Israel's Olmert should lay it on the line with Putin. If Iran is about to enrich uranium to the point where it can produce atomic bombs, Israel will bomb those 30 plus plants, without any equivocation. Putin is simply trying to show US that Russia still has influence and is powerful He has threatened to target Europe's cities with his cruise missiles, fired from long range bombers, etc., nuclear tipped. Our Bush told the US today that if Iran gets nukes, we can expect WW3. I would have added: if one WMD is fired at Israel, Iran will be bombed back to the stone age...every square inch of that despicable, pagan country. Putin moved the world towards total war, when he did not condemn Iran's nuclear efforts more vigorously. This is not a game, and is deadly serious. The world failed to stop Hitler until it was too late. We should have learned a lesson. Do you hear me Jimmy Carter and Pat Buchanan?

Surprise indeed. Putin runs today a major hot-line preparing to answer 15,000 calls from Russians simultaneously. I don't know where they wedge Olmert in the day's schedule. Also I wonder how many Russians (residents of) will ever ask him questions about Iran, Israel and Syria. They simply know nothing and care not. Why discuss Iran's nukes - the haven't got any! Discussing Israel's nukes would be more worthwile.

Russia is no threat to Europe. It is no threat to America. Putin indeed perceives his interest to oppose American policy. Regarding Iran, Putin has complex motivations. Primary among them is money - but also he wishes to avoid Iranian-sponsored terrorism among Russia's Muslims. There is also the irrational nostalgia for Russia as a "great power" as it was in the days of the Soviet Union. But Russia has no interest in seeing a nuclear armed Iran. So Putin is playing a dangerous balancing act - he wants to sell arms & nuclear reactors but with Russian control - This is probably a mistaken strategy - the Iranian regime may be crazy but they're not stupid. They are "playing" the Russians just like they are "playing" the West. As far as Israel is concerned, why should Russia care about our existence? The same essentially goes for the EU. If we exist or not does not threaten any vital interests, not for Russia, not for the EU. And while Bush gives lip-service to our importance, America has far larger interests to protect. Bush may stop Iran but we are only one consideration in his calculation of American interest. The unfortunate conclusion is that our existence is only of great importance to ourselves. You would think this to be self-evident but many Jews do not see the logical implications of this - not in regard to Iran & certainly not in regard to the Palestinian conflict. Realistically, we cannot wait for an Iranian first strike to respond. Only preemptive action is an option. It won't be the end of the world, but it might be the end of OUR world if we don't act.
