1. Israeli Nuclear Weapons an Obstacle to Stability In the ME
Lev Bronstein ,   Moscow, Russia   (11.06.07)
The IAEA should continue to inspect Iran's peaceful nuclear program and ensure that it continues to abide by its obligations under the NPT, but at the same time the IAEA should be addressing Israel’s own rogue nuclear weapons program and demanding that Israel sign the NPT , allow inspections and destroy its existing nuclear arsenal itself or face similar UN sanctions. The world cannot have two standards regarding Nuclear weapons and must also address Israel's rogue WMD program that today threatens to plunge the entire ME into an arms race to develop nuclear weapons to deter against the clear and present danger posed by Israel to the security of the region. The World community cannot have two standards, one for Jewish and Christian states and another for Muslim states and expect to have any credibility, so the pressure and UN sanctions must be applied to all sides if the NPT is to be successful in deterring nuclear proliferation worldwide.
2. The IAEA Is Useless
Dave Levy ,   Burbank. CAUSA   (11.06.07)
Frankly, the top official at the IAEA is a jerk. He just doesn't get it. He has been pro-Iranian from the get go, allowing them to stall, with one excuse after another. The UNSC voted 2 resolutions approving sanctions against Iran., yet Iran is still defiant. Syria's nuclear facility was bombed to his chagrin. He thought the IAEA should have been consulted beforehand. Oh come on!. The UN is nothing more than a debating society, which likes to intimidate small countries, like Israel. When Russia said it would aim nukes at Europe, the UN was silent. It's doing nothing in Darfur. Iran is continuing towards it's goal of destroying Israel someday. Avi is right. When No. Korean was making enriched uranium, where was the IAEA?
3. IF ONLY YOU JACKASSES LISTENED TO IAEA BEFORE THE IRAQ WAR.
Dude ,   Somewhere   (11.06.07)
Iran would have been a PEICE OF CAKE to deal with!!
4. Iran/UN
gary ,   bass lake,ca. usa   (11.06.07)
The UN is a joke! As long as they are seeing over things Iran will bide their time while El Baradei looks the other way!

6. !!!!! I HAVE BEEN SAYING THIS ALL ALONG !!!!!!
David P. ,   Central Coast, USA   (11.06.07)
7. go ahead & attack Iran, Elbaradei is not holding you
Linda ,   US   (11.06.07)
Elbaradei is stating the truth as he knows it and based on many visits and inspections of Iran's nuclear sites. But, as usual, truth always bothers Israel.
8. Shocked! Shocked I am, to learn of this!!
Yonatan ,   Los Angeles   (11.06.07)
9. There are no way to stop this train
Khalil Abo Mohammad ,   Ein Karem, Al Quds   (11.06.07)
With sanctions or without, with war or without .....etc. It is too late to stop this train even USA now is trying living with it but the zionests will keep trying but in VAIN IN SHAA ALLAH.
10. #1 - if Israel has them then it has never used them
redmiike ,   tel aviv and london   (11.06.07)
or even threatened to use them. Even during the 1973 war when it suffered a surprise attack and it appeared at one point that it might be defeated it never threatened a nuclear response. Of course there should be an even playing field but Iran is threatening to attack Israel, so this is hardly a time to ask Israel to surrender any nuclear capabilities that it might have - Mike
11. TOTALLY AGREE WITH #10 REDMIKE. WELL SAID.
Scott   (11.06.07)
12. #1 PLAIN STUPID, NOT ANALOGOUS AT ALL
Scott   (11.06.07)
When Israel comes out and makes the kind of threats that arrive each day from Iran, then maybe you might have a point. The notion of Israel's nukes has kept the peace until now, but once the Iranian crazies get their own capacity - even you in Moscow might be held to ransom too. I'm sure they'll gladly export the technology to your Chechen friends. I'm sure you'll feel a lot better when that happens Lev. :-)
13. just doing his work as theats Ministr; no more, no less
(11.06.07)
14. usa/israel-bomb iran's nuke sites now!
debra ,   usa   (11.06.07)
and destroy the iranian jew hating monster that is president of iran. DO NOT ALLOW ANOTHER HOLOCAUST. BUSH AND OLMERT--STAND UP AND FIGHT FOR THE SAFETY OF TODAY'S JEWS!
15. Of course, 10!
Yeahright   (11.06.07)
"If Israel has them then it has never used them". 1. Leave out that phoney "if" you are pathectically pretending it still to be a secret and in the same sentence already admitting the truth: Israel's got the bomb!!!! 2. Oh, how respnsible of them to never have used them. Something to be grateful that they not have chosen to use it and destroy a whole regio and maybe start a third world war? 3. If they are really not using them and never intending to, where is the deterrent? Why not dismantle it and be done with it if "we're never going to use them, because we're so repsonsible. unlike Iran..."? Wake up! Oh, and last but not least: Give that Russian a bottle of Vodka and send him home instead of letting him play politics with the real ones!!

What daily threats are coming from Iran? surely the threats towards Iran are far worse. Israel daily threatens to bomb Iran. The US has thousands of soldiers stomping around Iraq which neighbours Iran. Israel is trying to force the West into attacking Iran when there is no evidence that Iran is preparing for world hegemony. Also, if Iran does develop a bomb it also has to have a means of delivering a bomb. That it certainly does not have.
17. I told you all so
Obama ,   Washington DC   (11.06.07)
Not only Baradei, anything, anybody associated with UN is under Iran's payroll. Now you know why Iran's economy is a basket case and their terrorism is light years ahead.
18. No! Not Lieberman!
ElBaradei   (11.06.07)
That's a good one. Who the f**k does he think he is?
19. Something rotten in the state of Denver
Samuel Prime ,   Canada   (11.06.07)
I myself had that same suspicion that Lieberman has voiced (for a long while now). Glad to hear him finally coming out with it. In any case, El Baradei is unimportant (as he has been on many other issues). What is important is that Bush will do what's right with Iran before his term is up. I don't agree that sanctions are the way to do it, because they didn't work with Iraq, and don't know that they will be effective in stopping them, or that Russia or China will back it. Does that terrorist Iranian regime understand the language of diplomacy? Or do they abuse it to attain their ambitions? America needs to act and not stall. Diplomacy has already been given too generous a chance---for well over 2 years now. Enough is enough.
20. Did any mohammed ever saved Jews? If not, dont expect now!!
KMR ,   Middle East   (11.06.07)
21. Lieberman; the last one to threaten
observer   (11.06.07)
Nejad said: countries are are now interfering to throw other countries' ruling regimes, so why shouldn't Iran wipe Israel's ruling regime off the political map. Lieberman said: we wouldn't throw the Egyptian into the sea, we would bring the sea to the Egyptians; we would blow up the Egyptian High Dam of Aswan. The only interpretation is that he threatened to nuke Egypt. ElBaradei said: if I am not identifying with the Iranians and consciously working to cooperate with Ahmadinejad, how could else I conduct my work?
22. The rest of the world knew about El Baradei years ago...
Nannette ,   London   (11.06.07)
El Baradei looks after his own... and doesn't care about anything else.

Richard ,   London UK   (11.06.07)
Sanctions didn't work with Iraq - you claim. That's because Iraq didn't have any WMDs to declare!! Everyone has worked that out by now. Iraq was portrayed as some evil country bent on world domination, ready to fire WMDs at a moment's notice. Very few people at the time beleived it and now no one believes it. But the same story is being spun against Iran. Iran has no chance of invading or nuking any other country - and never has. And never will. 'enough is enough' you write. Enough what? Do you want to see more civilian deaths and more US (and possibly British) soldiers die to protect a falsehood spun by politicians?
24. Personal attacks agains IAEA's chief shows...
Persian CAT   (11.06.07)
how low the Jeudo-fascists like Lieberman will stoop to. Israel has failed miserably to goad the US to attack Iran and Israel is powerless to do so itself despite all the saber rattling. Instead the dogs have started barking with their tails between their legs. Iran's nuclear activities are legal and open to international inspections. The world does not believe Israel and its alarmist approach while it is the only country in the ME which is NOT a signatory to the IAEA. The rulers of Zionistan can scream and demonize all they want. No one is talking you guys seriously. Just look at the humiliation that Livni had to face when she went around to "warn" against "Iranian nuclear threat". That is proof that what Israel says to the "world" is irrelevant.
25. Richard: Even BBC admits it
ben Ish   (11.06.07)
http://news.bbc.co.uk/2/hi/middle_east/6108696.stm Do you need the Iranian press release as well??? This gives them the capability to accurately deliver a 700 to 1,000 kg warhead anywhere in Israel. W-87 and W-88 warheads (Trident) weighing only 200-400kg have yields 300-475 kiloton. 700kg EASILY allows for a warhead in the 1-megaton range. (e.g. W-59 used in MinuteMan missiles.) YOU HAVE BEEN DEBUNKED

Richard ,   London UK   (11.06.07)
What does the BBC admit? It's a news agency, it reports news. It's not going to confession. (get with it) So if Iran has missiles does that mean it will fire them? Surely the balance of power is in Israel's and the West favour. Your shrill panic is not being heeded. Iran is building up a deterent. There is no history of Iran being expansionist. Don't worry the West will stand by Israel. It always has. And rightly so. No more war.
27. To Richard (#23)
Samuel Prime ,   Canada   (11.06.07)
Richard, the UN sanctions on Iraq (Resolution 661) were imposed because of Iraq's invasion of Kuwait and to prompt Iraqis to remove Saddam from power (not about WMDs). There was another later resolution (687) requiring destruction of Iraq's WMDs (among other things). At that time Iraq did possess WMDs, right thru the 1990's, at least up to when the UN inspectors were in Iraq in 1998. These inspectors weren't in Iraq selling meatballs. They were destroying WMDs, which did exist in Iraq. The Iraq Survey Group report stated that Saddam did have ambitions to revive his WMD and nuclear weapons programs after sanctions were lifted, and that's what the war is partly about also. I agree that we did not find WMDs in Iraq, but that could be because they were moved, hidden, or destroyed. If the Iraqis destroyed them on their own that's a violation in itself. And if they moved them or are still hidden, then they possessed them (as the WMDs that were found later on but which were sterile). The essential thing is the fact that they did possess them all thru the 90's and had plans to revive them.

here ,   now   (11.06.07)
correct. Israel is trying its damndest to get the US to start a fight with Iran. Perhaps if it wasn't for the disaster that was Iraq then Bush might go for it. But now he is a 'lame duck President' (When wasn't he lame?) so we just have to hold on and hope that he doesn't go for war before he finally goes. The shrill alarm schreaching out from the defunct neocons and from elements in Israel are just that; all noise. No one believes Israel's Iran warnings any more. Does Russia? Nope. Does China? Nope Does the EU Nope? Does the US? Well, perhaps but hasn't the will or capacity to do anything. Not even the Japanese want to get involved. Forget it. Stop stirring up trouble.

Niki ,   usa   (11.07.07)
you say, "Iran's nuclear activities are open to international inspections", well, you're wrong! they are not, we wouldn't be here today, if they were. they have a lot to hide, and they are hiding it dumb ass!!
30. #25 W-87 warhead result many yrs development
blowback ,   London, UK   (11.07.07)
ben ish - your are talking rubbish The W-87 is the result of 40 years development which allowed significant size reduction by the Americans - the Iranian are very unlikely to be able do the same IF they are developing nuclear weapons. The first generation of US weapons weighed 4630kg(Fat Man) and 4000kg (Little Boy). It took fifteen years of extensive testing by the Americans to get the weight of their bombs down to 935kg (B-43 bomb)
