much for the lentils?
H.H.M ,   Jerusalem   (09.12.07)
The rabbinical uncalled for intervention is even counter productive and showing weakness from the orthodox Jewish point of view. - If the chief rabbis were really concerned about Judaism and believer in it they would not feel themselves being asked even to think to interfere in such a harmless populistic event. Being afraid of missionaries as expressed here and as reason given by the objecting rabbis shows that they are NOT SURE OF JEWS TO CHANGE THEIR BELIEVES. If so from their point of view it is their greatest failure. This rabbinical decision is another anti Jewish State political position which should be superceded by r e a l political public necessities.
29. the Christian lovers of Israel should be celebrated but
dante ,   uk   (09.12.07)
but, these true friends of Israel should know that missionary activity directed at the remnant of the Jewish people is not welcome. one must thank so many dedicated and sincere Christians who support Israel without regard to their personal convenience or comfort. no praise is too great for these friends>>
30. the rabbis are right.
debra ,   usa   (09.12.07)
why would a jew want to march in a parade filled with xtians on a jewish holiday in israel? they wouldn't. this is disrespectful behavior toward the jews by these missionaries. i support the rabbis.
