1. He needed a bigger bank-on account in heaven. My husband has
Rivkah   (11.12.07)
been in three vehicle accidents from trucks running into him at high speeds from behind and head on. He walked away each time when there was no way he could have survived, except supernaturally. My husband has survived drowning and a bleeding ulcer that caused more than half the blood in his body to be lost before he could get to a hospital. He cashes in on his bank-on account in heaven from mitzvohs when he needs to. This man who died should be studied so people can learn from what he did not do that kept him from surviving.
2. Re #1 - We don't know
Christy ,   Boston, US   (11.12.07)
We can't pretend to know G-d's Mind in terms of why someone dies while another lives. Take Job, for example. Why did all those bad things happen to him? He hadn't sinned. In fact, G-d bragged about how faithful Job was. Job's comforters said Job must have displeased G-d in some way. The diagnosis of Job's comforters was incorrect, even though it was based on scripture & sounded good. Recall that G-d was angry with Job's comforters, not with Job. We shouldn't be like Job's comforters when someone dies or misfortune comes on a person. This man has family & friends that are grieving. They need to know G-d's comfort & healing. We're supposed to comfort the afflicted & the grieving.
3. #1 first-aid

21 in the photo without helmets, in battle field, is that a mitzvah? Herzl died young (44), his three children died tragically young, grandson committed suicide. It looks like Herzl's mitzvots never worked.
4. #2 Christy: Job DID offend God because Job was
Rivkah   (11.12.07)
self righteous instead of being clothed in the righteousness of God. When Job saw himself as God sees him even though God called him his servant, Job said he was vile and he REPENTED in dust and ashes. Compared to God, Job was vile; but his friends were worse. Trying to learn why some people die and others survive is in part a study of the secrets of God that you are not interested in, being only concerned about the dead man's family instead of others who may die because they do not understand the secrets of God.
5. #2 Christy: There is a subtle difference in the way God
Rivkah   (11.13.07)
refers to Job in the beginning and the end of the book. Job is called God's SERVANT in the beginning, indicating Job is not yet a MEMBER or SON in God's family which is necessary for eternity with God instead of separation from God. Many are called, but FEW are chosen. The CHOSEN ones are called children of God. Job was SELECTED or ELECTED or CHOSEN by God when Job repented of his self-righteousness in dust and ashes and saw himself as vile, even though he was the most righteous man on earth at the time. Self-righteousness does not get one into heaven as some sort of earned right. Election by God gets one into heaven. Queen Victoria rejoiced at the letter "M" from the Bible verse, "Not Many noble are chosen." If the verse had said not ANY noble instead of not MANY, she would have been excluded from God's kingdom, being a noblewoman. So the lesson of Job, or at least one of the lessons is that human righteousness is far below God's righteousness. Finding out what God values and considers righteousness is a worthwhile study. The lack of humility in Job and his friends was not pleasing to God. The lack of understanding of Job's friends was not pleasing to God, either. What pleased God was humility and the recognition that there is a vast difference between God's righteousness and man's.
6. #3 observer: Hertzl had a great failing. He did not
Rivkah   (11.13.07)
see that his wife was crazy and destructive and should have been put away and never allowed to see the children who needed a better mother. King David was a man after God's own heart and greatly loved by God, but he reaped the harvest of not paying enough attention to his children, didn't he? Hertzl may not have lived to 44 without his mitzvohs. That was a long life a hundred years ago.
7. #2 Christy: It is SHOCKING to consider that if Job
Rivkah   (11.13.07)
had continued as the most righteous person on earth WITHOUT the afflictions that led him to self judgment, he would not have gone to heaven. He would have been eternally separated from God after death, like the rich young ruler Jesus told to sell what he had and to follow him. God loved Job so much, he did the only thing that could lead Job to repentance, which was to take nearly everything from him. The rich young ruler in the time of Jesus was like Job, perfect in every way except for his self-righteousness. He did not see that only God is truly righteous and only a sinfree person from birth to death could earn his way to heaven. The rich young ruler thought he was sinfree and was self deceived as was Job. Job was luckier than the rich young ruler, in being afflicted because THEN, when Job STILL honored God when Job had nothing, GOD CHOSE JOB. Look at the first chapter of John. They (the elect) are born not of flesh or of blood or of the will of man, BUT OF GOD. They are not elected to God's family because of blood (family connections) or flesh (they want to be elected) or the will of man (someone else wants them to be elected), BUT OF GOD. God chooses. Job was lucky to suffer and he reaction to the suffering won God's heart and favor. There are a lot of self righteous Christians and Jews who will be utterly surprised at their exclusion from heaven, like the rich young ruler. That is scary. Many are called but FEW are CHOSEN.
8. To #2 Christy
James K. ,   Leesville, LA, USA   (11.13.07)
I know you took a lot of flak from some of these talkbacks, but it's true- that we don't know the mind of God. I think that was nice of you to not try to figure out if the person was right or wrong with God.
9. 2 Christy: As a servant, called by God, JOB KNEW ABOUT GOD..
Rivkah   (11.14.07)
but he did not KNOW GOD until after he repented when God revealed Himself to Job. There is a world of difference between knowing ABOUT GOD and KNOWING GOD. The difference is spending an eternity separated from God or an eternity with God. FEW KNOW GOD and are adopted by by as His sons and daughters. Most people KNOW ABOUT GOD. Some know A LOT about God, but do not KNOW GOD.
10. Goodbuy Asaf my friend
Kfir ,   Melbourne   (11.15.07)
I send my condolence to the family. I served with Asaf in the same unit. My deep consolation. I hope the family will stay strong. Grief is a very private thing and everyone is dealing with it different. I salute you Asaf. Kfir.
