Why is it that Ynet and co keep up this farce that we live in a democratic state with a functioning justice system. It is pathetic that these socalled justice people and police put up this side show at taxpayer expense, while we all know the outcome. Olmert isnt the first and he probably wont be the last Israeli primeminister involved in some kind of coruption scandel. We need new laws to try and make sure we get a better kind of leader in the future. There must be no criminal record of any type either in Israel or abroad. Business deals need to be transparent so if there is ever a problem in future for the good of both the public and the politician if he is inocent then then he can clear himself. If a politician is involved in a criminal act like a sex scandal he should be prosecuted not be allowed to take early retirement and provided with a nice big pension and security proivided by the taxpayer. You commit a crime you get treated the same as everybody else you dont get eased out the back door quietly. There needs to be a second chamber like they do in countries like the US & UK. In the current system a PM can buy Knesset support especialy when it comes to forming coalition government if they want this government they are coaltion partners with to survive then they support when nececary they just put a price on that support. With a second chamber that has the right to object to government policies and insisit on amendments before they can become law. These are the sort of laws that will prevent coruption in future. 1) Electoral reform Isrel is the only country in the world that has a system as stupid as this which not only creatres unstable and bad government but it damages democracy. 2) A second chamber to make sure the government doesnt get put in a position where it has a license to do anything it likes no matter how bad they are for the country. 3) A written constiution drawn up by indipendent experts and any serving politician cannot have any say in what or does not go into it. Lets start with asking Israelis to send in proposals of things they would like to see in a constiution and use that as a starting point to create a modern and fair constiution which we can use as a tool to help avoid coruption in future. The only 2 countries in the world right now without written constiutions are Israel and the UK. The UK at least has hundreds of years of history and precidents to look back to the modern state of Israel has non of that and it doesnt have a histoty of good government. The Americans made themselves a constitunation from the day they declared indipendence over 200 years ago so in the 21st century its time a country like Israel joined the developed world and didnt look like a corupt entity.

Please consider our plea Not to close down! YNet shutting down? Haaretz is reporting that YNet, Yediot Aharonot's English site, is shutting down in the next few days because it has not generated sufficient revenue. Top Yediot management refused to comment on the Haaretz report and there is no mention of it on YNet's site.
