You're correct to point that out, but it's even worse than that. In fact, Arafat founded the PLO in 1964 or 65...prior to the Six Day War and Israel's gaining control of the territories. That fact alone should tell the whole story of what Arafat and the PLO were really aiming at. Unfortunately, the Israelis have allowed that reality to be glossed over, and, by doing so, they handed the Palestinians an invaluable propaganda victory that Israel has yet to recover from.
