100 Talkbacks for this article
1. THE PERFECT EXAMPLE OF THIS IS..
Micah ,   The Land   (11.15.07)
What happened to Arutz7, that the Kinneset voted to legalize and the 'Demoncrats' killed it. Hippocrits AAA+++ Everbody left the Demoncrats ' Voice of Piece' alone. I don't know how these guys can look at themselves in the mirror.. Democracy- ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha BS!
2. Talkbackers and their critics
Sam ,   Canada   (11.15.07)
Critics of talkbackers are free to write in with their own opinions. The problem for them is that they like many other people, including the so-called intellectuals, cannot stand to have their opinions challenged. They fall apart. Talkbackers have the guts to risk being challenged.
3. With peace and tranquility comes boredom
Besalel ,   Kew Gardens, NY   (11.15.07)
MK Hasson looks around his country and sees no poverty, no crime, peace with the neighbors, an honest prime minister, love between the religious and secular and therefore, with absolutely nothing else to worry about or try to fix, he turns his attention to us. http://youtube.com/watch?v=sPd6tbomsa0
4. haha
Justin ,   New York   (11.15.07)
You gotta be kidding me about posting this as a serious article.... Man, the talkbalk world?? As if the readers opinions is somehow going to change what is written by the author? Gosh, grow up and write some better journalism
5. if they can't take it then get out of office
Robert Goldman ,   cooper city Florida   (11.15.07)
anyone who can't take a "talkback" without resorting to some insane babble should if they are a 1 public figure, resign, the people that voted you in are telling you what they feel and if you can't listen/read then get out! 2 someone who just did something stupid enough to get written about . well too late dumb ass but then remember what happened to you this time so you don't screw up again 3 Religous Zelot. Hey you are the ones wearing the clothing of the 13th century and smelling like it as well 4 talkbacker. yes I'll take some flak on this but who cares! it's your opnion everyone has one. and everyones stinks! so get over it!!
6. Paint a Bullseye
Robert ,   New Jersey, USA   (11.15.07)
As Rosenfield courageously reports, lefties - unable to control thought and expression - are very uncomfortable with free expression in the form of talkbacks. Might they secretly wish to leave that control to their fellow travelers - Muslim fanatics - who'd manage their censorship for them, assassinating talkbackers with whom they disagree? Just list names and addresses of all talkbackers and see how soon one of them who posted a talkback disagreeable to the Left suffers the fate of Theo van Gogh in Holland, whom jihadist Mohammed Bouyeri assassinated in 2004 for merely posting a drawing offensive to Islam. Islamofascism's MO for solving the problem of ideological opponents is assassination. Sadly, those of the left cannot betray their sympathies for those who deal with opponents swiftly and with deadly force, but be assured, were the Left to ascend to power, it would have a chilling effect on dissent, to say the least! The most benign example of the Left's agenda is the recent failed attempt in the US to resurrect the so-called "Freedom Doctrine" giving equal time to all points of view. Under this doctrine, any media owner would know not to program controversial subjects or personalities for fear of lawsuits. Controversial is a buzzword for "Conservative." By definition, anything sympathetic to the Left is "non-controversial." Thought police of the Left would prefer the more direct methods of Islamofascists but dare not admit it.
7. The thought police rear their ugly heads.
Shiloh ,   Jerusalem, Israel   (11.15.07)
Much of the time, the talkbacks are full of people just being bored. At other times it is our only way to speak, yes, about political issues that we have no other way to express our opinion. When the leftist media censor's, they are giving their opinion. If we had politicians who actually cared for it's own people, the Jews of Israel, then they would not be afraid of the public outrage to their positions. Maybe the lawmakers and politicians are the true ones in need of some good clinical analysis. Kiss democracy goodbye!
8. Why should anyone object to talkbacks?
Terry ,   Eilat, Israel   (11.15.07)
People have a right to express their opinion, publically & unafraid of censorship. Comments can be stupid, insulting, vulgar, even racist - but the vast majority are not. They are simply opinions, not necessarily politically correct, but nonetheless, opinions. We are not obliged in a free society to follow the party line. So why do journalists & politicians complain about talkbacks? Let's start with journalists. Many journalists are frankly speaking not over-qualified for their jobs. Many are beholden to politicians or have a specific agenda. Many have a far-too-high opinion of themselves. How many times do we see articles that make no sense whatsoever? Far too often. And articles that leave out inconvenient facts? Or distort events by using politically correct vocabulary? Or are the result of a friendship with a certain politician? Talkbacks are a reality check. If journalists can't defend their views, they should not be writing. Politicians have a different problem. They try to create a public image. Especially here in Israel where they have been unaccountable for too long, they think too highly of themselves. Often, their speeches make little or no sense. They tend to prevaricate or obscure their actions (or inactions) - & they resent criticism of their abysmal performance. Many would like to pretend to represent majority opinion - and talkbacks contradict that in short order. I like to write talkbacks because I come from a country where freedom of expression was restricted. People in a free country take for granted having an opinion & expressing it publically. Politicians & journalists often deserve ridicule & criticism. If they are so sensitive, the answer is perhaps in higher standards, not censoring talkbacks.
9. Freedom To Talkback
Jakov   (11.15.07)
Talkbacks, especially the way it's done at Ynet, are refreshing. When one goes to other sites, one has to register, put e-mail, and so on. I strongly hope the bill doesn't pass. The freedom of these talkbacks is precious, and deserves to be stay. Even when some of the comments may not be nice, or are way out there, the persons doing the postings has a right to be heard and be able to vent. Keep up the good work, Ynet. You are valuable for the Jewish People
10. The voice of the people will not be silenced!
LEE ,   NY, USA   (11.15.07)
11. Journalists want a monopoly
Baruch ,   Boston, USA   (11.15.07)
Talkbacks are a way to counteract some of the nonsense that many journalists write.
12. talk back
jeremy ,   hula valley kibbutz   (11.15.07)
Here goes. I am Jeremy Vogel I am a talk backer. It is my political and democratic right to talk back and give my opinion just as freely as a reporter or politician. The talk back forum is one of the best ways to share free ideas either for or against. I personally, don't care who knows how much I dislike the left or the so called peace process.... It is most likely the only place that my views can be shared because as we have seen in the past the goverment doesn't really care what the general public thinks or feels as long as they keep their jobs. Don't like my views then don't listen or read what I have to say that is free choice but to try to silence talk backs with laws... then go to hell, for democracy will start to die But hey this is only my opinion, I could be wrong.
13. Necessity of talkbalkers caused by onesided news and opinion
Lemmings Hotline ,   sd usa   (11.15.07)
The right should be equally represented in the media as the left. The leftist media always resents the right for presenting its views, and it eats them up that they have to provide a forum for expressing views which they dont agree with.
14. Micah
Shiloh ,   Jerusalem   (11.15.07)
Arutz 7 for whatever reason is highly censoring talkbacks. They claim to be right wing, I suspect they are nothing more then a front to find out which Jews have the opinion that is radical (in the leftist opinion, one who wants a Jewish Israel) to be included in the great roundup. They smell fishy as hell.
15. #8 Terry, you forgot to mention the PR Guru
Logic ,   Israel   (11.15.07)
The PR Guru most likely hates talkbacks because his job is to control the image of his clients. Talkbacks allow individuals to take the conversation in different directions, which may not be in the interests of his clients.
16. I've got too much money to shutup.
Al   (11.15.07)
I dont own my soul to the company store much unlike most of the sorry excuse of writers for this rag YNET. Poor smucks that they are.
17. Thank you!
Morgan ,   London   (11.15.07)
Too right. The reason many of us talk back is it's an opportunity to state the truth publicly, and because we're so sick of the socialist "alte kakker" clique which controls the (thankfully moribund) mainstream media. The elite hate competition and will do whatever it takes to shut it down: hate crime bills, mandatory registrations, slander.
18. journos are fighting for their jobs & status quo
Rami   (11.15.07)
they hush it up, but in the USA, and I expect in IL too, print media are laying people off left and right as the public seeks alternative means of finding out what's going on. worldnetdaily for example is rarely mentioned by journos, but is one of the most popular, or some months THE most popular news site in the world.
19. Baning talkbacks will just destroy the news agency.
Elchonon ,   Chevron   (11.15.07)
Any news agency or site in general prohibiting talkbacks loses ANY credibility... Furthermore anything written by the writer and the writer in general will be discarded as trash. No matter what views and opinions you hold, the moment you disallow dissent, put you in the dictator chair... Dictators and not popular in a democracy. I for one am not scared of having my identity unmasked, while at times I write what may be unpopular, its innocant if not heated disagreement . To say that you want to ban ANY opposing viewpoints.. Is despicable... this only goes to show the left's limited view of democracy and freedom of expression. I am glad to see that Tommy lapid thinks that anyone disagreeing with him is a bored teenager... Which brings us back to; why if talk backers are merely "bored teenagers" and "reckless" are they proposing laws to ban us? Please, first make a law banning the arsim on Ben yehuda, then make a law banning public urination or at least enforce it... third make a law banning teenagers from taking up 2 bus seats, and a law banning big backpacks on buses and trains.. No, Israel is no democracy... Democracy does not mean that we don’t behead gays or not stoning adulterers... There are many dictatorships and totalitarian states allowing free love and whatnot. The defining point of a democracy as highlighted in the United States is freedom of expression, freedom to congregate, the right to keep and bear arms... Sadly Israel does not seem very interested in this; instead it’s interested in a nanny state. It’s funny how the left paints the right as the ones trying to take over, g-d forbid can they voice dissent! Charge them with sedition... Whether or not the right abides is irrelevant... the prevailing factor is that you want to and sometimes DO use undemocratic tactics all in the name of democracy! Lat I checked, leeches was not considered a good health benefit.
20. Deocracy in Ancient Greece
EM ,   Ra'anana   (11.15.07)
In ancient Greece - the 'foundations" of democracy was a privilege enjoyed only by FREE (as in 'not indentured servant or slave") , MALE (as in 'not women') land or home OWNER (as in RICH). So as I see it...I prefer the "rights" in our modern representative democracy than the elitist society you venerate on one hand (ancient Greece) ...but deounce on the other. And to all you disatisfied, disgruntled tbs...you are enjoying your "rights" via the very same left wing media that you hate.
21. Why censor? It's not free speech -- it's a business.
Shuki   (11.15.07)
This isn't about democracy or freedom of speech... It's about running a business. If Yediot decides tomorrow that the talkbacks are more a hassle than they are worth, or because of the drivel in them that advertisers are shying away, then they are gone instantly. It's really just that simple.
22. #13, naive... It's called pageviews, not equal access.
Shuki   (11.15.07)
Sorry to burst your ideological bubble, but Yediot doesn't give a damn about fair time for all opinions. They are a business. They sell advertising to make profit. The site costs them money. If talkbacks make them more money, you get to air your opinion and feel good about yourself -- if it makes them less money, you get shut off.
23. Intellectuals?????
woww ,   LA   (11.15.07)
Those critics have the audacity to try to ban debating while pretending to be intellectuals? Orwell in practice, the more equals want their own freedom without granting it to anybody else. It woud / could be funny if it was not a serious attempt on their part. What kind of person dares to declare him/herself to be democratic or a humanist that is agains the free exchange of ideas? Maybe it's time for them to wake up and realize how detached they are from the "people" they pretend to represent.
24. I love talkbackers
Norm ,   Great Neck USA   (11.15.07)
Some of these journalists are the most sanctimonious and pompous people who think that they are among the elites. Some of the opinions I have read in Talkback are the truly brillant. A tip of my hat to all of you.
25. Journalists.?!
Gideon Reader ,   USA   (11.15.07)
Oh. I get it now. There is only one opinion allowed and that belongs to a "journalist/reporter", who has gone to a "journalism" school, where he/she has learned to,... well, now that I think about it, they have learned to do absolutely nothing. A Seinfeld-like career with little skill and ALL talk). And THAT Ladies and Gentlemen, qualify them to be experts on EVERYTHING. I dont think so. Their babble merits the basest and most virulent "talkback" possible. If they do not like that, well, let them find honest work where they actually DO something for their daily bread.
26. What could possibly be wrong with talkbacks?
Eliyahu   (11.15.07)
I think it is fascinating that there are politicians whp are bothered by what citizens think. Let's face it, Israel is well onit's way to being a fascist state. The courts are self-governed and exist only to put forward an agenda. The press is one sided and rarely prints retractions. The politicians can turn 180 degrees from what they were elected to do and there are no repercussions. And scariest of all is the new unquestioned trend: the politicizing of the upper echelons of the military.
27. BBC is clear evidence
Truth Hertz ,   UK   (11.15.07)
of the fact that the leftists are afraid of free speech. The BBC does not allow talkback responses to their monopoly views on most subjects. They also tell us that they are completely objective and not biased at all. Believe that and you will believe their news items!
28. MEDIA MANIA
DAVID ,   JUDEA   (11.15.07)
The way the journalists manipulate the facts, twist and influence the news based on their opinions, shows that they do not give a damn about our TB's. So to try and pass a bill restricting this outlet of frustration by some people who are not fooled,by a corrupt non democratic system,is just another step to silence us and feed these power hungry ego's. The total arrogance of the media that creates the news, not reports it ,as is their duty ,will only get worse. The majority of people want to be deceived in what is realy happening and the media play into that,by feeding misinformation on a daily basis. We know we live in a banana republic, hijacked by people who have no regard for the values that sustained us through the centuries. These so-called modern humanists will do anything to force their hedonistic agenda down our throat. So to silence us is only a logical step, fortunaly these people do not know our long history very well. Because no matter what they try, they will not sucseed in the long term. The romans, the greeks, the hellinists and now our own atheist herzelists are just afootnote in our long history.
29. Sometimes talkbacks are more informative than the article
Damir ,   Russia   (11.15.07)
Even journalists aren't free from mistakes. I'd like very much to be able to provide missing bits of data if I feel competent enough (this also to raise my self-appraisal as well :) Sometimes even a Bolivian talks back an article on Bolivian matters. I find it insightful without measure. And thank to censors here on Ynet who sometimes cut my rash words which I otherwise could not revoke after publishing. And also I'm practising in English writing, thank you very much.
30. Talkbackers=Voice of the common man.Killing them ABOMINABLE!
KMR ,   Middle East   (11.15.07)
Those who worried about Talkback are the news makers (& journalists) who doesn't wish to tell the story completely (or twist the words as the case of most journalists do). Indeed some talkback are to be filtered due to their poor language capabilities (as the case of Atilla here in Ynet). Worth noting that one of the reason that failed the Arab world is the suppression of "freedom of expression" of common man for decades. BottomLine:: Talkbacks must continue as-it-is.
Next talkbacks
