"People, the title of this missive is a direct quote from our mighty "vice" president, shown on national news just a few months ago. He was taped singing this to the tune of the Beach Boys pop hit 'Barbara Ann'." Hey David, if you're going to lecture us as if you're so intellectually superior at least try to get your facts correct. The singing of the above song that you so intelligently qouted was not sung by Dick Cheney, but John McCain. And I'd say the country that is publicly flaunting it's enrinching of uranium while at the same time stating that Israel should be wiped off the map is more likely the country doing the "inciting." And since you're so smart, please enlighten us as to what either CHina or Russia have to gain by joining us? At present CHina has signed a 25 year agreement to buy Iranian oil and Russia is reaping billions selling advanced weapons to a terrorist state trying to become a terrorist state armed with a nuclear weapon. Are you missing the fact that Germany is publicaly saying one thing while privately telling us to have at these jerks? As usual they want us to take the heat because they're to big of pussies to admit publicaly what unfortunately needs to be done and help in the cause. I'd bet there's a fair amount of German hi-tech manufacturing equipment they'd like to see turned to rubble about now. Image, Germany selling the Iranians the machinery needed to wipe Israel off the map. How might that look on the international stage? I'd say you should beware of the danger you pose to your glass house when calling others "daft."
62. A million dollar bid for no attack!
Ari ,   Jerusalem   (09.13.07)
Just talking about an intension makes it stupid to carry out an attack unless the US is in a process of self destruction! I think leaking such rumor is an attempt to force Iran to rethink its stance regarding its nuclear ambitions!
63. Israel has 100s of nukes, Iran has 0
R ,   Florida   (09.13.07)
US can't go to war with every country that is trying to protect itself from Israel's nukes and WMDs.
64. i like angela merkel and gw bush
de sterix   (09.13.07)
so they are not perfect but who would do any better than they are trying ?they'd both make good jews----if they were israels pm .either 1 would not be putting up with the nonsense that ours? is too weak to resist and say no to israels enemies go to h**l .in fact from what i perceive he has tripped over 1 of those lines that cannot be crossed and seems to be stuck on the other side of it.someone with guts and that fears G-D better do something about the mad leaders of iran before the m.e. is involved in a nuclear exchange which would not stop here.
65. #39 Steve - About that exception
Mr. Knowitall ,   Frostbite Falls, MN   (09.13.07)
I must disagree that the bombing of Iran's nuclear facilities would not expand the war, for I believe that if we were to do so the Iranians would rally to fight against the US in Iraq and Afghanistan and turn the whole region into a potential world war. Not that I don't believe that GW is stupid enough, I just don't think he has any political clout left, and I'm not sure that even the military would supports such a reckless move. Iran is no threat to the US or Europe as they are far smarter than GW and know that a nuclear war is a no win situation, but their need for nuclear power and to be self sufficient is a real and valid need. And BTW, the US was the country that seeded the Iranian nuclear program during the Shah's dictatorial rule, so we have nobody but ourselves to blame.
66. I think Bush will be bombing Iran before year's end...
DL ,   San Francisco, CA   (09.13.07)
Seeing that Iran is not only the mastermind behind our extremely slow progress in Iraq, but is also threatening Israel with Armageddon, I could see the destruction of the Iranian nuclear program taking place in the very near future: by year's end, if not sooner. I also wouldn't be surprised if the US singlehandedly attempted to wipe out as many Iranian airplanes, tanks and missiles as possible in the process, blowing their military back to the stone age in order to allow for resistance groups to topple the Ayatollah. His popularity level is about as high now as the Shah's was when the Shah fell, and the Shah wasn't nearly as barbaric...
67. This is a joke
Adom ,   Israel   (09.13.07)
A declaration of war would require congressional approval, and there is absolutely no way in hell that would happen with a democratic majority in both houses

Yeah, they might not fear the U.S. Army, but they sure as hell fear the Marine Corps.
69. Who's Problem?
Rick ,   AC, New Jersey   (09.13.07)
This is Europes problem and they want the US to take the lead and get beat up by the world press. Europeans are afraid of the Islamic backlash they ignor in their own country....................
70. Iran- LOOK AT THE HISTORY PEOPLE!
Nanaa ,   LA, USA   (09.13.07)
#12_ First of all I don't think your statement of 20% of public favor for Iran's regime is accurate. Besides that an attack on Iran is going to harm the Iranian civilians and innocent families a whole lot more than the government. (Who has had the most amount of casualties/death in Iraq?- The Iraqis.) Even if the monkey or some mollah's are killed that wont do much for regime change. It is not a country of a one man show there is a whole group and it doesn't disappear by killing one or a few, it's happened before. Don't you think this has all been in the plans all along for US to gain territory control of this Oil rich region??????????????? OPEN YOUR EYES PEOPLE!!!! I wouldn't be surprised if a fake attack in the name of Iran gets done to ignite this whole thing off. Come to your senses people, look at the history of the area and the US interests and policies.

the citizens of iran's opposition to the present insane regime leading them to severe poverty, drug abuse, backwardness, opression and constant fear and lack of freedeom works very well for the usa and its allies in the region. it is not only the young in iran (70% of population that is severily unemployed), but other arab nations would like nothing better than to see iran's regime eliminated; saudi arabia, egypt, lebanon, the golf states, etc... israel can be sure to participate at least from the air and turkey will do nothing. the russians will not get involved since it is practically election time and their flageling economy cannot sustain a regional war. russia has never actively participated even when the arab states surrounding israel well decisevly defeated along with the russian influence in the middle east. russia's influence there is monetary; buiding iran's nuclear facilities and aiding the enemy with armaments and military technology. they will do nothing if faced with the iranian regime's collapse. the most important thing is that i am sure 100% of iranian citizenry is behind the abolition and disolvement of this regime. the thing to be careful of is not hurting the population and civic infrastructure at all. something like that will embolden the iranians, who are a very proud people and nationalistic, to support this regime, which will work to our detriment. hit the nuclear installations only and military operations exclusively.

i don't recall israel ever asking the usa support for the israeli bombing of the iraqi osirak nuclear plant. and we suceeded! the usa is not going to do it for israel at all. israel can take care of itself. the usa will do it for mankind.

75. Another attak on a sovereign country.
Hossein K ,   Seattle, Wa   (09.13.07)
I think some Israelis should stop cheering the rouge US administration to attack Iran. I do not believe US will suffer as much with consequence of this war as Israel. Majority of the Iranian do not support the Islamic regime, however, if the US attacks Iran and starts killing innocent Iranians to compensate for their incompetence in Iraq and Afghanistan the whole region will catch fire and everyone will suffer. There has not been single credible evidence that Iran has been directly or indirectly involves in undermining the current Iraq government, however U.S. has done everything to intimidate and provoke Iran to some stupid reaction to legitimize U.S aggression toward Iran. To attack an independent country based and roumers and innuendos from the same people who boosted the WMD clams in Iraq and cheered the Bush administration to invade Iraq is irresponsible and criminal. Hossein K.
76. Alot of Talkbacks are stupid...
A-Rizzle   (09.13.07)
OF COURSE the US has a plan to attack Iran, and of course Iran has a plan should the US attack. They would both be ridiculous gov'ts if they didn't. Fact of the matter is that Iran hid its nuclear programme which is a breach of international law ( by contrast Israel, India, Pakistan are not signatories like Iran to Nuclear Nonproliferation Treaty so are not bound under int'l law). Iran and the US are already fighting in Iraq, so an escalation to a full on war is a likely scenario. As far as the EU, they are also the ones who thought that they could bring Hitler into the fold if they just talked to him. The EU method is racist in my opinion (one assumes that only WESTERN actions can decide whether one is at war or not, everyone is incapable of being responsible). Iran has been squaring off with teh US for a long time. I PERSONALLY don't think an attack on Iran is wise.. WHY? Because within 2 weeks the people in the west will scream 'quagmire' and 'no war' and work to halt a chain reaction that must be complete (you can't UN-INVADE..much like Iraq, doesnt matter if invasion was right or wrong 4 years ago, the situation today must be dealt with to secure the best situation). So unless the EU and the US are united in taking the Ayatollahs on and supporting the Iranian majority who wish to change their rule, then don't draw swords. On the other hand, a nuclear Syria and Iran is not in the interest of Israel (or the US) and therefore they may take care of their interest (much like Osirak). It is their right.
77. Hossein
Richard ,   London UK   (09.13.07)
Exactly. All this 'stuff' about Iran is the same stuff about the WMDs. It's lies. Why is everyone so intent on causing more mayhem and destruction in the Middle East? I don't want to hear anymore crap about Terrorists. Everyone who kills and destroys is a terrorist - it's not just the preserve of Muslims. I don't like the taliban but then i don't like the thought of Saudi Arabia (the US and Britain's great friend) or Kuwait or Abu Graib or Guamtanamo. Is not building walls around entire states and incarcerating people without any recess to habeus corpus terrorism?

Bombs Away !
79. #75's "sovereign country" speech.
Hamburger ,   Hamburg   (09.13.07)
You are basic your whole talkback on how Iran is independant and sovereign country, and how lsrael will suffer most. Well, this "sovereign country" believes that lsrael (another sovereign country, by the way) has no right to exist, and should lran acquire nukes, lsrael will suffer no less. So what does lsreal have to lose here?
80. #67: But The Person In The White House Is
emanon ,   USA   (09.13.07)
Commander in Chief of the combined military. That means whoever sits in the Oval Office can play Army for real. Just a reminder: Korea, Viet Nam (Southeast Asia), Gulf I, Gulf II and the current mess in Iraq / Afganistan have never been declared a war by congress, yet US troops died / are dying there. Bottom line: CINC says "Go" and the military says "Where?".
81. ALAN..........NOT CONFUSING AT ALL#38
MAHMOOD ,   LONDON-UK   (09.13.07)
Alan, good morning! I knew exactly what I was writing. The article clearly indicates reluctance on the part of Germany to joing hands with the USA in imposing further sanctions.Whate wrong did I do?Coming to now USA becoming adventourous in the Persian Gulf is another matter,of course.Isn't it?When it comes to that we shall see what happens, yah? Why get worked up,Alan?
82. War War 3 is coming
John ,   London,UK   (09.13.07)
This is a dangerous plan by Bush to strike Iran. US has secret plan to send Iran nuclear program back 10 years. Some experts think bombing will not stop the program, and might even accelerate it. Iran would then be justified to produce nukes. Iran wants US to attack its nuclear installation so that it has an excuse to unleash hell on Israel. This is why Iran is so acting so recklessly. Iran knows that now it has the technology to make nuclear weapons. And nothing no amount of bombing can prevent Iran from producing nukes. Iran has allies Syria, Lebanon and Hezbollah who all also want to finish Israel. They just need an excuse. US bombing of Iran is most likely to end in end of Israel. It will ignite an unpredictable region into a war which may go on for 10 years ending with elimination of Israel. Israel will not be able to keep war going with Hezbollah, Syria and Iran for 10 years. No matter how much US supports Israel like in Lebanon war of 2006, Israel will fail and this time it will be wiped off the map. Iran President is itching for a fight with Israel. He has vowed to hit Israel with big surprise as soon as US bombs land on Iranian soil. Analysts say World War 3 is near ,and so is end of Israel.
83. A-rizzle
Richard ,   London UK   (09.13.07)
The EU did not think it could bring Hitler into the fold by talking to him. Why? Because the EU did not exist in the thirties. The European Iron and Coal community was founded (after WW2) as a trade community and also as a menas of unifying Europe so that there would no longer be any more wars in Europe. And it's worked.
84. #63 is proof that war is coming!
DR ,   Florida, USA   (09.13.07)
When you have half-witted people like this in the world, there is not chance for peace. These idiots will believe anything an Imam will tell them. Israel is the number one threat in the world? Are you on drugs???
85. #83 Isarael will not lose this war!
William Lorraine ,   Los Angeles USA   (09.13.07)
You're right about one thing, this is a world war but its one YOU will lose! Islamic fascists are good at slitting reporters throats, planting bombs in restaurants... but their countries produce absolutly nothing of value to the world. We have the power to wipe your sorry asses off this planet if you go too far with your blind terrorism. I Hope you will soon be deported to the nearest Islamic republic to wait for your 12th imman!

Iran can't sink American carriers. They might blow up a shopping mall in the US with one of their terrorist cells however. The West has insane immigration policies that allow these morons in. Deport radical islam NOW and we won't have anything to worry about.

You see thru naatural eyes . Things will go extremely bad for USA Babylon and Israel will finally call out to their God when the U.S. is no more. Thats the bigger picture. Israel has a surprise up their sleeve that you and so many others ignore. How do you think she has survives all these previous wars ? Israel will be hurt but not defeated a painful punishment for trusting in her IDOL America. By the time this is over ,the nations of the wolrd will know who the God of Israel is and Islam will be in the ash heap of history. http://averyheavystone.blogspot.com/

R.Alkalai ,   USA   (09.13.07)
John, We are already in WW3- and have been for some time. But, I guarantee you that if the US hits Iran, they will be in no position to produce anything. They will be leveled. The US will take out 1,200 targets. The largest naval armada in history is positioned all over the region. There are well over 100 US nuclear armed, technologically superior destroyers, battleships, subs, and carriers that have the means to take down whatever can be launched at them- be it amphibious, land, or air, and for extended periods of time. The radiation levels alone can finish Iran off. They have no air defense- all the equipment purchased from Russia can be breached- Israel just proved that. They are vulnerable. China purchased a great deal of their technology from Israel. Iran's jets are antiquated, their navy is paltry. Their only strength is on land- and that won't be an issue- the US will attack by air. And, in regard to nuclear and radiation- that "giant hole" in Syria's desert is no doubt leaking lethal amounts of radiation into the Euphrates River and surrounding areas. No wonder Assad is not saying much and North Korea is nervous. Have you any idea what that means? Israel will be able to take out Syria. Israel has many "surprises", too. She leads the world in technology, and just provided a demonstration over Syria. If Hezbollah, Hamas and others attack, she can deal with them, too, The Arabs always like to brag about what they have, so others will fear them. Israel does not- she has always kept her hand hidden- that is why you folks should be worried. Also, the US has an additional nuclear armed carrier and full compliment group positioned opposite the shores of Lebanon. Do you honestly think they are going to be able to defeat that?

Hows it goin. Ya ive been working keeping busy. But yeah i dont know about your question. Why are american weapons in Israel? Or Egypt? Or Jordan? Or Saudi Arabia? Or Iraq? Or Turkey? Or Afghanistan? Or Pakistan? Or Ethiopia?
90. About those iranian weapons in Syria.
AR ,   USA   (09.14.07)
Most likely their headed to Lebonan and some to syria. Getting ready for bush and olmert to start the war. Cant blame them for arming themselves. But if your talking about the iranian weapons israel supposedly bombed in syria then i will have to get back to you on that. Im confused are they iranian, russian or north korean. Maybe we should ask the turks they might have some better info. Aww im getting confused i guess so are the politicians in Israel and US who have no clue who to blame for their own actions.
