1. What a Hogwash Article!!!
Ginette ,   Toronto, Canada   (10.06.07)
"Stories" like this, makes you aware where YNet loyalty lies...at the bottom of the Arabian pit. "The secret's out" "Pure gold for terrorists" SAY WHAT?? Doesn’t YNet or some of their writers realize that as wonderful tool as Goggle is, this technology images from out of space works for everybody? For Israel and their surrounding countries! As far as "I see" it, it works for Syria, Iran, Libya, etc...All those "wonderful countries" one would be unfortunate to visit. With all the crap YNet publishes, this one takes the cake! The writer mentions: "It will show him the target from up close and enable him to identify a nearby building where he can observe the target, as well as escape routes." I have got real news for you...there are very few escape routes that Israeli Intelligence won't find.
2. Stop whining, it's not called Google Israel.
Khalid ,   Gaza City   (10.06.07)
Every country on Earth is exposed, not just yours. Nobody has an unfair advantage.
3. Umm, this is not new
tFighterPilot   (10.06.07)
Google earth exists for quite some time now...
4. cool
elijah ,   Beirut   (10.06.07)
How life is beautiful for someone who doesnt have something to hide.
5. Murphy's Law
Daniel Jackson ,   Boulder CO   (10.06.07)
Murphy's Law applies here perfectly. In military matters, Murphy's Law states that Tracers work both ways. Here too the law applies. ANYONE can see what EVERYONE else has and how many. GOOGLE EARTH also allows the world to count the number of jets and attack ships Iran has (or, in this case does NOT have) or where its airports and their security bunkers are located. Terrorist camps are equally naked. Information for all changes the market for totalitarianism, which is the fast breeder for terrorism.
6. The oviious is overlooked!
GET REAL ,   USA   (10.06.07)
It seems everyone but the article author knows Israels strategic facilities are hidden underground just like every other country!
7. Shhhhh the secrets out!!!
(10.06.07)
What a wanker Thanks for possibly the most useless piece of info Ive read about all week Go home mate
8. And they didn't have images before?
Ilan ,   Ariel   (10.06.07)
Of course they did. Google doesn't send satellites into space, they just use already available commercial vendors and provide an easy to use interface. Since terrorists have state sponsors they already had all these images. The detail is getting better, but that is nothing new.
9. FUD
david ,   zichron yaacov   (10.06.07)
Stop spreading FUD. Google Earth and Google Maps are not uncovering anything that hasn't been known for a long time. According to your logic, even a simple map would be a security threat.
10. It's only fair
John ,   US   (10.06.07)
If anything, this helps level the playing field.
11. Relax! Even Google Earth cannot spot haredi eating pork!
Jon ,   SAD   (10.06.07)
So some secrets WILL remain hidden... :)
12. These images have been on Google Earth for at least 2 years
Matt ,   Israel   (10.06.07)
And anybody with enough money can buy commerically available satellite images for any country. Israel still has a strategic edge in this when it comes to arab states, since israel' satellites provide real-time information at much higher image resolutions. I'm pretty sure israel didn't use google earth to analyze syria's now destroyed nuclear installations or whatever was there beforehand.
13. what an idiot!
Israel   (10.07.07)
14. Back to the USSR
Irene ,   USA, Florida   (10.07.07)
Author is obviously a Russian transplant to Israel. Unfortunately, many immigrants, hating the system of total control and spying on each-other, somehow managed to absorb these very qualities themselves. The author's paranoia is the result of his early childhood trauma. Let's forgive him, and tall him that it is all right to watch Google Earth, it doesn't discriminate against Israel. Actually, Google was created by nice Jewish kids. No antisemitism here, either.
15. #11
mark ,   ca   (10.07.07)
Noooo ! ;-)
16. Hey you knowitall, I have some news for you...
Jack Klaber ,   R.Hasharon, Israel   (10.07.07)
Give Ron ben Yishay some credit. He knows his stuff. What's more, since recently not only Tel Aviv is available at high(er) resolution, but also the rest of the country. I now can identify my own house (no, I'm not telling you where, I do not want a long-range kassam on my roof.....) I hope that my fellow countrymen will not upload telltales of prima facie innocent "points of interest" so that people who do not need to know will not know what they should not need to know.
17. Wow!
Eugene E. Kulikov ,   Moscow, Russia   (10.07.07)
I simply can't believe that I am reading such an article in our age! :) No, really. do you believe that the satellite imaging can be a REAL breach to Israel security? The obscurantism and conspirology, that was the words for such views. Cheers from Moscow, Dr. Kulikov
18. The article writer is right.
Helene ,   Israel   (10.07.07)
It doesn't matter for how long these pictures have been visible on the Google Earth nor from which year they are. They shouldn't be there at all, for obvious reasons. Could see my parents dug up garden from a cpl years ago... how funny... yikes!!!!!!!
19. c'mon! the resolution...
Andre   (10.07.07)
over israeli strategic facilities is so low!
20. Attack Google
Scott ,   San Francisco, CA US   (10.07.07)
I am sure that Israel must have some very good Hackers they can use to go after Google's networks. After they attack Google I am sure that Google would come to some compromise whereby they would not have such satellite pictures on their system. If Mossad put financial backing behind such an effort I am sure it would be successful. Heck perhaps the mere rumor that this was what Israel was planning to do would cause Goggle to change its policy.
21. Maybe Google Executives would like some Photos
Scott ,   San Francisco USA   (10.07.07)
Maybe if Google Executives were emailed "a day in the life of " pictures of their families (pictures of their children walking to school, sitting in their classrooms, walking home from school) they will decide that it is best to remove that feature when it comes to Israel.
22. laser beam
jonathan ,   ny, usa   (10.07.07)
Why not blast laser beams from sensitive sites, thus destroying the optics of the satellites?
23. What did you think?
ralphsrant1 ,   USA   (10.07.07)
Of course hamas is useing it to target kibbutzim in the South it is not rocket science. I sent a email to a kibbutznik in one of the affected areas a friend of mine about this same observation a few months ago I am sure nothing was done. http://ralphsrant1.blogspot.com/
24. This is the case
Roman ,   LA,USA   (10.07.07)
When person without any knowledge in this area makes a noise from nothing.
25. Google CEO's
ralphsrant1 ,   USA   (10.07.07)
Well one thing for sure if something happens the Google CEO's will be targets of a lot of lawsuits especially if people are killed because of this. http://ralphsrant1.blogspot.com/
26. google maps
Philip A. Robinson ,   framingham, MA U.S.A   (10.07.07)
I read the google alarmist article and went to google maps on the internet. Asked for three cities and got an arrow locater pointing to a blank map outline of Israel at the approcimate location of each city or community
27. take a pill
varera ,   israel   (10.07.07)
It will help you to relax. satellite pictures of Israel are out for ages, so Google Map is not adding any additional threat.
28. Hmmm.. Google offices in Haifa
Barron ,   Israel   (10.07.07)
A nest of spies? A self-inflicted target?
29. I am sure all the maps were available even before GoogleEart
Alex ,   Haifa, Israel   (10.07.07)
I am sure all the maps were available even before GoogleEarth was launched!
30. Google
Ben ,   NC   (10.07.07)
Google Earth is not a threat to Israel. Similar images can be purchased from a number of commerical vendors, Ikonos. Moreover, the new politically correct state of Israel does not fight terrorists. Instead, they make worthless concessions to them. Basically, when terrorists spit in the face of Israelis, Israelis call it rain. In short, Google Earth is not a threat to Israelis. Israelis are a threat to themselves. Ben
