Never ? Mark, please read your Iranian history. Israel, in all of its thousands of years of historical context , has never tried to conquer the world...like say...Persia. Read about all the minorities that are being subjucated in present day Iran. I forgot, your already a dhimmi in the UK

Why Jews? If the Palestinians want a homeland so bad let them go if they don;t want to go back to Arabia from whence they came. The Jews originated in the Judea and Samaria and that's where they belong with a united Jerusalem as their capital. If it was good enough for David and Solomon, it is good enough for today's descendents of these two.

34. #25 Sarah - Who really started the terror? Get your facts
meir elazar   (10.14.07)
Sarah, Get your facts right. The Palestinians under Haj Amin Al-Husseini started the terror with the massacres of Jews ih 1920, 1929, 1936 etc. http://www.jewishvirtuallibrary.org/jsource/History/narratives.html http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/1929_Palestine_riots Massacres ultimately gave way to prolonged attacks during the period of Israel's independence along with attacks by its neighbors and several more wars in 56, Six Days War in 67, Yom Kippur in 73, etc. We even suffered attacks at the Munich Olympics, on synagogues in South America, and numerous other places around the world. While our proud sons have benefited mankind with cures to numerous diseases, contributions to science, arts, etc. We see our cousins engaged in terror almost everywhere in the world from Bali to Abu Sayaf in Phillipines, terror on trains in India to terror on subways of London to Spain to Russia at the Moskov theatre and the massacre of children of Beslan, to NY and Washington on 9/11. And when they aren't trying to kill others, they are killing each other and destroying Holy sites such at the 3000 year old Budha in Afghanistan, the Mosque of Samarah, the Tomb of Joseph, the Peace synagogue of Jericho, etc. And the bloody coup in Gaza and constant terrorist attacks against civilians in Iraq, etc. On the other hand Israel was unprepare for Intifada I and gave in to terrorism. But the PALs decided that if it worked once let's try it again in 2000 with Intifada II. Israel got tired of seeing her innocent civilians blown up on busses, in the Park Hotel of Netanya, in the cafeteria of Hebrew University of Mt. Scopus, in the grocery of Kiryat Yovel, etc. So Israel devise highly effective counter-terror methods that successfully contain the terrorists in their backyards - not ours. So now it is over a year since the terrorism managed to penetrate our defenses and have a major terrorist attack on us. Instead they now have attacked in Egypt and Jordan and our neighbors understand full well what they are dealing with and they have no mercy. Remember who assasinated Sadat. So your comments on our treatment of Palestinian is totally out of historical and realistic context of any kind and as such totally irrelevant.

I think YOU ought to get your facts right. Hajj Amin was under the colonilal rule of the British. He only did what he was told. During the Ottoman empire no Jews or Christians were reppressed by local rulers. Everything else that you recounted in your long comment came after 1948 and susequent to Balfour Declaration. Divide and rule. That's been the British govnt's policy. Before 1948, Jews were happy wherever they lived, in Palestine, Europe, Iran and Arab countries. Politics is a dirty game, let's admit it.

Sarah you are a leftist idiot. Never have I seen so much BS in talkbacks as I have seen in yours. Stop blasting my country. How does this concern you---- are you a Jew, are you Israeli---no right----so mind your own business!!!!!!!!!
37. #35 Sarah - The massacres of 20, 29, 36 were after 48?
meir elazar   (10.16.07)
Absolutely brilliant Sarah! The massacres of 1920, 1929 in Tzefat, and 1936 happened after 1948? By the way the Balfour declaration came on Nov 2nd, 1917. By the way Haj Amin al Husseini posed with Hitler in 1936 as they shared the same mutual goal of annihilating the Jews. Your statements are totally ludicrous. Britain could not control either the Jews or the Arabs and subsequently threw the matter before the UN. Jew were happy when Arabs rioted and butchered them with knives and axes in Hevron. Where in the world did you come up with such a fiction. None of your facts are correct.
38. #35 Sarah - I dare you to cite any reputable sources!
meir elazar   (10.16.07)
I will be more than happy to provide URL's and defend every statement that I made. Your "facts" are absurd. Your chronology that 1920, 29, and 36 came after 1948 baffles all logic. I defy you to provide any bonafide historical sources to support any of the ridiculous claims that you make.

For greater insight see my book "Jews in Blue" about the real Jewish men and women who are cops and protect us every day.
41. wow did you ever miss the point!
Socialist Jew ,   Queens, New York   (01.26.09)
The book treats ZIonism and Israel with much disdain. Most Sitka Jews in the book think the idea of a Jewish state in Palestine is ridiculous, and the people depicted as planning for the re-establihsment of Israel are nothing short of monsterous. I LIKED the book, but DO NOT try to sugar-coat it.

John E. Welsh ,   Kake, Alaska   (03.11.09)
In addition to playing fast and loose with Jewish History, Micjhael Chabon does a sloppy job with Alaskan geography, cities and cujlture. The book is an exploitation of Jews and of Tlingits. Chabon does have sustained runs of stylistic flash and originality, but his novel is an abuse of humanity. At moments, he carries off insightful interchanges between Landsman and Lansman's wife. None of the characthers rise beyond caricature, however. The book is a degradation of the novel.

The location was chosen because those islands were the ones included in a real historical plan that Congress rejected during WW2. The US couldn't even allow Jews to temporarily take refuge on islands off the coast of what was then merely a territory! As strange as it may seem, that is how it was.
