What people DON'T understand, with all this "LOST TRIBES" crap, is that there were NEVER 10 Lost Tribes. Not even ONE. The people divided into the Kingdoms of Judah and Israel. Many families kept individual lineage records, but over hundreds of years they became hoplessly blurred, except for a select few, like Levites (and Kohanim, who were not a separate tribe, but a Levitical offshoot). And even there, there was "slippage". Simeon and Benjamin amalgamated with Judah, and became "lost" from almost the very beginning, to make the people of, and kingdom of, Judah. In the Assyrian transportations, only the prominent inhabitants were taken, and most did not return, but stayed around Babylon, becoming part of the great Jewish Babylonian population, their individual "tribe" being "lost". But the people themselves were NOT lost. Levi and Joseph had NO tribal area from the beginning. Manasseh and Ephraim were not, strictly speaking "sons of Jacob". So there were REALLY NO "Lost Tribes". Yes why not!? Many could be of Jewish descent. Over time, such an amalgamation could well occur. After all, the "Palestinians" are about as authentically Arab as an ethnic Japanese pupil in Brazil who is made to learn about his "forefather" Montezuma! Already many speak good Hebrew, which had been the language not only of the Israelites but of all the nations inhabiting the country. Even the Philistines, supposedly the ancestors of today's Palestinians, dropped their foreign tongue in favour of Hebrew very quick.

There is no historical basis for linking the ancient Israelites with the so-called 'Palestinian' Arabs, especially Moslems. Regardless of whether some Arab somewhere has an ancestor that was Jewish and then Arabized and Islamized and absorbed, the fact of the matter is: The 'Palestinians' did not form out of a Jewish CORE, but from Arab fellahin. There are long-settled Arabized Christians who can easily adapt in the Israeli urban environment. But the Arab Moslem identity of the 'Palestinians' is completely resistant to absorption within a Hebraic Jewish milieu. That is the bottom line.

Only when it became advantageous to be called Palestinian did Arabs that now lived in the Area and those that left the Area begin to call themselves Palestinian.
