1. Difficult choice...
Adam ,   Ramat Gan   (10.16.07)
Unfortunately, this is a very difficult situation. However, since Arad has been in captivity for more than 20 years it is likely that he was murdered some time ago, a lot of evidence points to this. However, there is still a possibility that Regev and Goldwasser are still potentially alive. Therefore we should focus on them until we are almost certain that they have met the same fate as Arad, even if it is at the expense of the latter. It is very difficult to write this and I know that it is important for Arad's family to have information about him but we need to concentrate on the living...for now.
2. We Are Suckers.
Terry ,   Eilat, Israel   (10.16.07)
The whole logic of how we deal with these situations is wrong. We try to be reasonable, to weigh our actions, to play the game. But this is a game we cannot win. When you are in a game you cannot win, the right thing to do is change the game. A new game with your rules, a game you can win. When you deal with such unscrupulous, cruel, miserable creatures like these savages, you must be ruthless. They must be hurt, punished, made to feel pain. No negotiations, no threats, only disproportionate retaliation. There is no "reasonable calculation" of costs & consequences - only non-stop punishment until we win.
3. utter cruelty
milton ,   chicago   (10.16.07)
the fathomless and abysmal cruelty shown by the enemy in not keeping the family of ron arad informed is an act to be forever remembered by those who have responsibility for the state.
4. israeli negotiating tactics
alun ,   london uk   (10.16.07)
Israel.s negotiating tactics are stupid they should follow the film Proof of Life starring Russel Crowe basisically no concessions should be made till Israel has proof of life of the hostages and then insist on Red cross access if this is not forthcoming rights should be withdrawn from terrorists prisoners until they comply with Israel demands if this does not work iSRAEL SHOULD DECLARE THAT IT WILL PLAY BY THE RULES THAT hAMAS and Hezbollah play by
5. #2: Frustrated 'jewish' right-wing (pt. 1)
abdullah ,   ashkenaz   (10.16.07)
#2 assumes that isreal's enemies are all 'primitives' that can be punished. What #2 ignores is the fact many of the enemies of the jewish people are influential members of some of the most powerful nations in he world. These are people whose hatred for the am yisroel has no basis in conflict either political or territorial, unlike the palistinians, lebanese or syrians. So if #2 really wants to change the game, to one that isreal can win, then these powerful and increasingly influential enemies in the western nations would also need to be weakened. Clearly, #2 is not suggesting nuking Vermont or London or Berlin. Now you're talking about people who would invent absurd libels and fantasies about the jewish people in order to justify their anti-jewish platform, even when jews were living as second class citizens within their realms. Such people would certainly only gain in influence if the (self-acclaimed) representative of the jewish people were seen to act too harshly against the indigineous people of the region. Now don't get me wrong. These anti-jewish folks may not make such a fuss if another nation acted likewise. However, it is the nature of anti-jewish ideology to find fault with the jewish people (real or imagined) and then use this to lead a campaign against us. So bear in mind that gentile nations aren’t averse to ganging up against one another, for reasons of defending human rights, e.g., Serbia. I know that it is unimaginable that western nations would ever gang up against isreal for such or any other reason. But what happened in Europe and especially in Germany of all places was completely inconceivable. (It is even more inconceivable to me today; b’cos Germans can be very nice people).
6. #2: Right wing tantrums (pt. 2)
abdullah ,   ashkenaz   (10.16.07)
Changing the rules of the game in the manner #2 repeatedly suggests, is simply delusional to reality. The reality is that there is no political solution to the increasingly militant anti-Jewish prejudice in the powerful nations of the world and without this there is no political solution against the ‘barbarians’. The right wing can, naturally, exert its frustrations against the ‘weaklings’ but this would only strengthen the militant anti-Jewish sentiments in the more powerful nations, who are constantly seeking justification to harm jews, with unpredictable consequences. The torah has a simple, logical (even game theoretic optimal) and quite frankly obvious solution, to these problems. It commands am yisroel to focus on repentance as the only means to true self-determination. True baalei tshuvah are remarkably humble and patient, seeking justice and good for am yisroel and all of humanity. With this approach jewish self-determination is not at odds with that of others, but rather in concert. And though the way towards the ‘equilibrium’ might be turbulent, it ultimately gets there. This is the natural result of practicing torah true Judaism and being jewish, according to our sages, rather than frustratedly lashing out at ‘barbaric weaklings’ to oblivion. And most importantly the experience to date has been that it ensures jewish survival, come what may.
7. Israel's dilemma
Daniel ,   Amsterdam NL   (10.16.07)
We need to do everything in out power in order to recover these missed soldier. The best thing we can do is taking aboard some Hizbullah heads and see what happen than. Stop dealing with terrorist
8. Very Delicate Operation
Yakov ,   USA   (10.16.07)
This is a very delicate situation, and hopefully, those at the table have taken the points raised here into account. There's not much info to go on between Arad and increasingly less with the others. If we manage to have continuous and reliable info on the state and condition of the captives, it will be a start. Of course I'd like to see them back home, alive, and in one peace.

10. #4. Too bad you were not available to...
Persian CAT   (10.16.07)
conduct the negotiations. The problem is you are busy watching movies with a super large bucket of popcorn in you laps.
11. #7. Israel is lucky...
Persian CAT   (10.16.07)
guys like you live in the lowlands and not in charge of anything in Israel. If low IQ characters like you keep calling the people who defeated the inept IDF in open and sustained warfare in full view of the world terrorists and warn against "dealing" with them, how the hell to expect to get information about the captured Israeli soldiers. Israel has done everything you mentioned in your post including kidnapping civilians, assassination, collective punishments, using illegal cluster bomb in civilian areas, imprisoning people without charge or UN visits. Do Israel a favor and stay in the lowlands and keep your mouth shut.
12. #10 and #11
(10.16.07)
please do not mention intelligence and your name in one sentence. everything including your opinions and lack of political astutness points to the fact that you are either a complete fool, a completely unaware person or utterly devoid of great intelligence to perform even the mandane acts of analytical thinking. it is astonishing you give yourself such compliments by putting others down. utterly confounding! especially in light of the fact that throughout the majority of your posts you have shown much stupidity, lacvk of knowledge and utter imbecility. do yourself a favor....and to others as well. if you have nothing of value or import to "distribute" except for your pussy cute name, don't bother. you are on an israeli jewish site and we do not take kindly to fools who claim to know it all. you, sir, are devoid of even an infaticimal iq to say the least. your posts are usually nasty and devoid of any knowledge and importance to others. i do believe that the only person capable of listening to your drivel would be yourself facing your own persian mirror. make sure it doesn't crack, though. what a shame idiots fill this space and their ralkbacks posted here. such a shame we have to read what you have to say. i usually skip your talkbacks in favor of other more acute and intelligent ones....you know, those you put down because in your mental state and capacity, you can't even begin to discuss any issue with sobreity and intelligence. i do believe a farsi or iranian site would be more to your level of knowledge, thinking and intelliugence.

alun ,   london uk   (10.16.07)
I don't eat popcorn at the cinema .At the cinema you learn all the truths of life .For example in the film RULES OF ENGAGEMENT [2000] you learn the only way to deal with terrorists and terrorist states is the CHILDERS DOCTRINE as enunciated by Lt col TERRY CHILDERS US MARINE CORPS PLAYED OF COURSE BY MY HERO sAMUEL L.JACKSON which is "waste the motherfuckers" The proof that this is the divine wish is that the first US casualty in Iraq was LT TERRAL CHILDERS MARINE CORPS all the other casualties were unnecessary

# 12 said it the best! Go purrr somewhere else like in your Arabian pit.
15. Arad vs Goldwasser & Regev
Yona Baumel ,   Jerusalem, Israel   (10.17.07)
Arad doesn't have a monopoly on any assets that can bring prisoners home. Even his widow has given up on him.
16. Intelligence
Said ,   London   (10.17.07)
So are all of you suggesting that Israel hasn't committed illegal acts such as kidnapping, assassinations, arrest without habeas corpus etc? Of course it has, under the pretext of self-defence! Just as anything is excusable under the pretext of 'national security' (an ambiguous term than basically gives government free reign in almost everything, including individual rights - Patriot Act anyone?). And #10, if you truly wanted to show how unintelligent someone is, you'd start by showing some intelligence. Your talkbalk was so hilariously ironic, I'm surprised you didn't notice the inherent paradox in writing it. Insulting people doesn't show intelligence: debate does.
17. #16
(10.18.07)
unfortunatelly, debating with stupid people is just that...stupid and a waste of time to boot.
18. 17#
alun ,   london uk   (10.18.07)
you are 100%correct that is why the rabbis advocated destroying amalek completely because you could not debate with them because they had no respect for the truth for example if my religous book told me that the moon was made of swiss cheese you could bring me all the scientific logical proofs you like i would still disagree with you that is why education education education and debate debate debate is not the answer only incineration incineration incineration .Well said number 17 you are not a number you are a name
