That grandfather lived to a great old age, too. Smoking is relaxing people tell me. It would not be dangerous for the smoker's health or people who are in the area inhaling smoke secondhand IF the preservatives and additives were removed from the cigarettes and cigars which would result in a shorter shelf life for the products. It is the ADDITIVES that are carcinogenic and dangerous. The tobacco itself is not the culprit.

Smoking may be not the healthiest thing in the world but the fascistic crusade against the ones who smoke is infinitely worse. It truly has taken a maniacal proportion as people are being demonized and persecuted for engaging in an act, the consequences of which are far more benign than those from driving an SUV. I happen to be a non-smoker. I'm not denying that smoking has hrmful effects. But the harm that comes from them should put in the context of everything that we do day by day, as opposed to isolating the act and turning it into a monstrosity without equal. That's fanaticism. Some people enjoy smoking. Others find it inconvenient. But while smokers may cause harm to themselves the adverse effect on others is limited and in no way it approaches that the horrible level we are made to believe by all the amount of the fanatical propaganda unleashed. We breathe god knows what living in polluted cities. But we don't move to a nature preserve as a result. By contrast, making life intolerable for those who choose to smoke, intimidating, humiliating and criminalizing them every step of the way, we destroy the precious balance that makes civilized life enjoyable for everyone. It's a witch hunt.
