1. Wrong Peace Moment
A.Noronha ,   BelĂ©m - Brasil   (11.14.07)
Yes... of course, Arabs peaple is very doubetful or untrue, but, in deep of concerns, is like as Russians, Americans, Frenchs, and other peaples in the world, I regreted, but is all politics same untrue face !
2. Exactly !! This is also the Hudhna, Hamas talking about !!
KMR ,   Middle East   (11.14.07)
3. But... Olmert, Peres, Rice say Abbas wants peace!
Raymond from DC ,   Washington, DC USA   (11.14.07)
I can just imagine the PMO and State Department trying to convince us and themselves that "peace is at hand", that Israel has a "real partner", etc. But many of us believe otherwise, and we at least have experience and history on our sides. Ettinger, following Kadduri, is outlining the normative approach to war and peace set out in the early days of Islam. But some might argue, "That was then, this is now." But is it? Arafat was talking about Hudayabiya only days after signing the Oslo Accords. Hamas or IJ named one of its newest missiles the Khaybar - named for the Jewish tribe in Arabia whose defeat was the inspiration for early Islamic conquest. Hamas never speaks of peace with Israel, only a "hudna". So while I once believed in the idea of a (demilitarized) Palestinian state, I can at least claim that I was young(er) and foolish. What's the excuse of those who ignore reality, beyond the "need to believe"?
4. Yoram to the point you R much better then our corrupt PM
Harry   (11.14.07)
5. Based on this logic ...
Avi ,   U.S.A.   (11.14.07)
Israel should never have made peace with Egypt and Jordan. It should never seek peace with any neighbour (they're all Muslim) and all non-muslim countries neighbouring muslim ones should be on a war footing. They are actually at war but, guess what, they don't know it. Only Mr. Ettinger knows it. You reach your own conclusions ...
6. arab defintion of peace
marcel ,   toronto   (11.14.07)
Its bad for Israel that it is led today by Olmert who does not really believe in the state of israel, who offers concessions without anything in return. When the heat is on, Olmert will fizzle as he did in Lebanon. He is a weakling who is the best friend the arabs have ever had.Peace requires Abbas to make concessions, not israel. Rice has no record of achievement and is trying to make something out of Annapolis at Israel's expense.
7. Excellent Article...
California Bear ,   Berkeley, CA, USA   (11.14.07)
A desperately needed discourse on the shenanigans inherent in negotiations with Muslims due to the examples set by Muhammed in the Qu'ran and ahadith when dealing with militarily superior enemies. It's unfortunate that this indispensable discussion will cause people to start clamoring about racism and bigotry when national security hangs in the balance. I encourage anyone who wishes to read more about the deceptive nature of the "hudna" and negotiations with Muslims to read the "Politically Incorrect Guide to Islam" by Robert Spencer
8. View from US
Robert ,   Chicago   (11.14.07)
The US government make decisions the same way. If it feels that the other party is weak, then it always attack it. If Israel say that it wants to survive, the US will support Israel. But if Rice, or somebody else, thinks that Jews want to leave Israel and they are weak, US government wouldn't support Israel. Currently, Olmert suggested that he does not want to live in Israel, and many of is friends do not want to live there. This is a simple fact that Olmert's children (hence Olmert) tell anyone in US. The rest are small details from the US point of view. We have much more important things to worry.
9. to all
(11.14.07)
i read the book the book discussed here. i also read the book called THE CLOSED CIRCLE by david pryce-jones which is a fantastic write about the arab mind and the arab strategy towards anyone n ot of allah's circle. khadurri's book is a precursor. jones book, in turn, puts the finishing touches in a splendid way to expose the arab way of thinking and mentality, their sense of victimhood and baby antics. i also read FROM TIME IMMEMORIAL by joan peters which exposes the arab great lie regarding palestine, who they are (not refugees by any means) the history of the conflict and the way the jews have been continuously screwed up by a bunch of muslim liars. it is the most historically annotated and researched book in relation to who the "so called palestinians" really are and the lie they perpetuated arpound the world.
10. Good piece
Frank ,   Canada   (11.14.07)
This wrong approach not only creates more war and more terror but it delays all possibility of real peace.
11. Temporary Peace Treaty
Thomas Hagerman ,   Los Angeles USA   (11.14.07)
The modern world with strengthening international law may make a modern treaty more permanent. If you negotiate in good faith you may secure an agreement to a significant consequence to them if they try to breach their agreement.
12. The TRUTH! Hudnas never last, as the Jews of Mecca found out
Nannette ,   London   (11.14.07)
The PA, starting with Arafat, have quoted the Treaty of Hudabiya, which was the ruse Mohammed used when he tricked the Jewish Quraysh of Mecca into thinking there was a peace treaty, but he attacked them and slaughtered them. The same cunning ruse has been used all over Asia and Africa, which are now clamost completely Islamicised.
13. Logical conclusion
Johann Haefliger ,   Sion / Switzerland   (11.14.07)
So the logical conclusion would be: Either get ready for real compromise in form of a binational state, or leave the region, get out of Israel and the occupied territories!
14. called a spade a spade
ygalg   (11.14.07)
15. conflict is not over the size, but rather
fool on the hill   (11.14.07)
"The Palestinian-Israeli conflict is not over the size, but rather, is about the existence of a Jewish State.." And the Palo president and the top negotiator erekat have said TODAY "..the Palestinians will never acknowledge Israel's Jewish identity . . " (jp)http://www.jpost.com/servlet/Satellite?cid=1195036607101&pagename=JPost%2FJPArticle%2FShowFull
16. An excellent analysis ....
Terry ,   Eilat, Israel   (11.14.07)
Finally an article based on solid analysis rather than politically correct nonsense. Another interesting source is a book called, "The Arab Mind" by the late Raphael Patai.
17. You and Khadurri are just partially right
Jonas ,   SAD   (11.14.07)
1) In times of peace, Israel should be retarded state, filled with retarded citizens and led by retarded people NOT to think for the future and arm itself. Also, to develop war technology. History shows us that Jews have an unique sense for self-preservation. Therefor, they will NOT stand idle. Shoa was possible only because Jews didn't believe that something like that can happen in such a scale. NOW they know - in bitter way, they learned the truth. So, they will not stand idle. 2) To try to annihilate Israel would mean to launch a nuclear war - or you think that Israel would not launch its non-existent nukes on all Arab cities? That would not just destroy Israel and the rest of the Arab countries, but the West and, consequently, the East too! Why? Because of markets and economy alliances, and, of course because of nuclear pollution. And to prevent that, West would help Israel - not because they love Jews (no, they don't, mostly), but because they inevitably need to keep their a**es alive. 3) Arabs, like others, are humans, and can be pacified. Few centuries ago, it would be impossible that Christian leader visits mosque, and that any Muslim leader visits Vatican. Today, that is reality. Today, there is even talks of uniting churches (Orthodox and catholic) - which was ALSO impossible some time ago. By the recognition of Israel - the things for Arabs get seriously complicated. VERY complicated. They do not deal anymore with just Israel and play they cards on "apartheid in one state" and "devilish Jews who like to drink the blood of poor Palestinian children" - they are in position of vicious attackers, plane and simple. One state invades other - remember how they played the II Libanon war propaganda? "Israel attacking Lebanon, one state attacks other"? No one EVER said that Lebanon didn't recognize Israel, nor Israel recognized Lebanon! So, whoever pushes Arabs into peace, today, is a wise man, more than we give him credits. :) You will see.
18.  No peace Deal, Ever !!!
patriot ,   chicago, US   (11.14.07)
God gave Israel those victories for a reason. No leader must give away what God has given, it is against God's will. Rabin signed Oslo, Sharon gave back Gaza. Need any more be written ?
19. didn't abbas write a book about Jews being nazis?
Tal   (11.14.07)
isn't he a PLO terrorist? and a vicious antisemite? what business have we talking to such an evil monster?
20. #16

21. to 5 Egypt and jordan are considered heretical
ygalg   (11.14.07)
in Egypt exist the brotherhood of Islam, if they take over the government, they will bring the genuine Islam. that will end the relative peace you so on about. jordan is anti thesis to Islam. it is ruled by monarchy, which is not recognized in Islam. it is not caliphate.
22. #5, Unfortunately, those are the facts.
AK   (11.14.07)
I know that we all desire peace, the problem lies with Musim definition of peace. You cannot wish away the truth.
23. wrong approach
steviet ,   usa   (11.15.07)

24. to 9 only
all palastinians ,   world   (11.15.07)

25. Bush knows Islam better Khadduri could ever hope.
Steve ,   Fla.   (11.15.07)
I've been told that Bush has some of the best minds in the world surrounding and advising him. Bush says "Islam is peace!" Who is Khadduri to contradict this leader of the free world from Crawford, Texas? So what if Bush's father is a Jew-hater and his grandfather helped the Nazis. Does this mean we can't trust the son? So what if his close personal friend, James Baker III once said, "F&@K the Jews, they don't vote for us anyway!" Mr. Bush insists, "The terrorists are traitors to their own faith, trying, in effect, to hijack Islam itself." Who is this Khadduri? Come on you stupid Jews, trust George W. Bush, who loves the Jews. Don't trust this jihadist Khadduri. Mahmoud Abbas, like Bush, is the Jews' best friend. So what if he is calls for jihad against the Jews. So what if he is a Holocaust denier. Who would you rather trust, Americans like Mr. Bush and Dr. Rice or Khadduri?
26. u r 100% right! be PM..we will vote for u

27. Israel should have never made peace
Jabadini ,   Jerusalem, Israel   (11.15.07)
Egypt is allowing Hamas to arm in Gaza, is really doing nothing to stop it. They can shoot refugees trying to cross the border though. Funny huh!! Jordan is meant to be at peace with Israel but last years Jews were stopped at the border and denied entry. There is also a law that Jews may not own land in Jordan. Apart from this reports a few months ago stated that Jordan and Hamas have a close relationship .
28. Khadduri's opinions
Yehuda Erdman ,   London, UK   (11.15.07)
Mr Ettinger quotes Professor Khadduri as though he was the prophet Mohammed incarnate. According to this deeply pessimistic view of Islam and any possibility of peace betwee Israel and her Arab neighbours, I take it nothing short of the conversion of these millions of Muslims to a different religion would satisfy Mr Ettinger? This is a fatalistic approach to history, wheras I for one favour the peace of the brave, as proposed by the late Rabin, King Hussein and Arafat. Maybe Yigal Amir is secretly a Moslim who felt he had to intervene before peace was agreed?
29. To Erdma from London
Ron ,   Tel Aviv   (11.15.07)
You are a very brave man from London.
30. Right on target
Brod ,   USA   (11.15.07)
Yoram Ettinger is right on target on this issue. Westerners need to wake up to know that the peace of Islamist-Jihadists is not the peace that Westerners know. Experts such as Mark A. Gabriel, PhD, Gregory M. Davis, PhD, Walid Shoebat, Ali Sina, Brigitte Gabriel, Oriana Fallaci warned about this in their books. For too long the wolves have fooled, deceived and manipulated the world to their crap. Since 9/11, there is a proliferation of literature on Islamist Jihadism by brilliant experts. There is no excuse for Westerners to be ignorant of the facts. It is not too late for Israel to reverse the train that is speeding to hell. Why would Israel give away its liberated biblical and historic homeland of Judea and Samaria which will only facilitate the peace of Islamist-Jihadists- the destruction of Israel? Israel should defend every inch of its historic homeland no matter what the pressure, lies and manipulations are from the Antisemites and Islamist-Jihadists.
