1. Hutzpah
David ,   Haifa   (10.22.07)
If there is any group within Israeli society and politics that has views and goals that mirror those of Islamic Jihad, Hamas etc. it is the extreme Right. Every Arab terror act strengthens the settlers' grip on the land beyond the Green Line. This week we remember the act - by a single assassin who acted alone but was raised and nurtured and remains revered by many who share his views but lack his determination - that showed more than any act before how Jewish and Palestinian extremists work towards the same goals.
2. Yossi Beilin exists as a media creation.
Terry ,   Eilat, Israel   (10.22.07)
He represents almost no one - the vast majority of the Israeli public rejects his ideas. But just like Peace Now or the other peace-creeps, they make headlines. Every pronouncement, no matter how bizarre, is given front-page coverage. Would Ynet give a forum to believers of the "Flat-Earth Society"? Would you consider the views of those who believe the pyramids were built by aliens from outer space? Why not get the political views of Hari Krishnas? Are their views all that more irrational than Yossi Beilin? There is certainly no shortage of political groups with crank ideas - on both the right & left. Yet Beilin & his delusional followers & fellow-travelers always make it to the front-page. They are taken seriously by the media in a way other fringe groups are not. Wishful-thinking has become the basis of much of our political discourse. If the media were truly fullfilling it's function, offering rational & realistic criticism of obviously fallacious arguments, Beilin would be an object of ridicule.
3. I urge all Israelis to vote Beilin - he is my favorite Jew
Hassan Nasrallah ,   Beqaa Valley   (10.22.07)
4. capitulation = beilin's strategy for peace. hollow man.
dante ,   uk   (10.22.07)
5. stop Beilin in his tracks by voting National Union.
aaron ,   ra'anana   (10.22.07)
6. Aharon
Aharon   (10.22.07)
Israel is now witnessing a great shift to the right, not to the left. Beilin does have some reasonable points and I do respect his work against religious coercion, but all in all the Israeli left just doesn't understand how to deal with Israeli politics and with the Arabs. The only solution for us is a secular right wing party, and the only real secular right wing party is Yisrael Beiteinu.
7. Beilin's blunders
Sheila ,   Jerusalem Israel   (10.22.07)
Israel has suffered from Beilin's blunders on more thanthe diplomatic front! In 1989 Mr Beilin decided that the national budget for immigration would allow for only 40,000 immigrants from the FSU. When asked "what if there are more as we believe" he answered, so don't let them come!!!!! As a result of Beilin's blunder when over 1,500,000 immigrants came the local governments were overwhelmed and bankrupt. Bravo Beilin
8. #1s Hutzpah... Selective memory loss must be a
Gail ,   Vermont   (10.22.07)
wonderful thing. Who killed more - Oslo, or Islamic Jihad, or the right? Seems the first two are tied at about 2,000. Accomplices to terror are promoted by Israel's media. The LEFT knows that it CANNOT win an election without the ARAB vote, hence the COMBINATION of Islamic Jihad & Leftist terror continues to this day. Yet you messianic Peace lovers, aid and abett murderers, blinded from the blood of our own people - how sad. What Hutzpah, Indeed!
9. To David, #1
Yoni ,   Modiin, Israel   (10.22.07)
You obviously don't like the extreme right, but their views and goals are the exact *opposite* of the Islamic groups you mentioned, and those like them. To put it simply, the extreme right wants Arabs pretty much out of Israel (i.e., the land to the West of the Jordan), and the extreme right wants all Jews out of the same area. Of course, they only go publicly say (to the English-speaking public) that they want the West Bank and Gaza free of Jews. With this last point, Beilin and his ilk see eye-to-eye with them.
10. #1 and article
Gilad ,   London UK   (10.22.07)
Number 1 I partially agree with. While the extreme right and palestinian movements detest each other, nothing has helped the settler movement more than saying "look, we are the front line", which makes people forget the videos of a bunch of settlers throwing rocks at arabs crossing their town... throwing rocks as if they were 15 year old Palestinians boys in 2000. Shameful! No doubt for just mentioning this (and it's not an opinion, it's a fact), people who otherwise I agree with on security issues me will write attacks on me. The calling of soldiers as nazis by some settlers (especially the children, I wonder where they learnt that?) is unreported while Arabs calling IDF a nazi army is considered proof of their intentions. Having said that, I don't trust the intentions of any of the Palestinian leadership whatsoever... however the OSLO accords and further actions were natural. It was obvious to anyone who looks at the history that the core issue was always the Israeli-Palestinian problem. Letters from Nassar to the USA in the 60's were discussing their concerns over the Palestinian population which has no home and was displaced. You can attack my opinion, but those letters are facts. To ignore this and assume that all this came about from fear is, to me, stupid. I'm not saying they havn't, in my view, completely failed to live up to agreements. Many are dead and Hardly anyone believes a treaty will be the end of the death... thats pretty obvious and I'm just as unconfident as the next guy... but to say all this is out of despair is nonsense. 3 years ago Israel was much worse off than today. I'm not forgetting Sderot in this comment, it's just a fact that MOST of Israel has not been hit in 2+ years by Palestinians (in particular in this case) due to the success of the barrier and Shin Bet. Don't misunderstand me to mean this should've always happened even during the height of the intifiada, i'm not saying that. I'm just saying that in reality, this problem needs to be solved sooner or later. Whether you think it's later, or whether you think it's sooner is an opinion of strategy in what you believe will pay off.. but in my view to think it never needs to be resolved and we're acting out of despair is nonsense.
11. Bellin for PM
chaim ,   miami beach usa   (10.22.07)
For the Israeli public to be governed is the same as when there was a split of the 12 tribes of Israel, a Person known as Yerovom Ben Navot who’s claim to fame in the history of the Jewish nation is Chota Umachta at Harbim. Belin proper political position is as the consort of Yellola, PM of all Shadim.
12. Beilin
Sam ,   Canada   (10.22.07)
Peace between Palestinians and Israelis is a matter of finding that plan that both sides can live with even if they don't like it. Beilin's position is too far left of what is acceptable to most Jews but at least he keeps the notion of peace going. Those people who will settle for no less than maximum territory offer a future of war and terror. That may be okay for someone living in Canada and the United States but is that what Palestinians and Israelis really want?
13. I don't see this happening
Yakov ,   USA   (10.22.07)
The man is just plain not it. Firstly, the so called "policies" that he championed got us into the position where there are qassams in the Negev, Hamastan, and now the possibility of dividing Jerusalem. That alone should be why this man should not get the top spot. Also, the person needs to be a Gever, especially in dealing with the Arabs. At the same time, the candidate should have integrity and be charismatic. It doesn't help being PM when you can't get a solid majority to vote for your agendas later on.
14. yussy beilin = #1 POODLE
Mark Slimstein ,   Seibols, USA   (10.22.07)
I'd slap the face of this poodle's parents
15. BEILIEN: EXTREME LEFTIST MOONBAT OR FAR RIGHT ISLAMIST?
YOU DECIDE! ,   WORLD   (10.22.07)
Whatever he is the goals are the same the destruction of Israel
16. #1 OR IS IT DAUD?
David ,   Jerusalem, Israel   (10.22.07)
Congratulations for your incitement. You have learned well from Beilin and Arafat i.e. if you say a lie enough times, people actually start believing it. As to who planned, incited and executed the assasination that you speak of? Look to your left and elements in the intelligence community that participated. The extreme right that you speak of had nothing to do with it.
17. refreshing
Michael ,   Haifa   (10.22.07)
It is the first time that I have read a piece from one of the leading idiots of the Right, prophesying that common-sense will yet prevail.
18. Beilin's just a man in search of the good
D   (10.22.07)
Once again people have mistaken Beilins intentions...he is just a man in search of the good...and he is saying...oh lord please don't let me be misunderstood!
19. Who was winning in 1941?
Ilan   (10.22.07)
They thought it refreshing then too, but ultimately they didn't prevail
20. The author's low opinion of jewish morality
abdullah ,   ashkenaz   (10.22.07)
It is absurd that the author blames Palestinian terrorism for the (possible) isreali concessions. He is either unaware of or underestimates (true) Jewish conscience. If there will be a Palestinian state or any concessions, supported by the Jewish isreali public, it would simply be because of compassion for the rights of the indigenous Palestinians to self-determination. The terrorist attacks, if anything serves only to deny the Palestinians and strengthen those who wish to further dispossess them. It is simple a logic. Isreal is the much stronger side (to say the least), thus such attacks from the Palestinians give isreal a ‘reason’ to dispossess them. Fortunately, Jewish morality transcends this.
21. OUCH!!!! (but true).
Eli   (10.22.07)
Every time someone claims that Israel is a democracy, I cringe. Israel is quickly becoming a fascistic entity. When minority elite like Beilin can push forward unpopular plans, this becomes even more clear. Left wing media, left wing courts, oppressive police, a prime minister with less than a 0% approval rating.
22. Beillin is a joke!
Etoile ,   Montreal CAN   (10.22.07)
He represents an insignificant minority of thugs and rejects that hate anything that has to do with Judaism. It will be amazing if he retains his seat, let alone become the Prime Minister. The only person qualified for this position is Feiglin, a man who is proud of his Judaism. Only Feiglin has strong enough values in order to be Israel's long needed Prime Minister. After seeing this video, you will understand why. http://www.iitvnews.com/media/44/Challenging_Netanyahu/
23. Prime Minister Beilin
Moriah ,   sacramento,USA   (10.22.07)
"By promising cure to terror, leftist leader became Israel's most influential politician" Bwahahahahah HOOOOO, ohmygosh hahahahahahah uhuhuh heeeehooooo. I love a good joke!
24. Uri Elitzur
ussishkin ,   tel Aviv Israel   (10.22.07)
Why don't you just come out with it Elitzur? Instead of you highly oderous - for other readers that means 'bad smell' - portrayal of Beilin admit you don't like him, don't want peace under any circumstances, don't believe in anything the olmert government does and exist in the nether world of sharon, no longer in this wrold and not yet in the next, but one where there is no hope no chance no future. Thanks a bunch!
25. Beilin
Michael ,   Miami   (10.22.07)
to the greatest self-hater go the spoils of appeasement. Beilin and his ilk have no shame. For years they have torn down any pride Israel has and turned Israel into a leftist haven that will lead little by little to Israel's destruction. Throw him out before it is too late.
26. Prime Minister Beilin
ralphsrant1 ,   USA   (10.23.07)
Please I just ate my dinner and I am going to bed soon. Heaven forbid http://ralphsrant1.blogspot.com/
27. No matter whom you vote for, you always get Beilin
Adam ,   Jerusalem, Israel   (10.23.07)
28. Yussuf Beilin for Imam
Ron ,   Tel Aviv   (10.23.07)
The guy is on te way to convert to Islam. He is not the first secular guy who converted to Islam and find happiness.
29. This guy again??
Vince P ,   Chicago   (10.25.07)
I'm a Christian guy in Chicago and even I know what a useless dangerous reckless tool Yossi Beilin is. How anyone can take him seriously is a sign of just how mentally disturbed the people of our time are.
